Can share my code if anyone needs

    • can you please share with me.

    • +1

      Code taken already

    • No, borderline useless item. Have only ever used for home assistant and as an alarm clock

      • The timer comes in handy too

      • +4

Have you tried moving it to another room to make it more useful?

I have mine in the kitchen and aside from the TV and our phones it is probably the most used piece of technology in the house.

        • +3

          my thoughts exactly.

setting timers for cooking by name, multiple timers, looking up recipes and occasionally casting a sporting game to it from phone while cooking

          • @itshammer: If you have a Nest doorbell, you will get chimes along with the live video and ability to speak back (may have to check the speak back feature though).

            • @rightsaidfred: So it acts as a video intercom for nest doorbells essentially? Just looking at video doorbells we can hard wire or install to the front door but the lack of a screen (only mobile viewing) makes it hard for occupants.

              • @SaberX: I have it with nest door bell, works well.

Anyone have nest hub and didn't know, try set timer for Chicken or pizza or cakes!

I have both, the sound quality is better in gen2. they have sleep tracking( this works really well, tells ur sleep pattern without the need of wearing anything) and gesture ( sometimes they are annoying as it pauses the song when u move around). off lately they have become super laggy, takes 5-10 seconds for any action, thinking of switching to Alexa.

      • My personal experience is that by level of dumbness, Google is generally the smartest, Siri is slightly less useless, and Alexa is dumb as a bag of bricks. There was also some talk in the news recently that Alexa is not making Amazon any money and that there's a very real possibility it might get scrapped, so personally I wouldn't be investing to much in that ecosystem.

        • I would have to disagree Alexa > Google > Siri
Pretty sure the consensus is Siri is the most hopeless of the lot.

      • +2

Sleep tracking feature will be charged for from next year (part of the fitbit premium subscription), that sucks

        • Di you really want Google tracking your sleep though

        • Extended. Still free through 2023 now.

          https://store.google.com/au/product/nest_hub_sleep_sensing

Enjoy a preview of Sleep Sensing through 2023. In 2024, Google plans to integrate Sleep Sensing into Fitbit Premium (currently $14.99 per month or $129.99 per year, subject to change and may vary by country).

      • Do you need to have the display pointed at you to get the sleep tracking?

        • Yes you do, it takes you through a setup process of it pointing towards your chest before its then activated.

          • @Juzitoon: Onii-san literally watching you sleep.

      • +1

Interesting to hear you say they've become laggy. I just got one from a BF deal and have found the screen to be very laggy - I thought it might have been damaged in transport. Spotify crashes when I try to resume playback after pause. It's cumbersome to get to smart device controls. For all the hope I had for it, it's now just an oversized voice assistant.

        • +1

OS is clumsy on both echo show & nest tbh. Don't think they're really made to interact with by touch.

    • 2nd gen hub can be used as a thread hub.

      • Can you explain further? Whats a thread hub? Thanks.

        • there is a smart home hub connection with this. In the future it can connect to other locks and security cameras etc.

          • @fuzor: Thanks but I already have my security cameras app on my phone though, not sure what other benefits going through the Nest Hub adds.

            • @xdigger: you can watch and control security camera in the future. Currently it can only be done with nest brand. Hub is interoperable.

Limit 2 per customer but discount only applied to one device

  • Never received this one, interesting……

    • Same here, first time I miss out. Maybe they are still mad I got that Motorola G82 for $200… :-D

@HamBoi69 @ShouldIBuyIt Received this offer and it's not Perks as I don't have Perks anymore. It's for subscribing to the newsletter. Will add my codes to coupon thread.

  • surely this has to mean that a substantially upgraded version of this kind of device is coming from Google in the near future

    • That or they're dropping support completely…

  • Does it support facebook Messenger video option?

    • No i don't believe so, only google duo

    • The best for this is Facebook portal. I've got the frame and works great with messenger/ WhatsApp

    • Doesn't have a camera unfortunately.

  • +2

I bought this to use the alarm & routine functionalities, and sadly have found this device to be totally unreliable. I really wanted to like it, but alarms will randomly not fire every 1 month or so, and my routines either will randomly skip actions or constantly require my voice verification.

    • Hmm, I've never had this issue! Perhaps your network is not stable as it totally uses the Google Cloud services to power all the actions.

  • Applied code and discount visible. But charges 77 the original price. Will pickup from store and cancel online order

  • Hi does anyone know if i can buy this in store as i want to get with the gift cards that are on sale at coles currently and also weird af I had perks for ages but didnt get the email for this offer
So could anyone msg me a pic of their coupon with barcode as I want to get it in store please

    • +1

The offer is available instore & online.

    • +1

Doesnt say online only and you can usually use codes in store so i dare say yes. I would bet if you showed them the deal they would price honour it regardless without a code anyway.

      • Thanks, i was thinking the same thing as i have gotten some good price match and even further discounts in store sometimes. See how i go today. Also its the ultimate gift cards they're 15% off at coles if anyone is interested in a further discount

  • Goodgle is shit, echo correctly translates voice

Only thing is i cant use the echo with youtube music 😕

      • Use echo to control google nest

We've had out gen 2 unit for a few years now and, like me, it's getting a little hard of hearing as it ages, we're basically having to shout at it when we want it to do anything. That being said, to get as much use out of it for as long as we have, it's a great thing to have, especially at this price.

    Our primary uses are:

    Timers
Calling kids in for ___ (hey google, broadcast "Dinner is ready")
Sous Chef (reads out recipes, convert units, etc.)
Controlling smart appliances like lights, switches, etc.
    Music
    Casting to kids chromecast
    Random and interesting facts
General knowledge that you otherwise would have to search yourself
Entertaining kids (they LOVE the self destruct feature which turns the lights red)

    • How can it be a few years? I thought this was newly released just last year.

      • +1

Oh damn, here's me thinking we've had Gen 2 all this time, just checked the model number and sure enough it's H1A so Gen 1.. with this knowledge in mind, I'm buying one of these to replace this old beast. From what I've read, feature-wise there isn't a lot of difference but as long as the new one isn't going deaf, it's a worthwhile upgrade.

    • What's that self destruct feature?????

      • you just say "ok google, self destruct" and it does a countdown, turns all the lights red and makes some strange noises like "boing" and "buckbuck" haha

  • +1

apart from the subscription for sleep tracking the new release would be the one where it can be used and take away as tablet which may suggest the drop in price

  • Unless we can install Android Apps, i didn't find this device much useful.

  • Sleep tracking will be paid from 2023, presumably why they are pushing this out.

  • is this work with amazon fire stick 4K?

    • Define "work"
2 different ecosystem, hence most likely answer is no
