$100 off First Year Comprehensive Car Insurance + $100 Cashrewards Cashback @ Aust Post (Online Only)

1192

If you don't want to keep paying insurance company the loyalty surcharge, may be it's time to switch to a new insurance co.

Now Australia Post is running a promotion which would take $100 off your first year's premium when you buy Comprehensive Car Insurance online. T&Cs apply

AustPost's promotion period ends 16.59pm 16 Jan 2023, Sydney time.

Make it even more sweet, Cashrewards is running $100 cashback for purchasing car insurance policy from Australia Post at the moment, so you can potentially make more saving on your premium.

My car comprehensive policy is due to renew next month, it's insured by QBE, and AustPost's comprehensive policy is underwritten by QBE too, it just acts as a broker. For me, an old Camry and with no under 25 years old drivers saving me more than $200 than renew with QBE.

But do shop around, compare the quotes from different insurers before deciding whether this deal is really saving for you.

Always check the T&C and PDS before you make a financial decision, there is no harm to do a quote first, as YMMV.

I have the same insured terms for cheaper premium than QBE's

Read the fine print of your policy. I bet it isn't the same.

    • +6

QBE are the insurance providers for Australia Post so I bet they are.

      • +9

Love the reply from Fitz to the Fool.

      • +11

That's not necessarily how it works.

      • +4

That's not how it works. The PDS (and thus, the cover) is very different than the QBE PDS.

QBE simply write the risk and pay the claims.

    • +2

      You're right, it isn't.

  • +1

Interesting not many are now providing rating 1 protection. Or rating one for life.

    • +3

I guess that this day the No Claim Bonus is all built in your age, drive habit profile now.

    • +1

Because it's a prehistoric outdated strategy to retain customers and no longer works.

  • +25

Just did AAMI and Auspost like by like comparison. Even with discount and Cashback, this is roughly $148 costlier than AAMI one. So chose insurance carefully.

    • +9

Interesting. In my case, Auspost is cheaper with cash back and more importantly, the insured value is significant higher than AAMI.
      Definitely worth shopping around.

      • In my case, it's far cheaper with Austpost/QBE than AAMI or NRMA, for an old Camry and with no under 25 year driver.

        • +1

Yeah strange. Seems case by case.
Just a note. When I moved house sometime back and called AAMI to change address, they surprised me with some pro-rated refund.
When asked, they replied the new address is safer for cars and has less risk. So definitely there’s more parameters affecting amount. Worth shopping around.

          • @PopCounty: Almost double the price I was quoted on AAMI.

2021 Tesla Model 3, I guess they are'nt too friendly towards EV.

            • @terroz: I paid $1200 from Auspost for a 2022 Model Y, AAMI quoted $1600 so not necessarily a anti-EV stance - probably other risk factors (age/address/driving history/etc).

Also, one of Tesla’s preferred repairer in Brisbane is a QBE/Auspost repairer too (whereas AAMI doesn’t publish their list and doesn’t even have a choice of repairer. Allegedly tesla won’t supply parts, and the car will end up at a Tesla repaired after a few weeks anyway so possibly a nil issue, just an inconvenience)

            • -3

@terroz: Nah that's just the W@nkerTax that's automatically applied to Tesla owners.

            • @terroz: Model 3 Performance AusPost $4000+ for me v my existing AAMI $1300!

    • I'm with AAMI and checked the online quote with AusPost, it is more than double the premium!!

The $100 discount won't even touch the sides!

  • +3

About the same as budget direct after the 200 deductions in my case

    • It was stated a few months ago in this publication that BudgetDirect don't renew after you make a claim. You then have to answer yes to next insurer "have you ever been refused insurance…". I wouldn't use them personally and I am with Auspost….cheaper premium and much lower excess…happy with my policy 10 months on.

      • +1

ive made a Budget Direct claim and have renewed several times, so perhaps an individual thing. You dont always get the whole story in 'this publication'…

  • I'll put this one in my black book

  • Checked auspost last time I did my renewal, more expensive than nrma, with lower agreed value, or market value only, can't remember which.

