  • I thought these were discontinued.

Do not buy a Digital PS5 if you are price sensitive. Physical discs are far cheaper in general.

      Yeah agree.

Agreed. Second hand PS4 disc via EB Games are more likely to go on sale than digital, and eventually PS5 discs too. It's quite rare to see a really good digital sale outside of black friday. Unfortunate that we still seem to pay a high Australian digital "tax" on games.

      • Digital games here are the same price as USA factoring in GST and currency fluctuations, it's not far off at all.

The difference is purchasing power for physical discs is weak here (limited buyer population) with lots of competition (third party stores) so they reduce in price pretty quickly compared to other countries that have sustained purchasers for weeks/months on end. Here game purchases die out soon after launch so they have to discount to move them. Don't really need to do that for digital with no product on shelves to shift.

Wonder if the rumoured external BR drive next year year would work on current digital ones… can't see why they wouldn't (short of Sony being dicks about it…)

      • +1

I was going to comment conjecture on how they'll probably come up with a proprietary port for it, so wouldn't work on original PS5s (like the Memory Stick Duo and PS Vita card crap) but to be fair, they did use standard M.2 SSDs for expansion & USB-C for everything so far so credit where due.

Even assuming the external disc drive does become reality, I'm not sure they'll want to promote the use of discs further. Far higher margins on digital sales unfortunately.

    • The only thing I'd keep in mind with this is it can be economical to go digital if you have a friend/partner who also plays the same type of games you do, and like to always get the new releases rather than wait, then (and pretty much only then) it does become more economical due to game sharing. This is what my partner and I do, and it has saved us quite a bit (obviously would save more if we waited for prices to come down/games to get old),though we did both get disc versions just in case, but haven't had anything come out we didn't both want.

If I had two kids who played PS5, I'd probably opt for digitals also, as it usually takes quite a while for games to come down to half their special launch price, which is where the discs have to be for it to break even with the digital console - not to mention how kids can be with discs.

  • Placed an order a couple of hours.

Had planned to wait next year to get the newer version with the chip and heatsink or whatever that got released in Europe.

So technically may or may not be the discontined version. Don't really care at this point.

Now the struggle to get psvr v 2

    • PlayStation VR2 https://amzn.asia/d/eGAaWnS

      There you go

      • Omg. What a price.

    • +2

Struggle? Pretty sure there's no struggle for PSVR2.

    • There will be absolutely no struggle to get a PSVR2.

    • If youre talking about the 1200 series they are already being sold in Aus

  • Been in stock over 5 hours, first time I've ever seen this on Amazon.

    • Digital edition tho

  • saw it on amazon but also thought there is no point posting DRM-PS5

  • +1

    Rrp isn't a bargain

    • +4

I agree that we should stop PS5 posts now unless they are discounted from RRP

      • +1

When something has been out of stock for so long and is hard to get I still think its worthy of posting.

        • +2

Ps5s are getting posted almost daily and they're staying open to orders for hours or longer. We are long past the time of weeks between stock that sells out in minutes

        • They are increasingly common to find on store shelves these days - I agree it’s time to start winding down on these availability posts.

  • There is also Ragnarok disc bundle available

  • RRP isn't a deal. When will this madness stop?

    • +2

I vote next year. This year has only just about gotten reliable with a lot of people just now getting their PS5. Next year, I think we can stop stock watching them.
