Xbox Series S $429 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ EB Games

621

I've decided it is my destiny to always have a Series S deal live. If I don't, I fear I may in fact die.

Starts midnight 01 tomorrow, the 16th. Runs through xmas eve, as per their email.

Not as good as the many 399 deals, but still better than 500. Still better than a PS5, fight me.

    Still better than a PS5

I don't care to fight but I am intrigued as to why you hold this belief.

    • +3

      I'm also intrigued.
Probably why they call this The Silly Season….

      • You are definitely out there …. hahahaha

    • +2

      Halo Infinite /sssssssssssssssssssss

    • +54

Quick resume, muuuuuch better internet speed, more reliable online services, able to use foreign codes for significantly cheaper games without jumping through hoops, able to straight swap regions for same thing, access to emulators all the way up to the Wii without modding or anything of the sort, Microsoft Rewards points, Game Pass / Ultimate (duh), easy AF support for external storage, smaller and compact size, faster loading and whatnot than the PS5 in my experience, controller allows for AAs which means you can use rechargeable 2600mAh batts like I do which lasts a shitload longer than the genuinely pitiful PS5 remote battery, lower price point is an obvious one too, backward compatibility with hundreds of 360 and OG games, you can actually use your last gen controllers on every game (on PS5 you can only use a PS4 controller on a PS4 game) so you need not buy an extra if upgrading, and so on.

Plus it's price didn't go up 50 bucks despite being 2 years old, to name a few.

      • +10

Pretty good points - Thanks a tonne for the elaboration :)

        • +13

Oh believe me, it's genuinely such a swell little box.

Like it's hard not to come off as a fanboy, I know. But the PS5 has really (profanity) me off. I got the thing for Ratchet bc the missus loves them, it's the one game series she loves, she'll dabble here and there and plays a bit of Fortnite with me, but generally it's Just Cause & Ratchet here and there, and she's done. I'd have got one for Spider-Man 2 but was happy playing Miles on PS4 otherwise.

But it (profanity) me off every time I go to use it, which is genuinely quite rare tbh.

The download speeds are attrocious, beyond slow. To the point I dug up her old PS4, bought a cheap HDD, and left it sitting there a while to download every PS4 game I had, to plug into the PS5, so I wouldn't have to deal with it's shitty internet ever again. The hard drive on the PS5 (yes, I know it's not a HDD but idk what to call it, SSD…? w/e) is tiny also. It's got about 800 available but then there was another 200 and something taken by system files and whatnot, the end result IIRC from last time I used it was just a smidgen over 550/600ish gig useable. Which gets full pretty quick with just a few games like Battlefront 2, GTA 5, Uncharted, so I was very quickly having to delete things (hence the HDD, because redownloading that often was a nightmare).

Like at the end of the day, they're all just game machines, go where the price and games you want are.

But personally, I'll go where I can play all my PS2 games, with the controller I prefer, at a lower price point, and with internet speeds that don't feel straight out of 2005.

          • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: Totally agree. Tho i have a ps5 not an s/x but thats because I've got a pc whichhas all the gamepass games anyway

However I'm considering an x as an easy emulation box (probably due to your posts) and for streaming to a Razer kishi phone

            • +1

@justtoreply: Please respect yourselves and don't use a kishi. It is a genuinely garbage product.

Get a retroid pocket 3 or 3+. It'll only run you between 130 or 170 bucks delivered. Twice as expensive, yes, but much much better product with much more versatility.

Or the gamesir x2 is ok as well, according to the handheld community.

              • @Wonderfool: Already bought the kishi long ago

I don't want to emulate. I want to stream xbox so i can play it like a switch. The kids aren't allowed to see me game on the big screen, this is a solution

              • @Wonderfool: What about the Backbone? Seen they have a USB C one now too. Can get it with PS or XBOX buttons which is nice.

            • @justtoreply: PC gamepass doesn't have all the games unfortunately.

          • +6

@TheDukeOfNukem: Weird to complain about space when the series s has even less than the ps5.
            The S has 364gb usable space, ps5 has 667gb, X has 802gb.
Not to mention a 1tb expansion card for xbox will cost you nearly as much as buying another console.

            • -1

@cmdbash: Well, xbox actually allows harddrives through USB, as long as it's not a modern gen game.

              • +4

@Wonderfool: Thats a fair point, it doesnt have any next gen games to worry about.

                :p

                • +1

@Burnzie86: Haha that's true. Been a slow year for xbox. My highlight was persona 5 royal, so that's saying something lol.

                  • @Wonderfool: The next game to get me to switch my SX on will be starfield. Otherwise its only getting a run when the kids want to play paw patrol.

Oh and atomic heart is coming to GP so ill definitely give that a go.

