Good deal. The Apple/Google Pay requirement is pretty annoying though.

    • +3

Not sure the Apple / Google Pay refers to just wireless tap payment
If it also counts online purchase / purchase within app and pay by Apple / Google Pay
then it will not be too hard to achieve

Many online shops or payment within app now accept paying via Apple pay / Google pay.
Eg. Chemist warehouse website can pay via google pay

For app payment, probably the easiest way is to pay to your Revolut account
I can confirm that paying (using Apple Pay) to Revolut using Citibank creditcard doesn't count as Cash advance (it does count as cash advance for Westpac credit card)

    • +1

      I wouldn't say so.

Any tap and go payment at any value can be done through Apple Pay. I was surprised when it let me pay for a $2,500 payment without a PIN.

      • It is for the tap and pay, for apple anyway. I can’t speak for google as I dnt have an android phone.
(i believe using the credit card/s stored in the apple wallet to tap and pay, is considered as using Apple Pay)

I have this card under the exact same offer. I’ve used tap and pay for my shoppings at woolies, CWS, etc. I’ve received the cashback in my 2nd statement.

        • Does adding the credit card in apple wallet and pay within app also consider as using Apple Pay?
          https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201239
("How to pay using Apple Pay online or within apps")

          • +1

@littlesoldier: Yes, the apple wallet and app pay is Apple Pay.

Basically if you are using your phone or ipad and have to manually type in your card details, name, expiry etc then it is NOT apple pay.

  • Just signed up and got approved for the Prestige credit card. Wondering if this is better value strictly for churning purposes… Might be too late anyway since I've already been approved.

    • +2

That one has a really high annual fee though…. looking at how many points you get, it isn't really worth more than the $600 offer.

  • +4

$300.3 for annual fee? it's an odds number?

    • +1

      It's $300.^3, not $300.30.

As in it's an Asterix to point 3 at the bottom of the page/conditions.

      • +4

300 to the power of 3? Ouch. $27 mil.

        • +1

It's halved if you spend $48k p.a. though, bargain

        • A Current Affairs special incoming

  • +2

TLDR: You only have to spend it via a digital wallet, you don't have to buy Apple, Samsung or Google products.

To be eligible to receive $600 cashback, you must apply for the Citi Premier Card by 31 January 2023, then spend a minimum of $2,000 on eligible purchases using your new card through Apple Pay or another eligible digital wallet within 90 days from approval. Excludes Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds and Chargebacks. "Another eligible digital wallet" means Samsung Pay or Google Pay. Cashback will be credited to your Account within 16 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. Your Citi Premier Card must remain open and in good standing to receive the cashback. Cashback will reduce the outstanding balance of your Account but will not count towards your next monthly repayment obligation. Please note that if you have a balance transfer you will not be entitled to any interest free days on retail purchases. This means that all spend will be charged interest at the applicable annual percentage rate. This offer is valid until 31 January 2023. Post this advertised date; we reserve the right to continue, withdraw or change the offer at any time without notice.

Can you use Google Pay online?

Wouldn't be a bad way to buy a 2k laptop, and get $450 return!

    • same question as I have mentioned above
if apple pay / google pay include online / app payment then its not too hard to achieve

      • Does it though?

        • Theoretically it does
no matter you pay using "Tap Apple pay" or "Apple pay within app"
Its the same paying via "Apple Pay" in Citi end
But someone might be best to test it out

The best way to find out is do a "apple pay" purchase in app
then do a Live Chat with Citi and ask that transaction is eligible or not
Citi rep can see the transaction merchant and payment facility from their end
and confirm whether such transaction is eligible towards the offer

    • As long as you spend 48k otherwise it's $300 fee

Citibank back at it with the churn and burn offers.

Don't forget to redeem a free credit report when you've "churned and burned" to see the hit your credit rating has taken :-)

    • Does it actually?

      • -2

Applying for lots of credit checks in a short period will lower your credit rating (churning).

Cancelling said credit cards once you've redeemed the joining perk will lower your credit rating again (burning).

        • +2

Seems to go other way round for me , at least that's what commbank says today!

        • +5

This isn’t the case in my experience.

I’m on my 7th card in as many months, and my rating’s still respectable enough to get credit.

I’ve heard in Aus the only things they care about is total available lines of credit, and whether you’ve missed any payments.

          • +1

            @DustyAfternoon: Yep… I've been doing it for years. Doesn't make a difference.

And I check my free credit check too :)

          • @DustyAfternoon: Well my experience begs to differ.

Im looking at my full Equifax credit report breakdown and it explicitly highlights a drop in my credit rating for applying for a new credit card within 12 months of a previous application. That is straight from the horse's mouth.

