Philips 1000 Series Air Purifier AC1215/70 $182.16 + $10 Delivery ($0 eBay Plus / C&C) @ Bing Lee eBay

230
TOPITUP

I was browsing eBay looking for something to spend my $80 eBay Plus voucher on, and came across this. The headline price is already pretty cheap (cheapest it's been on OzB), and the coupon makes it even better.

    Filter cost?
Edit: $55 carbon, $75 HEPA (RRP?)

    • +4

Can get 3rd party for under 40. (Both carbon and hepa)

      • Do you know how often would you need to replace the filter?

        • Hmmm up to you tbh. The pre filter is quite good (comparing to a sharp i so have); it traps a lot of the bigger dust.

You can also vacuum the hepa filter to further prolong it. I got mine a while back and still going ok with original filter.

          • @mbck: Hi Mbck,

Anywhere in particular you recommend for buying the 3rd party filters?
My Philips 2000 series is overdue for filter replacements.

  • same price at amazon (but return item).
is this really good, better than xiaomi 3H ?

    • After some comparison, I finally went for the Coway Airmega Mighty (was at 277 & Philips at 199)

      • what was the reason? and link plz

        • It was on sale at $277 on Amazon for Black Friday, but it's full price again now. Not sure if it's cheap anywhere else… I nearly bought it but couldn't quite bring myself to spend that much (even on sale). The Coway one is really well reviewed on wirecutter.

        • The Coway is better looking (IMO) and cover larger room size. It has great review on youtube. But its at RRP now so I would get either the Philips or wait.

    • I thought it was $198 at Amazon for the damaged box one? That's still a bit more than this eBay deal.

    • Would like to know as well. How this stacks up vs xiaomi 3h or 4h now

I have both the Phillips AC1215 and Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H:

Philips: pretty good, I could just vacuum clean the filters from time to time and the purifier would still work. So as a result I bought less filters compared to the Xiaomi. This one is smaller too. The cleaned of the air is indicated by colours which I like for simplicity but also dislike for the ambiguity :D I'm hard to please!

The thing I didnt like about it is I could not set a schedule on when it operates. I left it on 24/7 in the kids room. Also did not like the error codes it shows. It is always cryptic and requires checking the manual.

The other thing I didnt like is it broke down a year after warranty. It just made very loud beeps which woke my children up in the middle of the night. I mean if you want to stop working why beep so loud? Anyways the after sales service was ok - they offered some phone numbers to local service centres in Sydney, however it cost me $50 just to have it assessed. Philips then offered a 40% discount on a new unit which I declined. Thought of getting a new one but think I might get Xiaomi instead for cheaper filters.

Xiaomi: Very comparable, but I'm guessing the Xiaomi 4 would be better with ionic features (dad said ionic air filters offer fresh air like after it has rained). Either way I liked the xiaomi 3H more than the Philips, because it was more silent, there was control via App and scheduling (I set it to run only when I am in the room and forgot about it) as well as more precise indication of air quality. It runs IMO more quiet than the Philips at lowest settings.

The downside to the Xiaomi is there is a chip in the filter (might be RFID), and you can't really use a depleted filter any further even if you vacuum clean it.

Probably not a good idea to vacuum clean the filter either way ( I'm not sure if that is how my philips died :( ).

With after sales service, I can't comment but I did purchase off Kogan.

        • xiaomi filters are cheaper but they last a quarter of the time

ie they are actually more expensive, especially if you get aftermarket phillips filters

    • On choice mag testing they are similar but Phillips is easier to use whatever that means

  • Do you even need it?

I have one, works great at:
      - Keeping the air clean and fresh (obviously)
      - Keeping dust to a minimum
      - Helps with my hayfever a lot

      10/10 in my opinion

Those suffering from allergies or living in areas where pollution is high are the only exception anyone else buying this thinking it will keep them safe and healthy is just wasting money. I remember seeing canned oxygen being sold and this is pretty much the same for most people.

        • Yeah… no. We live in an apartment, so we keep this in our bedroom. Smells from the kitchen often creep into the bedroom and this thing absolutely does the job at keeping those smells at bay.

Did I mention the dust reduction? Massive difference compared to not having one.

The hayfever thing is just an added bonus for me, didn't even factor it in when I bought it, but my usage of nasonex this year has been minimal compared to past years.

For those vulnerable to bushfire smoke (looking at you nearly every capital city in Australia), this will also help.

  • out of topic, but i have xiaomi 3H,
it says change filter but i just open the back, pull the filter and clean them with tissue / small vacuum cleaner. lots of dust there.

is that enough? or really need to buy new filter?

    • if you have original filter with RFID, it will still memorize remaining filter life. Cleaning and vacuuming helps extend the life so that it doesn't blow the dirty air back. I am using aftermarket filter without RFID, still working ok. I have 3 of them (2s, 2H and 3H). They shared same filter, so I could keep spares in stock

      • I didn't know about ones without the RFID

  • Why do you have an $80 ebay plus voucher?

  • This air purifier tends to get the F0 error which is quite annoying.

You can make it go away by usually cleaning the filter out and holding down the far right child lock key.

Annoying, but essential to keeping it running. A clogged filter won't be filtering much air at all.

    • i believe that code is specifically for cleaning the pre-filter, if it doesn't go away after cleaning it then you have some other issue

unless your house is excessively dusty then it shouldn't be going off more than once ever month or 2

  • The Philips 2000i model is currently $450 at Amazon and has a $100 cash back rebate for anyone looking for something a little more powerful. From what I can gather the filter needs changing less often as well.

    • The 2000 on choice magazine hit their recommeded list but the 1000 did not. The big win on the 2000 is less filter changes, a best of bread 36 months on HEPA / Charcoal

  • Shows $173 for me with ebay plus voucher ($25 off) PLSEPBC6LT7MFM7M

  • How soon will they post the product?
    3 days without any progress?
I should have received it if I ordered from Amazon.

    • asked the store. Was told they are sourcing this product for me with supplier and expecting to post it mid-December.
Excuse me why put it on sale if you don’t even have stock??

      • That's annoying - mine also hasn't been shipped. I think eBay said it was estimated to arrive by this Thursday.

If I cancel the order I won't get my eBay Plus voucher back, so I guess I just have to wait? Experiences like this really put me off eBay…

      • Update: Sent the store a message through eBay and apparently "stock has been allocated" and my order is "in the queue to dispatch", so it doesn't sound like it's too far away?

        • Ye I ordered hasn't been sent thinking of cancelling

          • @locky2912: Mine has been posted now, was marked as posted yesterday and I can see some scans on the tracking number.
