UPDATE (7 Dec) from several OzB users, the free Steam key promotion has ended as per Rebellion's post:

"Thank you for helping us celebrate Rebellion’s 30th Anniversary with our free giveaway. Due to unprecedented demand, we have now had to end this promotion. Anyone who has signed up to the mailing list and was unable to redeem their code will be emailed to ensure they get access to the game in the coming days."

To redeem Rebellion's 30th Anniversary limited time offer of a FREE PC/Steam copy of Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000 game, you need to:

  • Add the game to the Rebellion Shop website's basket, apply a promo code, and complete checkout to obtain a Steam Key - this requires an existing (or signing up for a free) Rebellion ID account (privacy policy, terms and conditions).
  • Ensure that the Steam client software must also be installed and launched to activate the Rebellion Shop-provided Steam key on your Steam account - Rebellion's checkout page states that the Steam store website cannot facilitate this activation. Notes:
  • The Rebellion Shop website seems to be having frequent loading / timeout issues, probably due to the heavy traffic associated with the giveaway's limited time offer. If you are able to use a VPN service/software, you may have better luck with completing the checkout process on the Rebellion Shop website using a different geo-located IP address.
  • If you can't (or don't want to) obtain a Steam key with the above procedure, the Steam store listing of Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000 is currently discounted to A$1.87 (offer ends on December 8th, North American timezone)

    The Steam website cannot be used to activate a game.

    You can use the following link to activate directly through the Steam website. Just make sure you're already logged in.

      If you are able to use a VPN service/software, you may have better luck with completing the checkout process on the Rebellion Shop website using a different geo-located IP address.

      Or, be patient and wait for a bit and try the URL again later when the website traffic isn't as heavy

    Loved this game as a kid, used to play it with my mates at LAN's, single player was super scary too. Never got into AvP2 which I hear was a better multiplayer experience.

      I played both games and prefer AvP1. AvP2 turned into a typical action shooter rather than the scary survival style of AvP1. Of course totally subjective. I like action shooters as well but AvP1's style was what made it special.

    Finally got key after connecting vpn but now steam is saying:
    An unexpected error has occurred. Your product code has not been redeemed. Please wait 30 minutes and try redeeming the code again. If the problem persists, please contact Steam Support for further assistance.

    I disconnected the vpn and got the same error.
    I have a 15 digit key.

    Edit: Refreshed steam page and it worked.

    All the hassle for a 22 year old game (it was a good game though). Rebellion, do the right thing and make it free on Steam for a limited time (or even forever since almost nobody plays old games).

      I also got "This coupon has expired." when trying to apply the code.
      The game page also says:
