  • Certainly a great price for a 3D LED TV so big, but I've always heard mixed reports on Kogan TV's so would be interested to hear on how others have found theirs (not necessarily this "50 model, but Kogan TV's in general)

    • +1

Reliability may play a huge part of your decision, I purchased 1 mid last year and it arrived with dead pixels so I sent it back under warranty and got a refund as they had no more of that model left. I then purchased another kogan tv (different model) through them and it also arrived faulty! it had stuck and dead pixels and the panel had a really bad stutter and refresh rate issues, I ended up returning that 1 also and chipping in an extra $50 and getting a 2nd hand samsung that hasn't missed a beat.
And also there did (not sure about now) seem to be a lot of reconditioned kogan tvs on ebay at the time too which would also suggest poor reliability. On a positive note they do have good customer service though and were very quick to arrange a courier to pick up the faulty tvs and were very quick to issue the refunds.

    not for sale now
    kogan = rubbish picture quality

    • not for sale now

Is for sale now. Just not shipping till 29 August.

      kogan = rubbish picture quality

Votes are based on if the price/ bargain is good, not your opinion on the quality of the product. And the quality of the Kogan screens suit a lot of middle class people who can't afford the bells and whistles of other displays. Just because its not right for you doesn't make it not right for everyone.

IMHO, I believe quality and cost should both be considered when judging the value of a bargain. I appreciate aussman's comments - but it's always better to have a basis for a criticism.

For example, I find older LG TVs were absolute rubbish - I could pick them because of the noticeable chromatic aberration, even from 20 feet away … in the showrooms of all places. Now if you tell me that Kogan has a lack of dynamic contrast, or such criticism, it absolutely should impact the "bargain" or "value for money".

There was a good thread earlier about headphones - and some of the participants described Dr Dre's beats as overpriced garbage. They explained some of the issues and gave examples of better headphones, giving cost as a consideration. That's the way it should be.

great article in the age that summarises the krapness of these tvs.
Having seen countless examples of these in peoples houses all of which are dissapointed with quality of picture and build

        • +1

I dont have a problem with his neg. 1080p screens aren't all made the same. That metallic border looks horrid too.
Personally I'd get a smaller tv with a better screen you've viewed in person then make a blind buy at this price without comparing unless someone can tell me that this screen is up there with the blacks of panasonic plasmas and the clarity and detail of samsung and sony LED tv's.

Though kogan does use samsung displays its not all about that. As I've viewed reviews and I can tell you that kogan gets acceptable picture quality compared to some newer samsung tv's so obviously the whole is something else than the sum of its parts. Generally from recent reviews remotes are average (can be replaced) and software is clunky which would affect other things like the pvr. Personally these things would annoy me more than just trying to save a few dollars especially since you'll be relying on fancy marketing words on a blind buy.
Don't get me wrong, you do save a bit of money compared to the major brands at this size and at least there's a return policy if your disastified… if you can put up with the costly return. Then you got to factor in the wait times.

        • I don't disagree he should comment the quality and allow himself to express his opinion on weather it is good value to him, but he should never neg a deal because he doesn't like the product. Thats my opinion :)

      • no its not its a presorder for something in 2 months. Its not a deposit you pay its full price. So add 2 months interest onto the cost of the item as well

        • +1

So add about $7? Not really worth the mention.

      • Cheers Ruslan

neither the price nor the wuality os good this is every day price not a sale
        fail on both counts

        • +3

are you dribbling on your keyboard… it is getting very hard to understand your posts

        • Sorry typed on iPhone
Neither the price nor the quality is good
          This fails on both counts
Add to this it's not on sale. It is a preorder at full price

        • Are you inferring that the statements "Presale Special" and "Save $450.00" on the page are some sort of marketing scam and that the TV will in fact be $699 after the presale.

If you are can you please provide some evidence to back this up?

        • +1

          yes its typical kogan krap
look at his past history you could buy vouchers but then he excluded almost everything on site by putting sale infront of it
          see
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50569 for some examples of his work

    • This neg should be reversed by a mod… you cant neg a product because its cheap, you want the BEST QTY buy a Sony or Samsung that costs 3 times as much.. for the price the picture QTY is great.. its better then JBhi-fi- SoniQ and Dicksmith branded LED Tv's so if this is rubbish QTY then what are those other ones? .. toxic waste quality?? :)ha

      • -1

^This is what I meant by my comment. Fair enough don't like something, but don't neg because you don't like the product. A cheap price is a cheap price, and thats what a bargain is. If your looking for a cheap unit then his is a bargain…

  • +5

$700 is a lot of money to spend on something that is shit. Either downgrade in size and buy a Sony/Samsung/LG, or save a little longer, you won't regret it.

    • +1

cheap is a relative word to me this tv is overpriced

  • My god… longest post ever!

    • -1

trying to make up for the lowly quality of the tv

  • Do these have a standard 1 year warranty? And where does a customer return it to should something go wrong?

  • i thought kogan are samsung panels or they use to be?

    • +3

means nothing there are only 3-4 lcd panel manufacturers.
there are different grades within each manufacturer
      different model lines
      different specs

then you have to build the tv. tuners electronic etc

  • If you have to wait til August anyway, I'd inclined to get something more like this

    http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ps51e550-series-5-51-i…

  • which make and model is this 3D TV?
how many glasses are included? and what is additional glass cost?
I know this one uses active 3D glass

and how is it compared to the LG Infinia 47LW5600?
the LG one included 4 passive pairs.
additional pairs cost around $20 each.

  • i have been looking at buying a 46" led tv for the last few weeks and it seems $599 is the cheapest i can find (not 3d) in big w. Should i bite the bullet and get this, i dont really care for 3d but the price is really good for such a large sceen. The only issues i have are 1. Is the pic quality & or functionality up to scratch & 2. what is the deal with warranty / returns.

  • I have purchased Kogan TVs before. They do offer reasonable value but they will never be as good as one costing double the price. For example, I have a Kogan in the bedroom. Picture is actually pretty good but the sound is terrible (I now use external speakers). They are also really thin which is good for TVs at this price. I am very happy with my Kogan and would buy one again, especially for a second or third TV. I would suggest if you would consider a Palsonic, Vivo, Teac, Sonic or Hisense TV, then the Kogan is actually a good deal. If you are looking at a Samsung or Sony, I would suggest you pay the extra and get the name brand.

  • thanks for the reply. Currently im using a 32" hisense model HSL8129HDI. Its about 6 years old and does the job just fine but we need something bigger as we have recently moved house and the lounge is further from the tv. Looking in the stores anything under 46" is going to be to small. I dont have a decent internet connection (2gb wireless) so a smart tv is usless… also im a little worried that the led "washed out" look could be a worse pic quality than my old 32"?. Reason for getting led is the power saving. This is also the reason why im not getting a plasma which would be the cheaper up front cost option.

  • Kogan quality.

I have just pruchased a tv and blu ray player and the blu ray froze after 10 mins and wouldn't release the disk and Kogan wouldn't pay for the penalty hire ($30 because part of series on hire for 1 week at $15pw and I was on my last disk on the last day) Customer service is rubbish. They sent back the dvd and new blue ray player which doesn't even work. Turns on but no buttons work and tray doesn't open. Absolute shite quality. I don't know what i was thinking. And when something goes wrong they just to email you and it takes a while to get a pick up and replacement. Better to pay extra and go down the road to a proper shop. Cheap junk and bad service. They say 14 day money back guarantee but no refund for delivery and you pay to send everything back to them. Just a con.
