Because you can buy HT subs for a few hundred that will. There's a huge Bose tax on this.

There's little differece with the base module/ without.. returned mine and got the Samsung q930b for 730ish. Huge difference…
Yeah it's definitely not as drastic as other brands with and without. Obviously better with, but not great.
I got both this and the 700, with their matching bars.
I notice significant differences between the two. This can't and doesn't handle volume at all in comparison. Similar sized rooms and I hear this distorting very quickly.
Must be said, both are average anyway. But this struggles even with basic background listening at moderate levels. Especially with anything with deeper notes.
Did you all run the Adapt IQ; once run the program there is a huge difference!

700 bass module never came down to 700 range
Been waiting for years and gave up
Bose seemed to have dropped the ball recently, just overpriced with no quality to match.
Had this with the sound bar 500… Very disappointed ☹️☹️.
