[Pre Order] ASUS Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB RDNA 3 Reference Model Graphics Card $1789 + Shipping @ PC Case Gear

236

EDIT: Out of Stock as at 2:06pm AEDT

Brand new, top-of-the-line AMD graphics card is available for pre-order at PC Case Gear. PC Case Gear is expecting more stock on Boxing Day. I assume these will ship out a couple of days after that.

Yes, it's technically not a deal as it is full price and any new GPU pricing is a bit of a stitch-up, but thought I'd post for anyone interested who missed out on the initial offerings.

  • HODL, wait till the 4080 dropped below 2k

    • +11
    • +2

It already did, I'm HODLing for AIB cards personally.

    • +11

im hodl by not buying 40/7000 series at all

    • Why would that matter for folks that specifically want these AMD cards?

      • +1

        powerlimit.

      • Curious, why would you want amd cards over nvidia cards (if given $ is not the issue)? Even outside of gaming where nvidia have advantage in RT and DLSS is more widespread than FSR, nvidia have the bigger lead in productivity workloads as well.

        • +4

Price is the only reason to buy either card..

Why would anyone buy a RTX3050 for the same price as a RX6600 when the AMD card is around 35%

Why would anyone buy a RTX3060 for the same price as a RX6700XT when the AMD card is around 35% faster

None of these cards can play games well with ray tracing
          Price wins :)

          • +2

@vid_ghost: I get the money argument, but the way the guy asked sounds like he will preference amd cards even ignoring the frames per dollar thing hence my question

        • If don't really care about RT, good raster fine. AMD is good bang for buck, and I like to support the underdog. If nvidias pricing is nuts now, imagine the case with no AMD competition.

          • +1

@Oxxy: with all due respect, I dont think there is anymore bang for the buck & underdog argument for AMD beginning this generation for both cpu & gpu, they have shown themselves to be the same as intel or nvidia, no better no worse when it comes to treating consumers like fools. If its was the older cards the $ per performance argument is definitely there for amd, not for the 7000 series im afraid.

            • @Brrrrt: I think AMD has gone the direction of lets sell out of our old stock before releasing new 7800/7700 and 7600 cards…

also AMD's price for the 7900XT and 7900XTX are $100 less vs the 6900XT and 6950XT Release pricing. its not terrible but not as bad an Nvidia

            • @Brrrrt: Yeah fair call on that Brrrrt, very ordinary behaviour from them this gen. Seems it's a race to the bottom :/

        • +1

Hackintosh maybe. There are no nvidia drivers for MacOS, but there are AMD drivers available and people have working hackintosh systems with 6xxx series cards. It's a small market I know.

        • Open source Linux drivers. Nvidia requires you to use a proprietary binary driver, no source code. This is the main reason (besides price) i bought an rx6000 series card.

  • +6

This is not a deal. I can't see them sell well at this price

    • +8

I listened to the hodlrs and passed on the $900 6900XT rip

      • +6

You mean the $900 face masks stitch up

      • +1

That was a good deal. Bugger

      • Especially to hodlers jimmy, as his budget only $500.

        • But I've never spent over $370 on a gpu. The 1080ti was $1500 in 2017 lul . I just built my entire pc with a 6600xt for $1100.

Jimmy hasn't even bought steak for 8 months. I get free range chicken for $15kg and red salmon for $13.70kg

          • +1

@Jimmy77: Ok jimmy budget is $370 not $500.

            • @[Deactivated]: It was a used GTX 1080 I bought in 2020. Sold it for $700 lol and picked up a 970 for $150.

Before that I ran GTX 560 since 2012. I've also stopped buying beef altogether. (profanity) farmers and their colon cancer. I also use 1/4 of the butter/cream that I used too (and only buy coles/woolworths brand).

      • Hahaha

      • $900 is too much for a gpu. That's I have no life or other hobbies kinda money.

You want the <$400 xx60 without the oversize 32inch+ tv screen on your desk

  • +18

    Thanks OP, pre-ordered 0.

    • +4

You’re welcome! Best way to save is to not spend.

    • Welcome, Julius.

  • +5

Also still lots of scalpers doing their thing. Some people still have money to spend, nvidia limiting channel inventory. Basically the entire market is in an absolute state of rourt currently.

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-rx-7900-xtx-sold…

    • +1

I have far more contempt towards people who buy off scalpers than scalpers themselves.

If they're so weak willed then they deserve to be ripped off. They're the whole reason gpu prices are expensive to begin with

outside of benchmarking, whats the point upgrading to 7000 or 4000 series ? dont get it … we need software publishers to make games that take advantage of more computing power and features.

    • +7

      VR
      4k
High refresh rate / fps gaming
      Raytracing
      Future proofing
      Can afford it

      Combination of the above, really.

      • +6

I understand all your points minus future proofing. You can't really "future proof" with tech. The next top of the line will always be just around the corner.

        • I am a bit dubious of hanging out for 5000 series, especially if you aren't already on 3000 series. This is mostly because of recent crypto boom and crash, which drove 4000 series development. Not to mention Taiwan and larger scale geopolitics…just my speculation though.