  • +2

Lol this is costing me Double of my current insurance

  • +4

Auspost gives a quote of $4,655.49/year and for the same car AAMI gives the quote as $1,496.20 per year.

    • Interesting, wonder if you do a quote via QBE, would it be cheaper than AustPost?

    • what car?

      • 2021 Model 3

        • +1

Just curious did you look into insurance cost before you bought the car?

          • +2

@Poor Ass: tbh..i did not look at insurance.. was just excited to drive an EV. :)

        • Did you check RAC? They were way cheaper for me and also give an EV discount.

        • Same here, they must not want to insure Teslas?

  • +2

why is Australia Post offering car insurance

    • +1

Act as broker to QBE insurance, these policies are underwritten by QBE.

      • +1

        Agents, not brokers.

    • +2

I know, right!? why is Australia Post selling lawn mowers or air fryers in store?

I went in a couple of weeks ago and they were trying to sell me NBN plan!

They should rebrand themselves NOT Post anymore.

      • Australia Post need to make revenue any way they can.

Toasters, Computers, SIM cards, gift cards…Insurance!

      • Maybe they should rebrand as Australia Post-post, since nobody posts anymore

    • +2

Caused they can’t deliver on time .

  • +1

the premium quoted by aupost is kinda ripoff, it doubles what I am paying now.

  • +1

Same car and same access fee, even after $100 dicount and $100 cashback, it is still expensive than my current Huddle. Maybe they are different levels of companies?

    • Huddle was $250 more expensive for me when I checked 2 months ago.

    • What is an access fee?

      Never seen that charge.

  • -8

Premium is $500 more expensive, $400 more after cashback. No deal.

    • The deal is up to $200 off your premium. Not the 'your premium is going to be cheaper' part. Negging is unwarranted IMO.

      • Of course it's warranted when they have jacked up premiums and then give a few dollars off.

In my experience insuring 3-4 vehicles for many years and checking 15-20 insurers each time the cheapest insurance is always one of 4 companies (aus post ain't one of them), the rest are never cheapest. So while different insurers weight different variables differently, many insurers are just fundamentally more expensive.

  • Comes in at the same as current for me with Cashrewards should be 100 cheaper :)

  • Wonder if you cancel current car renewal with Australia Post and sign up again does that count you as a new customer?

    • +1

they probably have a clause in there somewhere about that

I signed up to Aus. Post insurance in Feb this year.

  • is there a limit of how many $100 cashbacks you can get if doing multiple policies?

    • On Cashrewards site it doesn't say one time transaction only, it states that: For each new transaction, return and click through to the store again.

But to be safe, you can always create a new CB account to put through second policy.

      • +1

Already got 2 but good to know

  • Probably still more expensive 😆

  • $200 dearer for me. No deal

    • +2

Scrap that. Was cheaper with the discounts. Ordered and payed for. Thank you

  • +2

mine came out to $349 for comprehensive (with $100 discount). nice

currently with Coles. last year paid $352. this years renewal is asking for $480

    • +1

What do you drive? A 1983 corolla?

      • +1

        2013 Outlander

    • That’s still too expensive for insuring a chihuahua

  • +1

Thanks OP, worked out cheaper and with a significantly higher agreed value compared to AAMI and RACV.

  • $900 with $1000 excess … gave up.

  • Since I bought my car, the market value of it has increased higher than what I paid for it. Won't even let me adjust the agreed value to the amount unpaid as it's apparently 'too low'.

  • Current insurance premium - $470 with Bingle
    AU Post quote - $600
Not worth the hassle in my case

  • wow, mine came out way cheaper even with free windscreen!!

Unfortunately I just renewed mine a few months ago. Any idea how hard it is to cancel a policy?

