[Kogan First] Fortis 18" Kid's Mountain Bike $24.99 + Delivery, USB Condenser Mic Kit $18.99 Delivered @ Kogan

150

First up is the

$24.99 ($29.99 non Kogan First members) Kogan Fortis 18" Kid's Mountain Bike

$1 cheaper than the last all time low. Yes it's cheaper than someone's road bike cable and no you won't win Tour de France riding this but that's not the point. Reset your expectations for a sub $25 bike and I think this is an awesome deal. Compared to a $50-$100 Kmart/Big W bike it probably holds up fairly well too. Pretty sure it's better than my kid's Spiderman bikes that I paid triple the price for. Anyway you be the judge, its great for people who are strapped for cash at Christmas time. Most likely not suitable for those with high yield investments in European luxury cars.

Built with thick tyres, a lightweight and robust aluminium alloy frame and a comfortable padded seat, this kids mountain bike is just as comfortable on road or off, and is perfect for outdoor adventures.

18” Frame for kids 120 – 145cm tall
Recommended for 5 – 9 year olds
Lightweight aluminium frame
Front, rear and side reflectors
Anti-slip handle bar with palm protector
Adjustable seat height
Cushioned frame guard
Front and rear brakes
Includes bell

Next is a

Kogan USB Condenser Microphone with Pop Filter and stand for only $18.99 with free shipping for Kogan First members

I came across this myself and bought one for my WFH setup as I want to try video conferencing without wearing my headset all the time. Was the cheapest setup I found as others typically cost 20% more. I personally had to install an EQ app to get the volume levels up and now it works perfectly. No need for phantom power or anything else. Guide I used here https://youtu.be/lsoa9AghUUk

The kids bike is an environmental disaster. The quality of bike provided by Kogan, Kmart and Big W is so low they are commonly referred to as Bike Shaped Objects. It will quickly break and become unrideable. You’re much better off paying a bit extra for a second hand bike.

Source: 3 years volunteering in a community bike shed that routinely scraps these bikes because they’re unservicable.

    • What do you recommend for a seven year old? Looking for light weight under $100

Very much depends on height and weight. My kids had a few KMart, Big W, Target bikes and they were rubbish. Moved up to a giant and it has been light and day in difference. Plus, you can resell.

Have a look on Gumtree or Facebook marketplace, lots of outgrown kids bikes there. There are always lots of Byk ones which are good quality and have good geometry for a kid. The E-350 with 18” wheels might be good. My 6-yr old is riding a second hand Liv Enchant with 20” wheels at the moment- has a 3-speed gear too. Very good and I think I picked it up for about $100-120.

Kids don’t really mind if there are some minor scratches or wear and tear on the bike. Just give it a real good wash when you get it, oil the chain and adjust for your kid. They will love it.

And you know what, I think we should all be teaching our kids to reuse and recycle things. A second hand bike is a good example.

What types of things break in these bikes?
I would've thought kids would outgrow them before they break?

Circa $35 delivered for a bike is pretty cheap.

      • A few things may go wrong quite quickly:
Wheels get out of true because they are poorly built; wheels stop turning easily because bearings/hub are cheap and/or rust very easily; brakes start sticking so they don’t retract when pressure is taken off brake lever; poor quality rubber perishes after a few light skids; gears don’t shift due to poor setup.

Agree. Cheap Chinese junk. But I must say, I just bought a couple of 18” of mtb tyres yesterday for my kids Byk. Cost $45. I could have bought this bike for half the price, kept the tyres and chucked the bike out.

Insane how cheap this stuff is. I can’t believe aluminium had to be dug up, smelted, formed, then steel parts, bolts, plastics made up and all assembled, painted, stickers put on, shipped across the world for $25. The environmental impact of it could quantify it, is probably ten times that.

Thanks for your insight. So people please don't import this rubbish into Australia just to end up in the landfill.

this complies with Australian Safety Standards
    …a $25 Bicycle for Kids.
let that sink in for a moment……

    • Plus $13 shipping fees for me

Why because it doesn't have air bags?

    • Yes, it is cheap for a kids bike but we bought too many and we're taking this opportunity to get rid of some stock :)

        Please stop sourcing junk!

100W Driverless LED Flood Light is on sale too, I bought one last night.

  • Why did i read it as Bogan Fortis -_-

As others have said, this bike wont be amazing, however after owning plenty of kids bikes (we have three boths until 11), i think this age/size doesnt matter re: quality as much as as they get older/more adventurous. I think its important to get them something good when they are learning, then you can get whatever when they are 6-9 when they are just riding on bike paths at a slow pace but thats just my opinion. Cant go wrong for $35 delivered - you will be able to get at least $20 back when you sell it!