        • +1

By future proof, it means I want to skip the next generation cards if their performance improvement is meh. Just like how 1080/Ti owners skipped the 2xxx generation and some even the 3xxx altogether.

Considering how big of a leap 4090 is and with no competition from AMD, i have a feeling the 5xxx improvements will be meh unless AMD will have something up their sleeves which I doubt. They are struggling to beat 4080 with just half the cuda cores of Full fat 4090Ti die.

One can always argue, I will buy the mid end card now and buy next gen card with the money saved, but surely with that model in mind one cant achieve what bboT suggested:

          Highend VR mods
          4k
High refresh rate / fps gaming
          Raytracing

          • @John Doh: no such thing as future proof, just pr0n proof.

    • really depends on what you do, say 3d software (blender) 7900xt is on par to 3080, but 4080 and 4090 are above all else, if you have a 3080/6900xt or stronger its not massively worth it overall, it depends

    • Agree but when developers start unleashing the full power of unreal engine 5, the previous gen GPUs will probably slightly struggle (playable but not ideal)

    • Careful friend you'll angry a lot of nerds.

They think it's cool that a $4000 card gets 10fps in cyberpunk and Portal RTX running 4k RT. Whereas normal people like us would be pissed off. You're bang on about the benchmarking. Why don't they just write poor coding and get their benchmarks that way lol, as that's literally what MSFS2077 and Portal RTX are

      • the focus on 8k irritates me because it also meant amd neglected productivity, so a 3080 can outperform the 7900xtx in blender, while previously being sold for ~half the price

    Why is this a deal?

    This isnt OzInStockSoon.com

    This is RRP…..

    • Yes, well aware. Just spreading awareness for those that wanted one but missed out.

      • +11

Cool i just dont think its needed on ozbargain, personal opinion. otherwise the site just gets mega spam every time a GPU is available as we saw a few months ago when 3080s were hard to find.

Theres a good discord channel for in retail stock tracking if people are keen to know whens omething comes back in stock.

        • Fair play! I know I’ve checked here often for restocks on popular products, but not everyone plays at the same tempo so completely understand.

        • I had my neg reported on another "deal" for saying the exact same thing lol.

Then I got into an argument with the mod who revoked it (I think he was non-lhr's dad), unfortunately my neg wasn't restored. So even the mods are advocating rrp on this website.

          • +1

@Jimmy77: The moderation of deals is pretty random. Depends on the weather half the rime. I’ve had arguments with a certain mod before of the legitimacy of deals.

            • @Skramit: Indeed. The one I dealt with was clearly one of those idiots

The "deal" itself should've been removed, but the comment pointing out it wasn't a deal was removed instead!

  • +1

Probably better to go with those with 3x8pin. undervolt and oc, and get close to 4090 performance in Cyberpunk at 4k

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-t…

    • +1

Saw this review when another member posted it but it doesn’t seem fair they didn’t also overclock the 4080 and 4090.

      • +1

Add to that the Heaven score isnt beating the 4080

Gives me the R9 Fury Vibes

      • In a sense it's fair because the nvidia cards are more "overclocked" at stock than the AMDs. (Look at the power draw differences).

  • The equivalent of the 4080 sale for the XTX would be slightly below the XT at $1610. Given that the $1999 4080 is 10% below the $2219 MSRP.

  • Thanks for sharing.

I think it's worth waiting for AIB cards which are pulling an extra 5-10 percent performance.

I'm waiting for Techfast deal though.

  • These make 6800-6900xt look great

  • +3

Not a deal, this is RRP. Ozbargain is not a stock notification service.

    • +5

It's not even proper RRP. US999 = $1461, add on 10% GST you end up around $1610. The launch RRP has a 10% Australia tax pre-applied…

      • +2

Retailers always cover thjemselves for FOREX fluctuations. So dont use the exact USD:AUD conversion. If there a sudden dive in the AUD which can happen, retailers dont want to be caught at a loss.

Plus you have to factor that 10% australia tax includes a wholesalers cut and forex protection as well, especially for brand new products.

        • $1789 was the price announced by AMD AUS/NZ on twitter shortly before they went on sale. Wholesalers etc are part of the picture everywhere, not just here. It's AMD that built in the Aus tax here, not the retailers or wholesalers.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah and it’s just conservative forex coverage by all parties involved. AMD doesn’t want retailers and importers to be left high and dry if the dollar fluctuates. Hence the Aus tax.

  • +2

Totally agree, if techfast/bpc had posted this without discounts, would we have allowed it to stay?

    • Probably. BPC is typically seen pretty positively as far as I can tell and while Techfastau is more controversial nowadays, it still seem to be more positive then negative.

Regardless, I agree. I do think that with Ozbargains size a post in the computing forum portion where people can post current stock would be nice. But shouldn't be clogging the deals section unless there is actually a deal of some kind.

      • +1

Not really, show me a BPC post where there are just RRP posted without discounts.

  • +1

no deal , this is not OZ RRP,

  • +1

Not a "deal" and imo should be posted to something like reddit instead.

  • lol $1800 for a remoulded rock.

Copper (rock) moulded in fibreglass (sand) epoxy (petrol derivative) with a touch of silica (sand) to boot

All just to whizz electrons through and flip some bits
