check ow for gaming desktop PCs. quite good if not sold out!!!

    • +4

More like check luketechfast, OW gaming desktops are almost always overpriced, even when on sale.

but aren't brand name pc s better? idk … they have 5800X with 32GB ram with 3070 for $2188 sold out. or with a 3060 for $1888

        • +5

Generally the classic brick and mortar stores offer pretty poor value for money as well as using bad quality (Cooling, noise and upgradeability) OEM components.

Most recent 3070 deal from Techfast I could find with a 5600 and 16gb came in at just $1300 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/723611)

  • +1

Bit slow by today's TN standards, very much a budget option.

  • I don't need one, but very good price imo

  • is this better or Dell S2721D ?

    • +3

Nope. The advantages of this monitor are 1. dirt cheap, 2. 144hz 3. low response time

Disadvantages, worst panel type 'TN', could look quite bad.

      • Thanks for sharing such valuable insight!

        • +1

For gaming you should be aiming for a Dell S2721DGF if you can get it for a good price (often goes to near $400, cheapest $350). It blows both monitors out of the water, but twice the price.

          • @Budju: my usage is mainly for work purpose and a bit of labbing

            • +2

@DevD: Yeah IPS panel is the way to go for that, colours are much nicer for general use. For most people 75hz will be enough for gaming anyway, and the S2721D has free-sync which is more important for gaming than 144hz. I'd prefer the S2721D for gaming over this Acer as well, since I've had an IPS display since 2008 and will never go back to TN, even though TN is supposed to have improved in image quality over the years (TN used to be extremely bad, now just mildly).

    • +2

      This one is TN 144Hz.
      Dell is IPS 75Hz.

      For gaming, this > Dell.
      Else, Dell > this.

What do people think about this monitor? It's a killer price.
Is it any good for budget gaming?

    • for the price you couldnt go wrong…. but what games?

  • +1

    Worth as a secondary monitor?

    • +8

You don't want TN as a secondary monitor since that tends to require you to look off angle. I've had one in the past, TNs are terrible if you're not facing it straight on.

      • +1

I thought they stopped making TN panels…

      • I use a terrible 1680x1050 tn as a second secondary monitor, at an angle, and basically only at the angle of sitting is there no issue, but most people will only be using it sitting down, idk might just be cause that monitor is always terrible from any angle

        • if you orientate it portrait mode and have it where you view the screen from the bottom-up angle, you're gonna cry. But even in any other orientation, it's still not great. Thats why just spend a bit more on a cheap IPS.

  • +2

A decent monitor for those people who play ESPORT type of games, what require high refresh rate, and not so much colour accuracy etc. It's also not a great monitor for viewing content, but if you play CS:GO, APEX, Valorant, LOL, DOTA 2 etc. This is a decent monitor on a very tight budget.

  • Suggest people not look at TN panels. Not in this day and age. VA at a minimum.

  • Any 32 inch for sale at this price?

Owned this unit for a couple of years. Bloody good for the price.

Great deal if you're colourblind. My TN dell looks awesome to me.

    • +2

damn I thought you're being ironic

  • Honestly for gaming I would rather get a 1080p/144hz ips at this price. The better colours, brightness and viewing angles are worth it over the extra resolution imo.

Or better yet spend a bit more for a qhd high refresh ips

  • +1

Damn. Bought this monitor for $399 last year in November. Take my Ozb membership!

    • Should have waited 1 year.

  • its a crazy price, normally qhd 144hz goes for 300+ AUD

  • Out of interest, how does this compare to the 29" that Kogan is offering for $199

      FHD vs QHD

      • Ahh, that makes sense, cheers for that.

    • +2

Different resolution, aspect ratio, panel type and oh completely different refresh rate. There's actually nothing similar about the 2 monitors at all haha.

  • Picked one up, hopefully fits my WFH setup well

Another option to look at is the Dahua 28" 4k. I bought one about 2mths ago for work monitor and a huge step up from my old FHD. No gaming etc. Bright enough for what I do, and no issues. Think I bought mine from Ebay at the time for the same price as mwave have them for at the moment.

can this work for regular home use without gaming eg web video email reading etc or business use

  • Does anyone know which Display Port version this monitor has?

    • I can tell you it's DP1.2 on my KG251Q, not sure about this KG271.

  • How does this go with the Xiaomi 34" $479.20 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739318

    • Instead of the Xiaomi, wait for a deal on the Dell S3422DWG via eBay.

      • Awesome, would you say near chritsmas?

        • They put a code up every month, it's just a question of global stock levels and orders. We tend to get a whole batch drop shipped in the form of said eBay deal.

          • @jasswolf: That's cool the only deal I see is from September this year

  • +1

OZB is funny sometimes, lots of comments disparaging the TN and colour accuracy, but still managed to reach 100 positive votes.

    • Reddit vs real life

  • Purchased it yesterday. Comparing it to an IPS monitor i was using and i cannot see the difference.

I just cant get the display port cable to work with my rx6600XT, which sucks cause i cant get 144hz without it

  • Just FYI the HDMI port on this only supports 70Hz, requires DP for full 144hz
