    • With delivery?

  • Very mixed reviews on Amazon for this unit compared to the A129 Pro. Does anybody have experience with this model?

  • Doesn't have parking mode?

  • No 60fps option on this?

Just saw this on YouTube. Quite interesting.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3_tE

Basically most dashcams use the same sensors and not much quality difference between cheaper and expensive models.

    • not to choose which one though

    • Yeah this is a great advice video. I watched it before buying my dashcams.

  • apart from taxis and when transporting paying passengers, why would anyone want to record the inside of their own car?

    • +1

Breaks, hijacks? Doesn't happen a lot, I know. But then the rear cam is not really needed either. Becuase it is for a rear hit and run where the unit 1 runs away reversing.

      • +3

rear camera is useful for when people hit you from behind and claim you reversed into them. Or that you braked hard for no reason. Or just so you can review what actually happened.

Mine recorded the P-plater behind me staring at her phone as she hit my car.

        • +1

Unit at the rear is always at fault for following too close any way.

          • @Musiclover: Not necessarily if they claim you reversed into them and it's your word against theirs.

            • @andresampras: Well I guess. But then the front camera will show that anyway. I was talking more of a front camera only vs front + rear. As no one drives with one rear cam anyway.

              • -1

@Musiclover: When you've been in an accident, the more vision you have of the actual accident, the greater your peace of mind.

Not sure what you mean by 'the front camera will show that anyway'….you're assuming that the camera's recorded date/time are proof enough of time of impact, I suppose? I'm not sure about that since you can set those to whatever. The front camera won't actually SHOW anything other than maybe you pulling over. Or if it's a really bad accident, I guess it would record your car reacting to the impact. But for low-level rear accidents, the front camera would generally be useless.

                • +1

@andresampras: I mean that the front camera will show if you are reversing, are stationary or moving forward. So it will not be just conflicting versions (your word against theirs) as you described above.

                  • @Musiclover:

front camera will show if you are reversing, are stationary or moving forward

at what time? How do you find this footage? I doubt this would be sufficient info to prove anything if you needed to.

what happens if someone hits/swipes the rear quarter of your car and continues driving?

Anyway to me, the pair of front + rear cameras make a lot of sense.

                    Let's agree to disagree.

                    • @andresampras: It is actually interesting for me to understand and to have a view from a different angle at the problem. At the moment I am trying to justify a rear camera and think of the possible scenarious where it is absolutely indispensible. And I can not find any. Sure, it is better like that. But it will not make or break your claim or investigation, that's what I am trying to say.

In relation to your question: at the time of a loud "bang" and a sudden stop. And at the claimed time of the accident - which should be the same.

Came in handy for my friend. Could see the driver behind as clear as day looking on his phone before he hit the back of the car

        • Nice one, but it's only handy for police for a bigger fine. Unit at the rear is always at fault for following too close any way.

          • +1

@Musiclover: Its stops him making any excuse lol

I thought rear cam would be good for car park, when a car reverses out next to you and turns too sharp swiping the corner of your rear bumper but you cant see it. You just see the car reverse and turn and a very slight shake in the camera. However that isn't enough to prove that is was the car hitting your car. Hence why some people even install side cams now

When police pull you over, you can point it to them

Not sure about you, but I'm in Australia (not the US)

        • This model is for the US, that's why the camera is in the left hand side

      • Why would you do that? It's not like you are in a country where low level bribing occurs.

        • Could be in the US, I guess, we get a few

          • @mickeyjuiceman: Are you from US and you have bribery for low level traffic stuff? Have never heard of it in Australia.

    • Could be used to fight against a false charge of not wearing a seatbelt/using a mobile phone while driving. It's pretty unlikely that could happen to you, but it has happened.

      • Hm true.

Just wondering if it can also be used against you somehow. Can courts or whatever authorities force you to hand over all dashcam footage?

  • I bought this azdome dashcam last week and it’s very good.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125556942886?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…
It’s available now for $113 after discount of $31 (ebay plus required). You even get a free hardwire kit with this as well which normally goes for around $40.
The only thing I don’t like about this is that it does not have screensaver feature which shows speed or time. This dashcam can not be rotated horizontally for front cam so you have to place it precisely for that but it can be rotated vertically.
There’s one other brand Toguard which has all the features of azdome plus horizontal rotation and screensaver as well but I don’t whether this comes with hardwire kit or not so confirm with seller first.
