    N5105 and N5095 are Jasper Lake CPU's, they include HEVC encode and decode up to 10bit.

    This crushes the 920+ in terms of specs but tends to require a bit of technical knowledge to set things. If you have a little IT experience / confidence get this for sure. If you don't and don't want to spend that much time learning how to set things up then go Synology. Synology has a new model on the way, the 923+ but that still lags behind this in technical specs.

        I don't understand the question, but setting up Docker containers, storage pools and snapshots requires some technical comprehension and time on Qnap.

        The end result is awesome (for this model) but it tends to take time, trial and error to get there.

          @B3: I only have a DS218J so have had a chance to explore those features. My usage is syncing and backing up a few PC folders, backing up phone contents and some plex server use.

      The 923+ does have the better CPU for general tasks, but not for transcoding media. I personally opted for the 920+ (you can find it on ebay with this coupon as well) because I didn't really need the extra horsepower of the TS-464 and wanted the Synology software suite + their support. Another advantage with Synology is their SHR which is easier to work with than RAID 5.

  I have a much older QNAP TS-451-4G which essentially runs "fine" but is on the slower side (esp GUI navigation) - have been thinking of upgrading but unsure whether to go with this or the Synology

  I use Plex but I'm not doing any transcoding (my players are all things like SmartTV's with HEVC decoders built in) and I'm not plugging the HDMI output into anything. I mostly use it for Fileshares, TimeMachine Backups, Plex and run a few containers in ContainerStation

  My TS-451 is running QTS 5.X but still running the old original static volume type - I'd like to upgrade to one of the newer volume types (currently if anything goes wrong it literally takes multiple days to complete the data resync/rebuild) but presume I'd have to export all the data somewhere else, restart from scratch and then bring the data all back - even if I got a new TS-464 I assume I'd have to do the same

  Synology's SHR sounds even more flexible file system wise, but … do I want to go to a completely different OS and would I miss anything on the TS-464

    Do you mean directly on the base hardware or inside a virtual machine running on the NAS?
