What Christmas Presents Would You Get for Those Who Have Everything?

Edit: Ok. Gifts sorted. Thanks all (most of you)

If I can be bothered, I’ll update the post after Christmas

Not a humble brag post.

My sibling and their partner have a combined income > 500k
My partner and I are not as wealthy, but are pretty comfortable.

All of us have everything we need, and excluding a spontaneous Ferrari, we can all buy the day to day things we want (dinners, phones, cameras, bags)

I'm sorry if this sounds like a d*ck post in the current economic climate, i'm just really stuck what to buy because i'm trying to limit the meaningless exchange of things. Last year - with time and planning- I bought some pretty cool things <$500 for both. I just don't have that time/energy now.

Any suggestions for nice gifts in the $250 realm?
Please don't suggest sponsoring a child - I already do
Please don't suggest coming empty handed - I won't do that

Thanks

Can add a movie or box set if he doesn’t know who Naruto is.

  • I'd probably consider getting an amazon gift card for the value that you want to gift? Or perhaps something like one of those other gift cards that could be used in several stores like Jb, bunnings, and the like. Couldn't go wrong with it as you could gift them to an amount you deem appropriate, and they get to choose what they want to buy with it.

Funniest thing I’ve heard all year

  • Not always the case but fairly common that people on high incomes "with everything" are lacking only one thing: free time… and maybe perspective.

Find something that gives them back free time (I e. kids off their hands for a night of they have them) or some sort of experience helping poor/disabled etc that will deepen their gratitude for their fortunate position.

  • Lol. We literally live in a society where many of us (over the age of 30) have so much disposable income, it’s really difficult to find something to buy us that we don’t already have.

    • It’s a great problem to have, that’s for sure

  • If they're a couple earning >500k what they probably don't have a lot of is time (assuming its not one partner earning 495k and the spouse earning 5k selling cricut decorated wineglasses on etsy)

Is there something you can buy them that will gift them back time? Get a local gardener to mow their lawn once a month?

like you're earning 500k and u still mow your own lawns

Subscription boxes? You can get alcoholic ones, foodie boxes, book boxes…

I used to get the Goodness Me box they mention, but found I was eating everything in the first couple of days.

  • Sunglasses for driving , Some high quality pen, laptop backpack

  • Whack

  • If either of them is into crafts (or could be), a Cricut Joy is a great gadget my wife got herself recently… followed by a Maker 3. You will then have a good option for future presents - stuff for the Cricut. It is a real money pit, though genuinely fun as well.

There are other money pit hobbies, many of which come up here reasonably often (home automation, Lego “for adults”, video games, 3D printing, rechargeable battery collecting etc.), which you could give them a taste for and have present ideas for the future.

If you don’t want to ruin their future finances, a meal at a nice restaurant could be good? You could even suggest you take each other’s family and split the bill at the end.

  • Charity gifts? If they don't need anything, give something to less fortunate ones on their behalf.

  • how about:
    Pincinox Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs
    binoculars
    blunt umbrellas
alternatively suggest they join islam, judaism, buddhism or the hare krishnas and skip christmas altogether.

  • An experience, concert tickets, tickets to an event, dinner at their favourite restaurant, a spa session, a staycation or weekend stay.

  • Jewellery in 18ct or a nice painting,
Steinway Pianos go up in value every year ,
    or ,
    a nice pair of rolex's ,
If that's too much money to spend maybe a gag gift.
Name a star or a donation has been given in your name to the Tony Abbott re-election fund ?

One option is to give them an experience rather than a physical item. For example, you could buy tickets to a play or concert that they would enjoy, or book a trip to a destination they have always wanted to visit. Another option is to give them a charitable donation in their name. This allows them to support a cause they care about while also showing them that you are thinking of them. You could also try giving them a unique or personalized gift, such as a custom piece of art or a family heirloom.

  • Storage boxes 📦

  • Another horse/house/jet/yacht? Can you ever have too many?

  • Gift basket is my go to.

But it also depends if they are foodies or like cooking.

What about buying them a tickets for a family friend event? Like immersive art?

    Mixed box of wines

  • Get nothing. My family are all fine for stuff so we are doing a KK with a $50 cap and gift needs to be second hand. Everyone will get one present. The best bit is we can focus on the eating, drinking and merriment!

  • Cleaners are always needed.
Or perhaps hire someone to do various of novelty tasks, inspired from this notorious post :)

buy them experience. some they would not buy or try for them self.

  • +1

For people who have all the money in the world its about giving them something that shows you know them. Something they like, not just something of expense.

Try searching Redbubble for some art or designs that appeal to them, a well thoughtful unique gift is something i think suits your situation.

    A family weekend getaway!

Book a Holiday House that sleeps everyone in your family comfortably, and surprise them with that.

Then you can make memories, and its not some crappy gift that will collect dust then get chucked away.

(Or, an old film camera can be pretty cool! For some, it can lead into a hobby, and it takes fun photos that you just can't get on a phone camera!)

  • If they have everything get them nothing, nothing is something they don't have.

  • You may already give to charity, but this doesn't prevent you from giving more, or making a proportionate difference from giving more. It sounds like they don't need much. So instead of scrounging around to find an idea about buying for people who need nothing, you could consider giving to charity on their behalf, getting resources to people who clearly do need it.

Is there something from your childhood that could bring back some incredible nostalgic feelings? It could be a toy, board/video game etc.

Something like that can hit in a very very different way.

If there is something personal to you two, no one can beat that gift.

    • That’s a really helpful thought. Thank you

    Eneloops

  • We've started doing donations to charities that we think will mean something for the other person. E.g. my animal loving brother gets a donation on his behalf to RSPCA. We're in a similar situation to your family, but we've discussed this prior. No kids in the picture though.

  • Face on a cookie. You can upload a photo and they will send you out a cookie with their face on it. Someone at my work got this and I thought it was amusing.
