  • What size is this…?

    • 13.3-inch, if that's what you mean.

  • Rather odd that it's 2 x 2GB of ram…

    • -1

      it's a 2010 model, also has 3000 graphics rather than 4000

      • The 2010 models were Core 2, and Thunderbolt was not around.

  • +1

must be trying to get rid the old stock
I'm sure DJ can beat that price and will be able to used DJ card to get few months of interest free or even years :-)
    Impulse buyer

  • Was $1698 before the updates happened. I'm strongly considering it and upgrading the hdd to ssd myself.. I prefer the 13" to the 15" and I have 2 firewire 800's hdd that would be useless with the new one… Hmmm this deal or the low end macbook pro 13" for $1349

    • There should be a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter for $30
The higher specced 13" never made sense to me, with no discrete graphics.

      I'd get the new 13" at 10% off - $1189.

CPU is slower, but a newer architecture, GPU is improved, Ram is the same, HDD is going to be replaced anyway.

      • Did they change the architecture at all? There is no mention of it on the site

        • Yes, all Apple laptops were just upgraded from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge. Another benefit with the new model is USB 3.

        • Duplicate.

        • Wow i never noticed the change, kept it under wraps so we all bought retina displays. Thanks mate, will go for the new model with student discount I reckon

      • new model has faster RAM to be politically correct.

  • How do you know this model is 2010. I thought that i7's were in 2011 model.

    • It's the previous Mid-2011 model, the above comment is wrong

  • so guys, is it on earth a good deal or not?

i wish there will be some decent discount for stuff like laptop after 12/7, so i can claim gst on 11/8

    • I don't think it is a good deal compared to the current low-end model MD101X/A with the standard 10% discount.

The difference is 2.8 GHz versus 2.5 (12% faster) with an extra megabyte of L2 cache but Ivy Bridge versus Sandy Bridge is worth something, probably a little less than 10%. So you gain a few percent in speed and a 750GB disk over 500GB. You lose out on faster graphics and USB 3.

  • I am really interested in buying this, however can someone definitely confirm that this is a 2010 or 2011 model?
The link in which it says what laptop it contains says that the macbook is a MD314X/A which I thought was a 2011 model.
Anyone who knows it would be a great help :-)

    • 2010 models were core 2 Cpu's.
2011 models are thunderbolt and i5 and i7 Cpu.

Thunderbolt did not exist in 2010.

There is no way there would still be 2010 stock at DSE.

      • Thanks just noticed the comment above saying the 2010 statement was incorrect.
Guess I may as well buy this one before I do anymore research and get confused again :-)
