      I bought a montery bass last year and promptly sold it its was awful.

      however for $100 bucks…..thats sooo cheap….and for someone who doesnt know any better it may be good enough to see if you want to learn or not.

      Musician/Rocksmith enjoyer here. You'll probably miss out on learning the finer points of technique, but Rocksmith is a pretty decent way to learn tablature and songs. The realtone cable is required for using the program also (there are workarounds but I've found them to be inconsistent)

      I didn't like Rocksmith Plus that much, song selection is pretty woeful. Stick with Rocksmith 2014.

      As for the guitar, Monterey are on the low end of the student guitar ladder. Good enough for those who aren't sure if they want to stick with it. If you like it and want to stick with guitar then prepare to upgrade from this instrument.

        Thanks for the input 🙏. That's pretty much the plan, start with El cheapo gear, see if it sticks, then upgrade eventually.

        And $100 is not too much for entry into that hobby, spent more than that on that lemon of battlefield that we've got.

    I bought an electric guitar and Rocksmith. The guitar is now a decorative piece and used for online dating profile photos which I’ve had more success with than actually producing music. 🤟

    Still essentially zero…

    My son started out with a pack similar to this (not this cheap though). Now plays really well and has a very nice Fender strat. Was able to sell the first one for a reasonable price when he upgraded to Squier and then Fender.

    my son is on a Monterey for the past year and now asking for a Gibson or Fender this Christmas, was thinking of passing his old one to one of the nieces. Boy will he be surprised with another Monterey and a lower model at that… it will be a good gag opening presents.

    will likely give the whole thing to my niece

    I bought one of these guitars earlier this year and it is awful. Does not stay in tune no matter how hard you try. It's now serving duty as a dust collector.

      You're the second one saying they bought a Monterey and it was awful. That's a shame. They use to be ok. Not great. But definitely ok. What you're describing is something that would put a beginner off learning.2

    I've still got my navy blue Monterey Strat clone from over 15 years ago. Still plays nice but I've had to recalibrate the action a bunch of times and it's pretty thrashed from gigging.