But yeah, slow is an understatement

            • @cmdbash: Price justifies it. Series S here is 430, versus the digital PS5 at 650. Spend 20 odd bucks on a 256gb drive (maybe 30, I'll be fair), and you've got pretty well the same storage (the Xbox's 364 is actually useable, the PS5 has that and then an extra bit cut for system stuff), and 200 bucks less spent, another 150 less if you compare the S to the PS5 disc system.

I wouldn't buy their 1tb card for the life of me though.

      • I do have a PC and wondering of the pros of getting a Series X or just get a S2 Elite controller.

        • If you're not going to play with mates on a couch, emulate or stream games then just get gamepass ultimate and be done with it

      • +4

You should keep this on a notepad to be copy and pasted. You fight this battle every thread lol.

      • I am surprised I actually knew most of that despite not having one. The only thing I am stuck on is not having physical media, I buy heaps of cheap old games and can't do that with this. I am however interested in playing some OG and 360 games up scaled which this might be good for. Thanks for letting me know I can use my XBOne controllers, didn't know that but it's about time.

I would probably jump on it if here was a way to prove you owned the physical media and then download a copy to your hard drive and play.

    • +4

intrigued as to why you hold this belief.

      1) Sony haven’t innovated since the PS1. Ever since the original Xbox and Xbox Live, Sony have simply (poorly) emulated MS’s ideas.
      2) The continual bullshit victim act with the Activition acquisition.
      3) Sony are shit at backwards compatibility. MS at least makes an attempt to support video game preservation.
      4) Sony hates homebrew. MS supports homebrew. For a few bucks any retail Xbox can be turned into a home dev kit.
      5) The PS5 looks like it belongs in a 12 year olds bedroom. It looks like a tacky toy. This generation’s Xboxs look understated and modern.
      6) The stick placement on PlayStation controllers belongs in the 90s. At this point it’s just stubbornness they keep manufacturing this shit design.
      7) Sony no longer gives a shit about Japan. The switch of the X and O buttons in Japan to match the rest of the world showed that.
      8) Jim Ryan!

These are all my personal opinions. Feel free to disagree :)

      • +1

I don't disagree with any point you made, but I think MS needing to respond to poor sales has potentially triggered so many of these pro consumer moves in recent years. But hey, they did it. Sony got arrogant time and time again, raising prices on consoles and games, refusing to put first party titles day 1 on Plus….

Having said that, Live was the best online service by an absolute mile, achievements work better than trophies, BC is miles better, GPU is the single best thing in games, ever.

      • +2

Totally disagree on the analogue placement. Much prefer ps. Ps has the more innovative controller

Ive always owned all consoles (until current gen scarcity) so think I'm pretty impartial

  • +16

429 isn’t even a great deal. There has been < 400 for quite a few times in the past few months.

    • Not as good as the many 399 deals, but still better than 500

      • +1

True. But we all know 499 RRP doesn’t mean anything as XSS was almost always in stock with some level of discounted price.

XSX and PS5 are another story, though.

        • +2

I would wait for further down to Boxing day. I believe there will be $329 - $349 price will come alive. Likely from Harvey norman matched by amazon and jb hifi, not eb games for sure

      • +2

Available again at $399 on Amazon rn

      • So sort of, kind of, not really, a bargain? CBF researching the best price & instead just lazily posted the first "deal" I came across & called it a day. Threw in some childish console fan boy rubbish to top it off as well. Right. Got it.

    • 'Got a Series X, can’t ever see myself buying this half gen version. Though it does look better than the Series X'

'Had a stroke reading all that'

My thoughts exactly. Got an X. Don't want a Half ass S but it looks better. Right.

      My brain hurts.

      • +2

Series S console is more aesthetically pleasing than the Series X.

        • I mean, any small console is aesthetically pleasing. I've been wanting to build a 3L ITX computer for that reason.

    • i mean… it's a pretty reasonable and well-justified thesis, no? :)

  • -1

    Any bargains?

    • -2

      It's $499rrp.

I'm sure you know that. Anything constructive to add?

      • -2

$70 off a fixed-since-launch RRP of a 2 year old console is a bargain? SMH

        • -3

If you don't like it. Neg it. Or hey, just move on?

          It's discounted.

          Deal with it.

Or just keep negging me lmao.

  • +12

better than a PS5? are you kidding me?

  • +11

The series s is a fine little box and pretty good bang for buck emulation station. but better then a ps5? Come on dude, lol.

    • Better overall value, objectively.
      Better overall experience, subjectively.
      Better online service, objectively.
      Better price and availability, ojectively.

      Mastercard? Priceless.

      • +3

haha live in your own dream

      • +4

        Better games?

  • +7

I can not stress this enough.

If you do not plan to have Gamepass this console is going to cost you so much more than the X in the long run (medium run even!).

Digital Games are only available in the Xbox store… Do a google search for F1 2022 right now. Amazon physical copy $28… Xbox store digital copy $99.

