$239.40 if you have access to Lenovo Education store

I am using this with my M1 MBA, dual monitor, one via HDMI and another DisplayPort. Some observations…

    • Make sure you install the latest DisplayLink manager software, otherwise screen rotation won’t work, this isn’t supported via the native macOS preferences, but via their proprietary software.

    • I have my laptop closed all the time and use the sleep function, and keyboard to wake. Sometimes the monitors does not detect on wake and I’d have to replug the dock.

    • More of a crap OS issue than a hardware issue.

      • +2

definitely OS issue and not hardware issue

      • +3

Yeah the points are to my specific use case. I’m sure with many other machines it would work well.

    • @Lastora, Thanks for sharing the info. Wonder if you could provide the link to access their proprietary software for MacOS support. The usb-c cables come with the dock never work well, ironically with Lenovo IML14 laptops. Simply replace it with a quality usb-c will fix the issue.

        This one here:

Interesting to know about the cable, I’ll try another to see if it helps.

        • Thanks for sharing. had x250s docking installed, mainly connected to IML14 initially, works well with other brand laptops, multiple warranty claims with Lenovo, 80% failure rates for replacement cables.

        • btw, web speedtest with replacement cables are not very good, about 1/3 compare to the original cable.

  • Better get thunderbolt 4 workstation dock as you will get 3 years warranty compared to 12 mths warranty

Why not just get a thunderbolt dock at this price? Unless you are on a non-TB capable device this seems awfully bad value for your dollar or am I mistaken.

    • Definitely opt for TB if you can, but in my use case unfortunately the M1 MBA does not support multi-monitors via TB.

I got my dock used for $100 for this particular workflow, so not too bad…

      • Ah ok. I thought macs have thunderbolt though? Or is it some other bullshittery they pulled that disables video output?

    • My laptop does not have TB unfortunately, only USB-C 3.2

      • +1

I thought TB4 is backwards compatible as I use the Lenovo TB4 dock with both TB equipped and non-TB laptops.

  • Try seeing if you can get access to Lenovo EPP or Edu store. I purchased my TB4 dock (Lenovo 40B00135AU) for $286.

    • When did you buy it for $286? Lenovo edu have it for $429 now.

Unfortunately I've changed employers so no longer have EPP access to check current pricing but it was $286.3 delivered.

  • Still waiting for a decent bargain on a thunderbolt dock.

    • I found it helps if you do your research first and know which dock meets your needs (particularly if there's known compatibility issues with some models), and then keep hunting down bargains through here, EPPs, edu stores, etc.
