Employee discount is only for employees. Whereas a gift card, is not limited to employees.
Credit card points are different for each person - I've seen deals where the OP clearly states the price of the item with cash + points.

Coles and the discount only applies to $50 cards. I got 15 the other day and used them in one transaction at Good Guys

Good luck finding any more gift cards at Coles. You can also price match this at JB (like they did for HN, etc) and then use any of the other teen/kids gift cards - if you can find any. Otherwise, just grab some ultimate gift cards from woolworths/aldi at 10% off, which is still a steal.