    • -4

      That's some selective research there.

We've just had massive BF deals and Video Game Awards, expect Xmas sales too soon….

They also have literally 100s of titles every week on sale….

Only a numpty buys a game at full RRP. Physically and digitally.

      • And for the triggered physical media Dinosaurs who flog up these threads every single time….

        Resident Evil Village $28.49 digitally.
Amazon $68 and you need to get from the US.

Keep negging me all you want.

      • +5

Not selective, it's my experience and I stand by it.

        FIFA 23… Xbox store $55, target $44… Maybe you say that's only $11bucks… But it's 25% more.

COD MW2 Xbox store $109… Amazon, jbhifi $78.

        • +1

That's nice. For every one you list I'll list another.

But I guess you are going to ignore cashbacks on cash rewards and the MS rewards points you get because, reasons.

I also get to use said digital game on 2 consoles.

But hey, my experience. Buying Digital games for many years.

I've bought one at full price on launch. MK11.

Fifa is a horrible example too. It'll be free on GPU anyway.

          • +5

@scuderiarmani: You can also sell and trade physical games.

Mate I bought this thing delighted to not be a "dinosaur"… it's a disaster.

Costs way more. You can get cashrewrds and loyalty points at other retailers… When you are not locked into a single supplier.

Don't hate on the truth. Give them the feedback to stop ripping off the customers who are helping them to break away from all the waste and cost of physical copies. Digital should ALWAYS be cheaper.

            • @iWan: Your little protest won't change the inevitable.

Everyone is moving to an all digital future.

I get a shit tonne of rewards points through digital purchase. Gives me GPU for free. Cash rewards just a little bonus.

          • +1

@scuderiarmani: "Fifa is a horrible example too. It'll be free on GPU anyway." literally said in my post "if you do not plan to have Gamepass"…

Also, Gamepass ultimate itself is not free.

            Omg I've upset a fanboi.

            Help. Eject.

            • -2

@iWan: Fanboy. I have a PC, Xbox, PS5, PS3, 360, Switch OLED and Lite and a 3DS and a tonne of retro stuff.

              But sure, Fanboy lmao.

You know you are wasting your time when someone gets to that pathetic insult.

Like I said, I don't pay for GPU. My rewards points covers it EASILY.

              You mad?

              • @scuderiarmani: I suppose I should have tapped out when you called me a "physical media Dinosaur".

That's alot on consoles bro, buy less of them and save for a house deposit. ✌🏾 Bai

                • +1

@iWan: House deposit? I fully own my house.

Heck, bought my first working at Maccas.

You be you. I'll worry about me.

Huge props to the OP. Not only has he fished in all the anti digital people he's triggered all the Sony fans too. Respect lmao

Help, eject, bai. What are you 14?

                  • +3

@scuderiarmani: Omg you lucky duck! No interest rate burnnnnn. No wonder you can afford to pay overs for games 💰💰💰💰.

                    • +1

@iWan: Jokes and everything else aside though, one thing you should take away from it, is MS Rewards. He's 100% on the money, you can easily get yourself "free" Game Pass for the year without trying. I barely do anything on it and I'll pop at least a hundred fifty or so a year, and that's with me using Eneba and whatnot, if you actually buy your games digitally on the Xbox Store you get a bunch of points there too. Plus the fun lil quizzes and whatnot, and if you bother to swap to Bing rather than Google you can get a few hundred points every day just from your normal searches. It's really easy to stack away some points, you can cash them in for Coles, Target, JB, Amazon, even Dan Murphy vouchers too, if you don't want Xbox dosh or Game Pass.

Definitely worth a squizz if you're on the 'Box.

                  • +1

@scuderiarmani: lmao, I hate that I'm going with this one too…but we bought our home while I was working a casual job at a kindergarten. By 25 we had 2 houses*, 2 cars*, 1 kid with another on the way (exp. early Jan).

Of course, the Pulsar blew up a few months back so now it's only one car :'(

Guess you can't have them all

*1 - Well, to be fair, it's one house, but it's split in 2 parts and has 2 titles (and 2 goddamn gas/electic bills)
*2 - Well, to be fair, I had one car, and then my dad died and I ended up with his, and then my damn Pulsar blew up like a month later

                    • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: I like you mate. You're a humble guy and just trying to help the OZB community. Too many haters on here!

          • @scuderiarmani: If you have the disk one can't you also buy digital? So, all that matters is whether you want the games you'll pay more for digital copies or not.

    • +5

Digital Games are only available in the Xbox store… Do a google search

      No, you.

I've bought more stuff off Eneba this last year than anywhere else. Metro Trilogy was 3 bucks the other day, bought a 4 pack of Naruto games for a friend for xmas, 5.55 the other day, Saints Row two pack a buck fifty (Edit: I paid a bit more, it was 1.49 though, poo), Resident Evil 4 the other day for 2 bucks (still probs never gonna play it lmao), got COD Ghosts bc it's almost 10 years old and felt nostalgic for about a fiver, same for Watch Dogs 1 with all it's DLC and stuff the other week for 4 something, and the list goes on.