Sure, you're credit rating might still be respectable, but that's not my point. (Your credit rating can be in the dumps and a bank might still give you a credit card) If you aren't careful your endless list of short term credit applications will raise an eyebrow when a lender is assessing your suitability for a mortgage

            • +5

@qwerty-4321: As long as all the cards are closed when you apply for a mortgage, they won’t care.

            • @qwerty-4321: Just recently applied for the Citi Prestige and my credit score hasn't changed
The new credit card is listed in the report and also added a new credit enquiry entry
but score has remained the same

I believe for mortgage purpose, banks will look at your income / repayment ability rather than credit score (not saying that it doesn't matter, but they wont concern too much if its in acceptable range, let say > 600). So closing credit card accounts before applying mortgage should improve the repayment ability and increase the chance of successful application

            • +2

@qwerty-4321: I've applied for so many credit cards over the years and hasn't affected my credit rating. I got two mortgages in the last 36 months and then refinanced one of them three months ago. None of the applications cared about my credit file and score. All they cared about was my serviceability, my income history and employment stability. The banks couldn't care less if you had 100 credit card applications, as long as they're all or mostly closed when you applycand you've never missed any repayments.

My experience is just like the people replying to you, so just like you, "I beg to differ". I don't understand what you get from invalidating and ignoring other people's experiences, but you might misunderstand how a credit score works. There's more to a credit score than just your credit applications.

            • @qwerty-4321: same here, I was denied this card and was offered to check credit score from Equifax. I applied for 3 cards within 7 months though

            • +1

@qwerty-4321: I would suggest you actually read that yourself!

"cancelling a credit card could hurt your credit score, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will."

And it doesn't. You referenced a blog post by some hack finance journo wannabe who literally doesn't know how credit agencies work and she's just making rough assumptions.

        • +2

It actually isn't as bad as you make out.
I've been taking out a new card every month and provided the previous card is cancelled my credit rating stays pretty consistent.

Also credit isn't the be all and end all they make it out to be, not like America.

        • Incorrect. The enquiry will lower your score, but closing a credit card with which you've had good repayments on (no late or missed payments) increases your score.

    • +3

Meh. It isn't a major hit and you get free money.

I have never been rejected for a loan or a credit card, so my credit score is pretty meaningless anyway.

  • +5

After you got the cashback, you can close the card and get refund for the annual fee on pro-rata basis.

    • Is that how it works? I've recently churned another Citi card that had a $49 annual fee. Do you have to specifically request for a pro-rata refund to get it?

      • I don't think you need request for that. Just mention this to the customer agent when you close your account.

  • I applied for this credit card just three weeks ago and haven't yet used it. At the time of my application, Apple Pay was only accepted way to get that $600 cashback, anyone knowns if Google Pay is an acceptable way for my situation?

    • might have to message them

    • This is an ongoing deal, I got this card 6 months ago and used Google pay, and I got my cash back at promised. Loved it.

      • @Buff how long did it take to get cash back after reaching threshold? Also, can I pay off the CC early and still get it?

        • 90 days.

  • What CRB do they conduct the credit check through?

  • Got rejected for the prestige the other day. How long should i wait before applying for this one?

    • 3 months is the industry standard.

    • I got rejected. Sent them an email to reasses my application. Got approved straight away.

      • +1

        which email address ?

          • @XedeX: Thanks. Sent an email too. How long does it take them to response?

            • @PeppaCat: They are slow. You m8ght wanna give them a follow up call with your application number.

  • +3

I currently have this card and have received the cashback. Can I can and then reapply again considering there is no exclusion period? Not sure what are the chances of approval given I will be cancelling and reapplying in a matter of days.

    • I asked the representative and they said you can still apply but if it's similar to the offer of your previous card, you won't be able to participate in the offer. Didn't say what the timeline was though but i did ask if the application would be affected if I had this card previously and cancelled within the last 12 months.

  • I don't spend much money in store, literally everything I buy is online so unless I can use this online it's not worth it

    • +1

Buy 4 * $500 Only One Visa GCs from Woolworths and then use them to pay rego, utility bills, insurance, council rates etc at Post Office. You can also use them online to pay the bills, insurance, any other online purchase which is within $500. Note there is about $8 card activation fee for each $500 of GC you buy or may be wait for some good GC deals at Coles/WW if you don't want to pay the extra $8 per $500 GC

      • Yeah, I don't buy those cards simply because they have $8 fees
Screw them! Then they change fees to the retailers or shops.

  • +1

I've been meaning to buy my wife an iMac so this might work well.

  • Hey mate, what's cooldown period? Like a cooling off period?

