    • Low stock available in a few Sunshine Coast stores.

There must be low stock in any store in QLD with it. Low stock in the Mackay QLD store. That's the only store that i can see in North QLD or Central QLD with stock. Well the only store any where north of Maroochydore with it.

Actually it turns out there's also low stock in the Fairfield Central store in Townsville QLD. So wow only two stores in the whole of Central and North Queensland that i can find with any stock are in Townsville and Mackay at low stock level.

      • My local Kmart always tells me that low stock actually means no stock, it doesn’t allow for returns or shoplifting.

If you can get one, i'm sure this would be an excellent value speaker.
I have the Anko party speaker with 60W output and lighting, it does a great job with powerful sound and gets quite loud.

Got one of the 60w Party speakers myself when it was $15 clearance. Does a really good job for 15 bucms

I bought one a little while back to give to someone who only needed basic audio.

It's ok for $39 but not great. For the original $99 it is terrible.

It says 2x 10W, plus 30W for the sub. I don't think that is true.
It has a 40W rating on Kmart, 50W in the spec and manual, and 60W on the actual unit…

Even with the bass turned up, it doesn't have a lot of kick.

As a comparison, it draws an average of about 12W in use. An older 20W system I have averages about the same.

I suspect this is actually 2x 5W, and 10W for the sub.

Audio quality is ok. Nothing special and sounds a bit muddy. But pretty useable, albeit not very loud at all. Fine for a single room.

As a comparison, it sounds about half as loud as my Anker Soundcore Motion+, which is 30W. And gives about the same amount of bass.

I assume this is the same sort of trickery they use with subwoofers for vehicles - 40/50/60W quoted(whatever it actually is) is probably peak rather than RMS.

      • it says 40W RMS

        • Yeah but it also says 40W, 50W and 60W so what can you really believe?

      • +2

I suspect it might not even have that much relation to the actual spec!

They are fast and loose with the terms used too - Kmart specs say 40W RMS but RMS is not mentioned anywhere else in the manual or on the unit!

I was too lazy to do anything but measure what it draws from the wall, but the power supply will smooth out any large short peaks.

I have noticed a few things from Kmart where the specs are just flat out wrong. I think they are just publishing whatever the manufacturer says, and not actually doing any QC themselves.

        • I think you are bang on, which is quite surprising considering our consumer laws and the size of Kmart, you would think they wouldn't take the risk.

Then again I doubt any sound engineers are going to bother testing a $100 speaker from kmart either.

            • @wisdomtooth: There is so much more to it than what a free app can provide, but thats why this kind of product is marketed to people like you. If it gets loud enough that's fine, which is exactly the point I am trying to make - no one is going to bother testing something as long as it is "good enough" for the target market, which it evidently is. That doesn't make the information on the box any less misleading.

              • @doobey1231: Of course there's more to audio than power, but wattage is power, just that.

                • @wisdomtooth: Yeah it is, but that still doesn't explain your previous comment.

                  • @doobey1231: The issue at hand is whether it really is 40W RMS. A sound meter gives avg dB; it's probably just a simple average, but — oh well — it's a start. Convert to W and presto! (sound engineers not included)

      Cheers, helpful as.

Agree with all of this. Think I paid $50 or $60 on clearance and remember thinking I'd be disappointed at full price. $40 probably good for a kids room or something

      • Yeah exactly. Fine if you know what you are getting, but certainly not $99 of value for $39.

    • +1

Thank you for the thorough review and post. Saved me $39.

Just picked one up from my local kmart. Wont be disappointed guys for $39. Loud enough for moderate hearing, bass and treble is decent. If you're on the fence, pull the trigger, I'm happy with it and im quite an audiophile myself.

As an audiophile, what would you compare it to?