Most recent AAA game for me was Dying Light 2, bought it for 28 when it was about two months old. Outside of a couple Big W clearances (and Amazon matches), a disc copy has come nowhere near that. Cuts both ways, though more options is never a bad thing.

This is my account on Eneba, there's a fair few things I've bought through guest checkout not on here, but have a squizz and see what you think https://i.postimg.cc/Bb61d4BL/screenshot-2022-12-15-22-48-52…

      • Eneba is great. I picked up witcher 3 goty for a measly $3. My first and only digital xbox one game. Significantly cheaper than disc copy.

      • how do you redeem Argentina code?

        • VPN

          • @PainToad: yup thanks a lot, figured out and tried, works fine

      • Do these eneba deals get posted here? I have picked up one or two games from some Argentinian site but I don't lurk there.

Can someone explain MS Rewards to me? Is it like Google rewards? I can't find it on the play store?

  • +2

$399 Target deal finished today. They have this deal frequently if you feel like waiting till the next one.

  • How dare people prefer PS5 over Xbox.

    Blasphemy!!

    • haha , lucky we don't have laws for that

  • +1

    Console wars!

  • +1

PSA that this applies mostly to PlayStation and sort of applies to Switch. People that say physical media is dead. You obviously don't import games from Japan/USA or UK because the physical media is almost always cheaper to import for rare games.

Rare physical games also tend to appreciate in value. Especially Nintendo or Switch versions of Games..

    Digital… Worth jack all…

Can never get that money back. It's dead on my system.

Those people have never tried buying Densha de go! Digitally via a locked Japanese psn store and getting Japanese PSN credit.. Then your PayPal fails…
Then the third party seller is charging a huge premium for the psn credit you need because PayPal doesn't work..

Then the physical is 40 dollars cheaper on eBay..

Oh digital…. Try redownloading PT…. Lol

    F digital only, unless it's unlocked/jailbroken

With this Xbox… It's an emulation station/mini Xbox for ideal for light play. Could be a decent deal for casual. Would I buy it if I could jailbreak… Maybe… Probably not.

    • That's nice for you to share your opinions.

Every physical media post I'll share my opinions why digital is better…. Oh wait, that'd be stupid. I should just ignore the deal and let others choose what they want.

Physical media people getting so defensive, it's almost like the ability to buy media is dying and their taking out their frustrations on all. Oh wait a sec….

      • +2

I'm an advocate of physical media and have a vast physical media collection. However I understand and realise that the future of gaming will be a hybrid of 100% digital and streaming i.e. no physical media. It's already happening with movies and TV shows, gaming is the next evolution.

I do have mixed feelings about it. Resale value is non-existent and I don't really feel like I own the game unless I can see it sitting on my bookshelf. A future of cheaper digital games (hopefully) and less clutter makes it seem more palatable.

    • That some of the beauty’s that OP pointed out and I have done myself. You can cross region buy, on your original account. I have bought from Hong Kong, Turkey, USA, Brazil, and more and still have those excess currencies on my account. The games are often cheaper at times than physical

  • +2

    REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • -1

So uh, as someone who has the PS5 and like it, is there a good reason to grab an XBOX Series S too?

    • Maybe read some of the OP comments here why he justifies it.

    • +2

Multi platform games will be better on the ps5. So it will really come down to if you think gamepass is a good deal for you and if there is any exclusive titles that intrest you. The series s is really a halfway house between last gen and this gen performance wise. So if your picky about how your games perform and want more titles to hit 60fps youd be better getting a series x. I have both SX and a PS5 and i could live without the SX so far in terms of games. Git it in anticipation for starfield and other Bethesda titles that unfortunately have gone exclusive.

  • It's back at $399.@ Target

  • +1

Not even the best price ($399 @ Amazon right now) & you had to bring console wars into this?

    • Guess Amazon matched the Target deal.

      That I posted.

      • -1

Wow wee you are the tight arse bargain king.

  • IMO, the exclusives on PS are better but a Series S/X + Game Pass can't be beat in value.

Make your decision based on the games you want to play.

I prefer Xbox but it hasn't been turned on since GoW Ragnarok was released

  • +1

Series X is better, it costs significantly more though and I don't think this is a particularly good deal, but it's alright.

Series S value is not for Xbox games, imo, it's for emulation and being a decent package at the price.

High end consoles are 'usually' great at launch, then in a couple of years remain great value when their price goes down, faster than a PC alternative. Budget consoles should always be good value, I mean it's this or a Switch right?

  • Series S is $399 on Amazon again

  • And kogan 399
