Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, EX MACHINA. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test-charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan's latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated-and more deceptive-than the two men could have imagined.

We need 28 Days Later and Sunshine on 4K already!

28 Days Later is a good film, but people seem to forget how bad it looks nowadays as it was filmed with standard definition consumer grade handhelds at 480p. The higher definition the media, the worse it looks. Same reason it can never be remastered.

It's surprising it was even released on blu-ray as it just emphasises the poor quality and looks worse than the DVD. Only the final scene was filmed on 35mm and it stands out a lot. A shame really.

      • Can’t be as bad as Lock, Stock…surely?

        • +1

          Worse.

Lock, Stock was filmed on 16mm film at 1080p.

Good movie but I do feel cheated when these 4K titles don't have the BluRay also bundled in. Not cool

At least we’re getting a release.
I remember chasing a 4K copy of this movie a few years ago but there was no local release for some reasons. And importing from UK was over $30 plus postage.
Heck, still haven’t seen a local 1080p release of Equilibrium (JB only had the DVD years ago).

The audio in this release is kinda scuffed(heavily dynamically compressed.), however it does have better video in comparison to the US release being that it uses a bd100 . I've made a hybrid release of the two to make the best release possible

    • so the US audio is better? Does your edit sync well?

      • it syncs well just needs a bit of tinkering

  • Good movie 👍