    • +1

It's easy and they will pro rata refund you the differencenof the remaining fee paid minus days used

      • hey Jayblesz, thanks. If I had half a brain I would have just read my policy, sounds like a $40 cancellation fee. This policy works out heaps cheaper than mine so is interesting. Just reading the fine print but looks good for me!!

      • Is pro rata insurance refund common?

        • Yes, and some companies have cancellation fees, some don't

  • +1

Your postcode and age are the two heaviest weighted items in car insurance quoting (unless you have a bad driving or accident history).

My quote came out to $1150 with 800 excess for a 12500 valued 8 year old car. A bit pricier than what I pay now, but not by much.

Went up 30% when I moved 5 minutes down the road this year.

    • Isn't that crazy. Mine went up moving to Vic, a small safe country town where nobody even locks their doors. I came from a high crime area in WA yet my policy went up around 40%.

I don't understand why mine is so much cheaper with this, even before the 2 discounts. My old policy didn't even have free windscreen

      • Yep… Previous mine was street parking in suss neighbourhood. Now it's garaged in a new house in a good neighbourhood, but classed as high risk by insurers for their own reasons…

  • with discounts it would be $200 cheaper but then the next year if things stay the same would be $150 or so more so I'd have to change again. Might be worth it for some.

  • Am due for renewal and beats the best quote for a non hollard underwritten insurer by a bit over 200 bucks. Great timing.

  • 200 cheaper quote alone. Thank you!

  • +1

Quote came out to be way more then what i pay now even afyer discounts

  • +1

    meh.
quote for me was 1700 after 100 discount, but before CR, yet my renewal from Bingle is 1000.

  • Bad rates for me even with discounts. I've never been able to get a better rate than I have with NRMA in Queensland. Multiple cars and I always compare and it seems to be cheapest time and time again.

  • +1

This is a terrible deal that only serves to highlight what a rip off Australia Post car insurance is!

I can't see them lasting long?

    • I'm now paying less than half of my old insurance…plus it includes a free windscreen unlike my old plan. Seems to vary dramatically

      • Well it's the opposite for me, my current insurance includes windscreen cover and is half the AusPost quote.

        • I used to live in a high car theft area, insurance was wayyyy cheaper there than where I live now in a small safe country town!!

I guess that is the thing with insurance…shop around. For once it worked out well for me

          • @slipperypete: yeah but I don't get why there is such a huge difference between two insurance companies?

it even makes less sense when it happens both ways, i.e half the price then double the price?

Why would AAMI car insurance be the opposite of Australia Post car insurance?

      • Did you check Budget Direct, Coles, AAMI, and Bingle? Always one of those 4 is the cheapest for me.

  • +2

    Quote 1000 for a corolla… lol

    I'm currently paying 600

    • +2

Aus Post hate you, deal with it.

      • Gimme my Cash Back

  • $790 after cash back and $100 off vs $630 with Budget Direct. No idea about policy differences.

  • Don't waste your time. Their quote is at least 20% above bargain hunter quotes. Still much worse off after cashback. Wasted 15 minutes of my life :(

  • For both of my vehicles, still more expensive than Woolies insurance after discount and cashback.

  • +1

Yeah. $40 a month more expensive for me. Won't neg the deal though as it's cheaper for some.

  • QBE INSURANCE is the company that handles all Claims for Australia Post Car Insurance.

They are undoubtably the worst Car Insurer in Australia, and are really, really, really bad quality, compared to (say) AAMI.

You'll be stuck on the road with no-one to help, and then chasing your tail to get your car fixed, for months.

They only have ONE body repair location in Sydney (in Alexandria).

Most people end up having to go to the Insurance Ombudsman to get any sort of help!

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

    Read their crap reviews here:

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/qbe-car-insurance?…

    • From a quick search it looks like they a few others at Silverwater, Castle Hill, Brookvale, Hornsby and Bankstown.

  • Pity I just renewed one with Allianz, would have been a lot cheaper with this deal.

Although: they only offered Market value, which for an old car could be close to zero for them. While in reality it will be hard to find a replacement at the moment.
