If you don't mind fighting off some pensioners these are the same price @Aldi starting tomorrow.

    • +24

      Question.

Can I fight pensioners without buying thongs?

Just asking as Im sick of fighting groups of toddlers, have to bend down to punch and its making my back sore.

      • +9

You're doing it wrong. Just kick toddlers. Less effort.

      • +1

yeah i give you permission. if they ask you just slipped an elbow or a leg (depending on what you did)

      • Careful of them pensioners. They fight dirty.

As for the little shits. Either yeet them or punt them to the far aisle.

      • Everybody gangsta until they meet Ryusei.

    • Thong any pensioner who gets in your way

The thought of Granny's camel toe hugging a pair of these skin tight thongs…. There i shared my thoughts, I'll show myself out now.

        • go have a cold shower

    • +1

I thought fighting for life for $12 thongs is a tradition one needs to follow to get proper ALDI shopping experience.

      • +1

Some say its a rite of passage.

    • The knock off Birks look ok too!

  • -5

    Cheaper here…

    • +4

you are right… i can't tell the difference.

    • +10

      Mum I need new Havis
But we have Havis at home
      Havis at home

    • +2

I get what you’re saying, and I’ve given several pairs of these a try. However, they wear out in 1/10th of the time that Havai’s do and sharp rocks will pierce right through them. Ok for around home or something, but sadly not a substitute.

    • +1

Yea jv, was gonna give you props for finally being useful, na.

    • +1

Had a feeling jv would show here with yet another stupid post. Golf clap.

Ever since Birkenstocks became cool havaiana's business model for overpriced thongs kinda disintegrated.

    • +6

      Birkenstocks are cool?

      • +1

        Well
        They're comfy af
and are the footwear of choice of the better off socioeconomic areas.

        So yep.

I thought they were disgusting until i wore a pair.
4 years later and they're still going strong, no more failed havaianas.

        • +10

          They're comfy ugly af
and are the footwear of choice of the better off socioeconomic areas look at me crowd.

          • +1

@OzBragain: Don't knock em till you try em.

Once you get a pair you'll wonder why you ever stuck to thongs for so long.

          • +2

@OzBragain: You've clearly never worn them. Function trumps fashion in many regards

            • +2

@Hinee: I'll take function over fashion any day but you'll never see me in a pair of Birkenstocks.

              • +3

@OzBragain: "Who wants to walk on soft yet supporting shaped cork when you can walk on thin $2 chinese rubber with a cool logo".

@ssfps: You must be fun at parties!

I'm not advocating for thongs over any other footwear, just commenting on how comical Birkenstocks look and the type of people who wear them. Appreciate you taking the time to support my point regarding the type of people who wear them.

      • +8

No. They're in the same camp as the croc wearing uglies.

        "But they're comfy AF"

        • Chaotic good: Crocs thongs. Don't look ridiculous like regular crocs but retain the comfort. Wore mine daily for 3 years, only then did one snap. Bought a fresh pair on Black Friday.

    • any recommendations?

    • +1

      Jeff Wears Birkenstocks

  • I don't get it, what happened to the $1 thongs kmart used to sell

    • +23

I was in store last week, the cheapest I could see was $1.50. I went baller and got the $3.00 pair.

      • +26

        Easy now money bags.

        • +5

I bought them for Ozbargain research. Wanted to see how long they last.

      • +1

and yet i'm almost certain there will be no difference then these rrp $30 pair. Would actually be surprised if the $30 ones either last longer than the $1.50 and are more comfortable

      • +3

If you keep spending like that, you won't be getting anymore watches mate.

      • +4

Ohh look at his majesty over here, everyone, apparently he's too good for the basics. Well excuse us, your highness!

  • +4

If you are paying full price for these ($30) do yourself a favour and get some Archie's.

Super comfy, provides support and super durable.

    • +24

Living in an asian household. I come home with a $30 pair im gonna be savagely beaten with them very thongs.

      • +1

living in a brazilian household, if I come home with a non-havaianas pair im gonnabe savagely beaten with them very thongs

        • +1

Living on the streets, if I parade around in an expensive pair of thongs I’m going to get mugged, or risk attention from the cops for suspected shoplifting

      • +2

Be a true Asian and lie about how much it cost

        • +3

Asian parents know. They always do.

    • I have archies and have had havaianas before
Archie's are definitely more durable but the "support" actually make them less comfortable in my opinion…

      • I have been wearing both for quite a while and now have a preference for Havaianas

      • They're less comfortable initially, like with pretty much every orthotic, but way more comfortable when you get used to them. And way better for your feet

    • I have Archies and Havaianas and the Archies are better for my feets

  • +5

You guys are the best (jv excluded). Made me laugh on this otherwise glum day.

    • +3

jv excluded? That’s mean. Imagine how jv would feel about it? If they actually cared about your opinion, I mean.

On a positive note, the comedians on this site are undoubtedly second to none. It’s good that jv is around to provide some contrast

  • I got some last week, didn't realise it was a sale lol. Hoping they last longer than my previous $1.50 kmart pluggers.

  • $12 and get surfer joes.
    https://www.lowes.com.au/m-traders-surfer-joe-thongs-44432

lived in those things for years in my teens…

  • they never fit me properly. One size is too small and the next size up is too big…I'm better off with the cheap thongs from Reject Shop (last much longer than the BIGW ones now, as BIGW are too soft and squash flat with about 4-6 weeks of constant use)

  • The ozbargain in me purchased these at St Vincent de Paul for $3 in white.

  • +1

I can't wear these anymore after trying crocs' thongs.
They're sometimes on sale for $20, super comfortable, and last years.

    • Yes! The Baya Flips lasted me 3 years until one snapped, but I wore them daily.

  • Kogan first does good deals on Havi's. Got a couple delivered for $5 each last month on a Kogan first trial

  • +1

The ones linked in the post are women's ones, the men's ones are available here https://www.kmart.com.au/product/havaiana-thongs-s159196/

Edit: difference is sizing and men's have wider straps. Mens ones also only available in black and navy

  • -2

Who cares? They were plentiful for $5 at Kogan and I bought it there.

  • Bought three pairs from Kmart in a sale last year. All three broke within the year in the exact same way.

These aren't the quality they used to be.

    • +1

Pretty sure they were always cheap thongs, they were just cool for some reason.

  • I can't believe RRP is $30. Wtf?!

  • these are a bit outside my budget, are there cheaper private label alternatives?

  • +1

    The Ferrari of adidas

  • +2

Sorry, hate these thongs. Are we paying for the name brand here? I usually get Quicksilver ones with some actual material that wont give me a Chinese burn.

  • +1

goes well with Bali tickets deal

  • +1

Havaianas don't last.. I've had two that snap on me within 1-2 years of owning, might as well buy cheapos from K-mart as they last around the same amount of time from my experience

    • If you get the higher model Havianas they are actually quite good. Current pair still looks like new after six months, which is a thongs record for me.

  • Emphasis on the word Basic.

  • Had orders cancelled again

  • +1

If you prefer some arch support I highly recommend getting the $8 Moulded Support Beach Thongs from Kmart instead. They are like archies dupes.

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/moulded-support-beach-thong…

    • Thank you thankyou, I might give them a try.
