Got an Unexpected $80 eBay Plus Voucher. Anyone Else Get One?

A month ago there was an eBay Plus deal to sign up for the $49 annual subscription and receive an $80 voucher. I have resisted eBay Plus for a number of years because I didn't see a value in it simply due to my not buying a lot on the platform. So, I resisted this one, too.

Fast-forward a month and there was another eBay Plus deal where signing up for the first year at a discounted rate of only $4.99 also netted you a $20 voucher. "Well," I thought, "eBay has finally managed to dangle an offer I can't refuse. I'm gonna sign up to Plus!" I did, and received my $20 voucher immediately. I then sat back and prepared to enjoy the copious benefits of Plus that eBay promised I'd receive for the next year.

This morning, though, I was totally surprised to find eBay had sent me an $80 voucher to my account. WTF? Me checks CC transactions… Nope, they haven't mistakenly charged me $49. I also looked at the T&Cs of the earlier deal and saw the voucher would be given to you within 10 days of successful payment. I count back to when I signed up - 10 days!

It looks like I've somehow managed a windfall courtesy of eBay, which explains why I was able to snag an awesome deal this morning.

I'm curious if anyone else got the same as well?

I randomly got the $80 voucher too.

Only signed up for $4.99 (targeted deal) and got a $20 voucher instantly.

Yes. Accepted the offer but didn't join at that time.

Then signed up for a year $4.95

  • May they are giving it to wrong users ?

  • Same as your experience, activated the $80 offer and didn't go through with it.

Signed up with the $4.99/year offer, got my $20 voucher and today got an unexpected $80 voucher too.

  • Not sure if you've tried using it yet? I also got the voucher, and even though I was already a plus member it said I had to sign up again to redeem the voucher. Haven't bothered with it as a result, interested to see if folks have had luck redeeming.

Yep signed up with the 4.99 yearly deal and got an $80 voucher.
Bought GOW Ragnarok straight away in case they pull it.

    Bargain of the year!

    • Nice! How much does it cost to upgrade PS4 version to PS5? Will it be cheaper to do it that way or just buy the PS5 version?

      • I believe it's $20

I just bought a digital key which comes with both ps4/ps5 versions

  • im jealous, i havent gotten it.

Good luck to others! For those who did get it, did you receive the oroginal invitation for the $80 and ignored it?

    • yep, accepted the $50 deal, but didn't sign up and pay.

  • Quite a few others have commented simillarly (unexpected vouchers) on the other thread as well.
I’m one of the dumbasses who signed up for the $49 deal but if I were you I would probably use it asap before eBays catches on.

  • When my eBay Plus stopped earlier this year, I'd still get the eBay Plus vouchers in My eBay - but I couldn't redeem them unless I became an active member again.

If you can redeem it then absolutely do so, sounds like free cash!

  • I didn't activate the $80 as I didn't expect to get the membership at the time, but ended up doing the $5 offer a month later to get the $20 instant voucher. Now I regret being too lazy to do that one click!

  • I got it too but I don't know what to buy!

  • Just copying from the other post so people are aware. I got my $80 voucher today. Used it at the Good Guys for click and collect (balance owing of $19). After I had approved payment, the receipt showed I had been charged an extra $35 for postage (instead of C&C) that I had not authorised (so $54 total). eBay live chat were useless and I have had to cancel the order.

    • Can you confirm your card was charged extra?
Most of the times when you use code/ebay Plus delivery, the store reciept will show the full charge even if they was offset by those codes. You will only get charged what you saw at check out.
E.g., pay $30 for a $50 item from BigW ebay with $20 code, free ebay plus delivery.
BigW will send you an invoice saying you were charged $50 + $5 postage.
You are, in fact, only $30 out of pocket.

      • Yeah it took $54 from PayPal/credit card. I always double check the amount prior to payment and it showed as $19 and click and collect. After the payment had processed it said $54 and postage. I've used Good Guys eBay many times in the past and have never had this issue, so it must be some glitch.

        • Weird. I would have thought you couldn’t be charged more that what you see on Paypal checkout.

          • @zonra: Until today I thought the same. I have asked PayPal to explain. I am expecting eBay to try to wiggle out of honouring the voucher once the transaction is cancelled.

            • @Helldog: I've noticed a lot recently that when I checkout on paypal it shows right at the bottom (below the button so you wouldn't actually normally scroll that far down) "the store has requested an authorisation of $x and the final amount charged may differ"

              • @Webber000: Update: I won my PayPal case and had the shipping refunded

i received my $80. I tried to use it today on an item that cost me $54 to score additional black friday cashback with shopback.
When I look at my order details, it did show my order is AUD4 being the shipment. however, my $80 in "my summary" was showed as "redeem"….

Im a lil furious…. it seem like the $80 is one-use, the balance is of $26(80-54) is not "returned" to me. thank you ebay plus, never again.

Redemption. To redeem the Voucher, enter the code displayed in your “My eBay” page, starting with PLHEVY, into the redemption code box during the checkout process. The code cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay offer, coupon or voucher. You can only use the code once during the Validity Period. The code is provided to you as an eBay User and the limitations on its usage apply on that basis even though you may have registered a number of different eBay User IDs.

    • I spent the $80 voucher on a $5 item then realised it is once off voucher unlike Amazon. Ebay says they can't do anything. Anyone else on the same boat?

      • the only thing that you can do is to ask the seller to cancel the order.

Yeah I did too. First time targeted! Woohoo!

Same here - I’d say similar circumstances as OP. Thank you eBay plus for your early Christmas gift.

  • I’ve just spent mine on the new apple tv 4k, hopefully will receive it soon.
249+5(postage) less $80.. $174 for the new apple tv would be a nice christmas present for myself..
