TP-Link Tapo C200 $46 + Delivery ($0 SYD C&C) @ PCByte

260

The C100 4-pk Amazon deal/price error got me looking for a Tapo camera bargarino … cheapest for a Tapo 2XX series seems to be via this website.

Not the best price ever, but I have not seen a Tapo tilt/pan camera deal in a long time. Unsure of delivery costs, but C&C in Sydney. Enjoy.

Not only can the hacker see you, but they can get a better angle!

      Hahaha…
Site admins seriously need considering enabling emojis in addition to + and -

    Yeah yeah, everyone's a comedian.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to have a camera indoors or out.
I use several of these C200 on Home Assistant and they're great for their pan and tilt and infrared vision at night.

Please research private VPN connection where the "server" is in your home and you don't need to open up any ports on your router/firewall.
Yes it's still a little bit complex for the average consumer, but so it any tech until there is mass interest and adoption.

After installing these I haven't touched the Tapo app; in fact, I installed these without an internet connection on my phone or the cameras.

We've been through this a decade ago with WiFi security and now it's time people actually own their IoT and keep their data local or private - without assuming trust in a company (like Eufy or the likes)

I would rather we enable people than shame them away from a useful product …

All jokes aside I hear you..
I have my IP cameras on a fire walled VLAN that traffic can only enter but not leave via UniFi.
Works wonders with home assistant and motion eye.

      • would like to know your set up for this

It’s a little involved, but essentially:
          1. Create a new network (corporate + VLAN)
          2. Create an attached wifi network if you want
          3. Assign your physical ports to the network
          4. Create a rule to block traffic into LAN from the VLAN

          5. Create a similar rule to block the VLAN from internet

Agree with your take, but you are giving a lot of latitude to companies stealing potentially incredibly intimate private data. Criticism for companies that do unethical behaviour is warranted, just as much as being careful with your privacy..

      • I don't give them any breadth.
I hate what they've done, and the market state of cheap, security-as-an-afterthought IoT.

Though educating consumers is better and more productive. That way they may be better informed for their next purchases, and educating others.

    • Can you do the same for Eufy cameras in terms of blocking access to their servers while still being able to use the app? If that even makes sense.

      • If it has a local feed, then absolutely!
Rather block it and be wrong than leave it open and a vendor use your data inappropriately (ID and all face sent to Eufy cough cough)

      • As long as it’s got local RTSP/ONVIF you can block the $!?< out of it, and just reference it locally.

    • I understand what your saying here but try get your average Joe to do this is a bit hard, you really need to have some tech background.

Ok yeah oh wells Beijing can access the feeds, they can check my baby sleeping or me sleeping at night and then send ninjas to break into my house whoopy do

Jokes aside, this is not a bad price as I bought it on Amazon during Black Friday for $49 each but at least that was delivered. For pickup on this unit I’d have to drive to auburn so a bit out of the way just to pick it up so I’m satified with the Amazon purchase

I hate this, but it is true. As someone in IT it would be ignorant of me to assume everyone can do this.

With these kinds of things exposure is really important.
A nan hears "VPN" and "public servers" enough and next time they pop into JB-HiFi they will ask. That sways the market in a small way to making out-of-reach technology a little easier in the future.

    HD (1080p 15fps)
    2-way audio to China 🤣

Honestly spend extra and get 2k video quality (minimum).

    • Suggestions?

      • I'm thinking of getting a Reolink pack for my security system. Looking at this type but hoping there is a deal coming in the future.

          Nice $1K 4set alternative to $46 one

@alexshel: Individual unit of just the camera is around $150. I would recommend 1 of those to 3 of these with the video clarity. 1k set is worth the investment if you want a full setup with recording plus bulk makes it cheaper overall. I was thinking of going the cheaper camera setup but PoE and better recording - else you have a system but can't do anything with the footage since it is grainy. 👍 hope that helps Alexshel.

  • Wow, never realised 720p looked so blurry.

  • Can you put this indoor but to record the outside (does it work behind clear window)?

    • +5

I do this, but nightvision wont work as the infrared illumination will reflect off the window.

    • Yes.

    • I would say it could but not sure what you plan to record from outside assuming you are using live detection to record?

  • I have the 2k version of this to monitor my dog.

It automatically rotates to the wall and turns on the privacy mode whenever anyone is home.

I have this and Reolink in separate Places…. But Reolink performance is far better and accurate….