    • +3

Cooldown period as in the amount of time you have to wait between closing a card from Citibank and opening a new one, most banks will stipulate a 12 month gap.

  • is there a salary requirement for this card? also does it include citibank payall service? would love to use that

    • Since the minimum credit is $10K so i guess around $50-60K annual salary.

For Payall, have you click the deal and check the benefits with this card?

  • Ah good - priority pass is back.

I'm still fee-free for life on this card — from the days of Citibank Signature fee-free deals being promoted here.

    • Same. Have had mine since 2013.

  • Citibank website doesn't mention Google Pay is accepted, just Apple Pay. Anybody paid with Google Pay and got the cashback?

    • We just rang them and they confirmed Google pay is fine.

    • Yes I have it works on this deal.

    • Its in the t's and c's ;)

  • I recently got a NAB Rewards Platinum credit card, giving me 60,000 points when spending 1,000 in the first 60 days. This is equivalent to ~$300.

Once I get the points, will jump onto another one. LOL

    https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/nab-rewards-car…

    • -2

Your credit score must look lovely with all that churning.

      • +1

        Not bad 800< 😁

  • So to be clear about this point: "if you spend $48,000 on eligible purchases or cash advances in the previous year"

it will be $150 first year fee, and if i meet the $2000 spend in 90 days, and cancel by say 11 months, i'm not going to need to meet this huge $48k spend target?

    • Cancel before 2 months, pro rata $150.

      Cancel after 12 months, $150 + pro rata $300.

      Forget the $48k.

  • +2

I applied so many credit cards through Ozbargain deal, I was rejected on my recent application. The message from Citibank was "high number of credit applications" in the recent year

    • +1

How many had you applied for?

Your credit score may be affected.

      • 7-8 since January, but that includes StepPay, Latitude and Zip etc, which are not plastic cards

        • :O thats a lot of applications…

          • @nightfever: Still a credit hit, nearly one a month.

It will take a while to get your credit up, I would do a credit check if I was you.

            I don't flip much, even if I was it'd be 2-3 max a year.

            7-8 a year, you're screwed.

            • +3

              @[Deactivated]: Not true. I do 7-8 a year and have 808 and 785 score

              • -1

@blingdaddyking: You do, until you don't mate.

Once it hits, and it's reviewed…you'll be in the tank.

Imagine someone wanting to loan you money, checks and you have turned 20 Credit Cards in 24-36 months. Good luck with that! LOL

You could be a high earner? You could own no properties, or own many! There is so many factors, but either way it never looks good.

My bank, they cry over a single credit card limit. If they saw I turned over 5 CC a year, I'd never get a loan and my credit score must be perfect.

                • @[Deactivated]:

they cry over a single credit card limit

Yeah, that’s debt you could go out and incur tomorrow. If you have a line of credit you can max out, for their calculations you may as well have.

Provided you’ve repaid debts on time, they DGAF how many cards you’ve churned.

                  • @DustyAfternoon: Isn't a credit hit only once you've been sent notice for late payment?

I've never understood how people get it so bad.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, my understanding is, so long as everything’s paid on time, you’ll stay creditworthy.

The model for credit card companies is to tempt you into more debt you can repay, so they can rack up the fees and high interest. It’s inevitable some people will fall over the edge entirely and miss payments.

              • @blingdaddyking: My score is close to 800 but Citi still rejected it.

              • @blingdaddyking: Did you check Equifax credit score. It is way less than the Experian score for me.

Looks like exqifax has messed up with the scores in the US

                https://www.wsj.com/articles/equifax-sent-lenders-inaccurate…

  • It would be good if you need to buy something in-store, even JB hi-fi.

You can just pay 2k, and you'll get $600 back.

It's a pretty solid deal, well the $450.

Just have to hope for a sale and in-store availability etc

    • Use it to buy discounted gift cards at woolies or coles!! Then double dip! :D

      • If they're available

  • a silly question,
is google wallet and google pay the same?

  • If shop online and let google to fill in the cerdit card details for me by entering the "CVC".
Will this consider as an eligible purchase via google pay/wallet?

or I have to use the app (google wallet) on my phone? that's mean I have to shop in store.

  • +1

Since when did Citi Australia support Google Pay? For years they've absurdly only supported Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Their Mobile Wallet webpage still doesn't list Google Pay - though clearly they've now got more updated webpages on the topic.

Is this support a consequence of the NAB accruing them?

    • +1

Yep - we found Google Pay worked soon after the NAB acquisition. Their website is not keeping up.

Priority pass coming back again was news to me too.

  • Any inputs around their minimum annual income requirement for this card?

    • +1

      I think it’s 75k annual income.
