good item price, its $24.xx at amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/SanDisk-Ultra-128GB-Drive-SDDDC3-1…
but a bargain needs good total price not just item price…..

so…. sorry to say but Bezoz please match!

  • I want the 256gig to come back down in price

    • was $24 at amazon for many days (but not dual model) how come you missed that

      • +5

the dual was what I am after, its good to backup my phone

        • +2

fair enough. just an idea. get the normal one plus a $3 adapter from aliexpress :)

          • +4

@CyberMurning: you know i have a usb-usbc dongle and never thought of that 🤣

some kind of IT guy I am

  • Is the write speed decent on these?

    • -4

depends on what you plug it into really, but technically should perform up to 10gbs if you plug it into a usb 3.1 port

      • +4

Unfortunately that's not how it works. A 10gbps port doesn't mean every device you plug into it is capable of maxing it out. The best write speed you will get on this particular drive is about ~60MB/s.

    • From the Amazon listing:

      (1) Read speeds up to 150MB/s. Write speed lower and vary by capacity. USB Type-C port with USB 3.1 Gen 1/ USB 3.0 support required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending upon host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB = 1,000,000 bytes.

Not great. You can write at around 60MB/s but on large transfers it will quickly drop to around half that or even lower.

      • Ouchies that pretty darn slow.

Do you know which usbc drives can sustain 60MBs or higher?

        • +5

Unless you need something super compact I would just get a Samsung T5 or T7. That's what I've switched to using after being disappointed by so many flash drives.

          • @VantageXL: Thanks. Good insight. I've been quite happy with the speeds on Sandisk Extreme USB drives, but no USB-C version as far as I can tell. Will keep an eye out.

        • it's reasonable. I have USB C sticks that drop to 5MB/s and go up to 20MB/s. They are sandisk cruzer. I also have a Sandisk Extreme pro USB 2 and it writes up to 170MB/s on large files and drops to 20 to 40 when transferring allot of small files.

          • @AndyC1: Do you know of any fast write usb-c sticks?

            • +1

@dajackal: No. I use a USB-C to USB-A adapter with the Sandisk Extreme pro and I do not get any speed degradation.

  • Any free shipping code?

Got the metal one awhile back and it heats up so much it's like touching the stove top. I guess this plastic one wont conduct heat as much but watch out

    • But if heat traps inside, the drive might die much quicker.

      • It's either you or the drive bro

Also available here at PC Byte for $19
    https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/sandisk-128gb-ultra-dual-drive-g….

Might be worth trying to price match at JB Hi-Fi and use the $10 perks voucher
edit: Got it price matched at JB, only $9 out of pocket for me

    • Is that the $10 one you got for signing up or is it a new one?

    • Great idea, I just did exactly the same. Only $14.99 with delivery.

    • Hmm.. How can you price match at JB Hi-Fi.
I just chat with them and they said " unfortunately we are not able to price match competitor products with limited or restricted quantities" even with pcbyte link and shoppingsquare.

  • It's not even 'that much' cheaper than the usual price of $21

  • $45 on OW. Got one, thanks OP.

I've got both the Sandisk plastic 128gb dual and the metal 256gb dual.
128gb is slower than the 256 (both start fast around 200mBps and then come down - 40mBps on plastic, 50mBps on the 256 sustained). That's USB-C to my intel MBP.
256 gets hotter, but I'm not concerned with heat as they get made redundant on size and dollars before I (generally) see them die, and they dont get used as my only source of data (mostly just large ISO's).
My T5 does sustained 160-200mBps. My Sandisk Extreme Go 64gb's on USB-A do sustained 100+mBps and have been the most impressive USB drives I've owned.

  • With non-USB-C drives, we used to get really small ones which didn't stick out from the USB port.

    I've been searching but can't find a USB-C equivalent :(

This thing sticks out too much and is begging to get snapped when I'm clumsy with my macbook pro.

Anyone found a small USB-C drive?

    • I did some digging around and found this Kingston USB A/USB C Hybrid drive (Type-C USB Drive 128GB Kingston DataTraveler MicroDuo 3C USB Flash Drive Memory Stick Tablet PC MAC Android USB 3.1 100Mb/s), that is one of the shortest ones out there.
Sadly they aren't as short, and the write speeds are trash (15mb/s)
Edit if you need it now, you could pay around $55 AUD (including shipping +3% international transaction fee depending on your debit/credit card), which is still better than Amazon's $65.45:
      https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1708935-REG/kingston_…
Only caveat that it's a purple drive instead of a translucent white one.

and are out of stock on the 128gb variant, (but their price was great compared with amazon's, which is why I linked them here). They're also offering a free shipping deal when you sign up to their newsletter.
Perhaps you could try ordering when they come back in stock on this store, if the price stays the same?

      • Thanks for this. I'd just bought one from China though, which has USB-C on one side, and USB-A on the other.

A mate of mine who fixes electronics explained to me that we'll never get a USB-C which doesn't stick out, because more components are needed on the PCB for USB-C compared with USB-A
