    Just signup where do I add the code.

  • related to uber?

      “Our journey so far

      2022
      We were acquired by Uber and rebranded to Uber Carshare.”

      • +5

        the dream of every startup is to be bought out by a bigger competitor

        • hopefully for cash and not uber stock

  • +1

    Credit expiry?

    • +2

      the $200 credit is valid for 30 days

      • +1

        I can only add promo code at checkout. it does not show up on my account

  • +4

    To be eligible, individuals must during the Promotional Period:
    (a) visit www.ubercarshare.com.au (“the Website”) or the Uber Carshare App;
    (b) meet the member eligibility criteria;
    (c) follow the prompts to apply for membership;
    (d) agree to have their identification verified and credit history checked;
    (e) apply the promo code provided when requested;
    […]

    If you're planning on using the service anyway it's a good promo. If it's only to use the credit, then you can better churn another CC ..

  • Anyone know at what point you are asked for the promo code? Is it during the license verification process? Just not sure if I already missed it somehow.

    • +1

      The only place it lets me add is at the checkout page after I have selected a car for hire for at least one hour.

      • +1

        Ah okay, thanks. Any idea if the remaining credit can be used on later bookings? Or does the entire credit need to be used on the first booking where you enter the promo code?

  • +4

    I think you actually have to book a car to use this it’s not just credit that can sit in your account. Just tested trying to book a car and it works.

  • +3

    popcar seem to offer better value. sorry OP. they are offering even more credit now and $0 member fee

    • +8

      No need to be sorry, bargain is bargain and you can post it as a deal. I'm listing my car on multiple platforms :)

        Must have P2 license or above
        Cars are located in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Byron

  • +4

    OP, I don't think you're associated just because you effectively have a referral code…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:store_representative

    Who is associated?

    • Friends/Family - you are associated with someone who works there or owns the business (friend, family member etc)
    • Employee - you work there as an employee or contractor but you're not part of sales & marketing nor do you represent the company.
    • Product Representative - you don't work for the store however you have some ownership of the product or brand. e.g. distributor, author of book
    • 3rd Party Marketing - you work for a company hired by the store to promote their products or their online presence (including SEO)
    • Official Marketing - you are part of sales & marketing/advertising of the store itself
    • Official Store Representative - you represent the company and have authority to, say, make or withdraw offer and speak on behalf of the company.
    • hmm good point, am I part of "Product Representative" then? I'll post in twam

      • +6

        You're none of the above. Are you associated with eBay or Gumtree if you sell your stuff on there? No

      • +1

        You are not associated, get rid of it.

      bored mate?

  • Is there any way to join without timing them your licence details

    • +4

      Let's be honest, everyone's got your licence details already.

      • +2

        They shouldn't ask if they already have it.. 😁

    • +4

      Can you hire a car from anywhere without a licence?

  • -2

    Hmmm
    Can someone verify if this is legit?

    • +2

      It is.

      • +1

        @p1723 there you go

  • -1

    All these companies wanting my licence number…not worth it for a bargain !!

    • +1

      Side track:
      You should have seen the sign-up process for CarNextDoor,
      ie. holding your driver's license with full frontal face shot.

      Intrusive but it's the same for signing up to some crypto-trading platforms too.

      So, while people get "upset" about all the recent hacks,
      the extent of how our data just floats online is immeasurable,
      and good luck to governments prosecuting foreign corporations
      who don't even disclose publicly if they have been compromised.

    Ok so trying to book a car for a day, cost is $70 + $150 first time deposit due now, and 53c per km due after the trip. I apply the code and it removes the $70 charge due now but not the deposit. Will the remaining $130 of the promo credit be kept for use against the fuel charges at the end? Or is it only used for the hire/booking fees?

    • +2

      from the terms point 6

      The Driving Credit can be used to pay for booking fee, Basic Cover fee, Premium Cover fee, time charges and distance charges. The Driving Credit cannot be used for the deposit for your first trip, tolls, membership fees or other trip charges.

      so yeah the distance charge is covered

      • +1

        Right, I’ve just been onto their live chat because I want to book a car for a trip in early Jan, looks like I can use the credit to cover the booking fees now but the remainder will expire before the distance fees are charged after the trip, due to the 30 day expiry. Bit annoying!

  • Oh i used carnextdoor before. Didnt know they got bought out by uber, hope they got a good deal!

  • +2

    I would consider the following before using this service.

    I am not OP and have no idea as to the veracity of the information/advice and you should do your own checks.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/z6f4ut/if_you_re…

    • Oof, that’s very concerning. And to think I was about to pay extra for the lower excess…

  • +2

    This actually really helped, thanks! I needed a car for a trip up to Brisbane so has actually saved me a bunch of money

  • I had a booking with Car next door for January and it hasn’t transferred over to Uber, paid the deposit already. Not a smooth process and waiting on a response from them

  • +1

    No luck for existing customers.

  • -3

    Your car's not properly insured and all you make is $3.4k a year (probably much less before running costs and sharing plan fees) for your 2nd most valuable asset. No thanks Uber, GFY

    • +1

      This is for borrowing a car, they have different promotions for listing out your car.

      I have been with them for years and being a cheap ozbargainer, it's totally worth if you know the proper way. Talk with your accountant :)

      • I know this offer is for borrowing a car, I was pointing out that for $3.5k it is not much factored against the risk.
        How much do you make nett per car?

  • +1

    Please beware the car next door does check your credit history and makes your scrore lower. They should tell this in advance (not sure if I missed it somehow).

    I blindly resgitered the account, ended up not using it but my credit score now is lower.

  • Do they do credit check?

  • How do you verify the DL? The app doesn't accept the promo code and the website video button doesn't do anything

  • Wouldn't touch this lot with a 10ft barge pole.
    My cousin rented a car using Car Next Door and ended up being pulled over by the cops and the car impounded while driving to a job about an hour away and was left stranded on the side of the road for a bit.

    The owner of the car had his license suspended, so reckoned renting the car out in the mean time was a good idea.
    But the car was banned as well for multiple defects.

    Their support originally only offered to deduct the cost of the day he was pulled over by the cops and cancel the remaining days he had booked it, until we pushed back and they refunded the whole amount.

    Super dodgy and they don't appear to do any due diligence on the cars they're allowing people book.
    So you could be booking out a complete death trap without ever knowing.

    • +1

      To be fair it is under new ownership now.

  • Booked a ute to do a tip run tomorrow.

  • I'm having troubles with the ID process - I contacted support and they think said there is an ongoing issue and hoping to fix it by tomorrow.
