      • Like everyone, I’d be happy with them being voted out.

  • Anyone know if this a cash bonus that you ca spend on anything? My kids are pretty much set for uniforms / school stuff so don't need it for that.

  • +1

Is that because the premier has too many young kids? Can I use that for my Uni child who cost lots of money now?

  • My kids school has provided all textbooks on loan so far, so I had a bit of sticker-shock seeing the booklist for next year (ATAR) is $700!

… What is this Z-library thing I've been reading about in the tech news?

  • +4

Without mandatory school uniforms, they'd be competing each other with much more expensive clothing from Zara, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Calvin Klein, Vans, Raph, Lululemon, even Victoria's Secret…

    • +6

Mine would be competing at Target and KMart.

      • +2

Don't forget best and less and lowes.

  • -1

Ever since they forced in BYOD, free school in NSW at least is a complete and utter lie.

    • +2

My bother and i went to public school. Nothing was free. Cheaper yes. Free no.

    • +2

NSW schooling has never been fully "free" in any way. Even public schools had fees of a few hundred bucks to cover for labs, events etc.

      • Those are technically optional. But optional in the same way as wiping after going to the bathroom is optional - consequences to your kid are not good.

        • +1

From memory, "excluded" from the fees is almost impossible unless you really are homeless. Even the poorest (I went to school in a pretty poor area) would still have to pay for it, assuming they will get subsidised back by the fed government benefit claims.

          • @bchliu: No, you can be excluded. It just means your child never gets to do anything beyond the basics including excursions, social events, competitions, extra curricular activities. The child becomes a pariah.

I gotta say, this is becoming quite a bit now, even some of my friends who have kids are starting to say this is unfair for people without kids. I get some of these types of vouchers, but its getting a bit out of control now.

    • +11

I dont have kids and pay my fair share of tax. However, Im happy these schemes exist. Having children these days is extremely expensive for most people. Also, investing directly in school supplies, extra curricula activities etc is going to directly benefit the education of the next generation. The same generation that will likely be supporting us when we are old and retired.

      • +5

Exactly. Look at the bigger picture. We have an aging population. We need more kids who will be paying future taxes and your pensions.
It's costly to raise kids. According to Finder:

A 2018 government study shows that parents at a bare minimum can still expect to spend around $140–$170 a week to raise a child. However, it's not unusual for this figure to be far higher for most parents and guardians.

Do you know how much a day in child care costs or even after school care? we already paid this forward

      • -1

Yes I do know how much it costs and I hope people take that into consideration when they have kids and don't expect to have everyone else pay for them to have kids…

  • Grade 1 booklist is $170 for next year. Things really are getting expensive. I remember it being closer to $120 for the older kid when they were in year 1.

    • What is on this booklist? My kids are in 3rd and 5th and every year we have to buy just the handwriting book and maths book so i'm wondering whats on your list.

      • Pencils, crayons, scissors, eraser, glue sticks, exercise books, music book, scrap books, document wallets… all the usual things.

        • Oh right..that is all provided with the school fees at our school.

  • So i give my kids $50 and wont see them till January. Deal brah

    Price list for my son.

Pants - mid grey melange. $55.00
Shorts - mid grey melange. $45.00
    Shirt short sleeve. $30.00
    Grey socks $5.00
Fleecy jumper - royal blue with white crest. $35.00
    Short sleeve polo - $35.00

The list goes on. It's not cheap.

  • Thanks.OP

The vouchers will come in handy.

  • +2

These free money things are too much. What is happening is our Government is over spending in this covid situation.

I am afraid that digital Central Bank Digital Currency will be rolled out like this.

  • +1

Didn't RBA say inflation is very high and needs to be controlled? What's with this free money then?

  • More random money being thrown away which will only keep infation high and interest rates to hit 10s soon

  • -1

Cant afford unifom, dont have kids.

    • +1

      True

    NSW election 25 March 2023.

    • This is exactly what its all about. The amount of people who dont realise this… and then complain parents have it tough…. I know lots of parents who feel they are lucky to have so many government incentives for having kids and feel its actually unfair as there should be some but not too many since they made an informed choice to have kids knowing the costs but also the rewards of having kids.

  • +2

The amount of losers not happy with this is insane.. Jealous of missing out on a deal? it's not that much money for all the shit parents pay for. just move on

  • Going to buy school uniforms for my homeschool kids.

    JK

Anything helps but hopefully the uniform shop run by the school is a registered business that is eligible

  • This so-called deal is nowhere to be seen on service NSW website. Not there yet! You have pulled us legs once again.

  • +3

Last minute Liberal NSW election buying.. LOL. Just before the caretaker period comes in..

  • +3

Govt should be spending money making public classrooms safe from all the shit respiratory viruses kids are catching, rather than buying votes. $150/ kid would be enough to place good air purifiers into every classroom and improve ventilation.

  • If I'm a student but in my 30s am I still eligible?

    • Last time I checked, 30s isn't legally a child anymore.

      • Child of the world and a student

    • You'll be able to apply for vouchers if your child is:

      a NSW resident

enrolled in a government or non-government school, or registered for homeschooling, in 2023

listed on a valid Medicare card.

  • I still can't find the button

    • +1

    • Except that my ex wife claimed it first

      • +1

        Ozbargained

        • They give it to both parents dont they?

  • Can you spend these on any purchases so long as it's from one of the designated shops?

    • Wondering the same.

    • They won't accept it in store, gotta purchase online

  • +1

Any chance of putting these towards an iPad or laptop?

    • That’d be a great way to spend them.

    • Yes you can, I did it, read my post below.

  • +1

You can use these at officeworks. Since I already had new uniforms, new shoes, stationary etc for my kids as I just buy it when they need it or at great sales and always stockup during good deals for stationary, I had these vouchers spare ($450). I bought a Imac for the kids school work and used my vouchers to pay for part of it. I asked Officeworks to price beat Amazon and they did the %5 price beat + used these vouchers and flybuys also. Ended up paying around $1400 for the Imac 8cpu 8gpu 250gb model in pink.
