Claim 2 Travel Insurances

Are we allowed to claim 2 travel insurances (2 different insurance companies) for delay/cancellation? Thanks

The claim form literally asks if you are making another claim .

So if you say yes then they will deny your claim

If you say no then you are committing fraud

    • Ah right, ok probably best is to try one first. If covered then all good. Good to have back up. Wonder if any time frame to claim, like maximum 90 days of travel or something…

    • I really wonder if the idea of insurance fraud will actually stop the kind of person asking this question though.

    • Ignoring what the insurance company think, I wonder if it's technically fraud if the insurance company isn't covering 100% of your loss?

For example if you lost $2000 cash, insurance company #1 will give you $1000 back. Insurance Company 2 will give you $1000 back. If you think of it as you are claiming 50% of your loss with one company, and 50% with the other, maybe its not fraud?

Yeah my thought too hence this question. Every insurance got different policy. 1 policy will require minimum 6 hours delay on paper! The other won't so 🤔

    • So if you say yes then they will deny your claim

      Based on what?
If the PDS specifically prohibits it then yes, but if it doesn't then you're free to have as many policies as you like. Why would an insurance company care, they are charging you against a certain risk so if they are aware of it they will happily take your money.

Certainly , you can have as many policies as you like but you can't claim on all of them (technically you can put in the claim for every policy but refer to my previous comment)

Why would an insurance company care?

You don't understand capitalism do you.

you can have as many policies as you like but you can't claim on all of them

Says who? If the contract allows multiple policies then it's perfectly ok. Larry Silverstein famously did this with WTC and claimed them all after 9/11.

You don't understand capitalism do you.

Well one of us doesn't. Artificially limiting what insurance someone can take is the opposite of a free market.

          • @1st-Amendment: Where did i discuss limiting the amount of insurance? I literally wrote "you can have as many policies as you like".
Maybe you should take some reading comprehension lessons.

My point is that insurance will do a lot to not pay out a claim . Pretty much everything to not pay out as insurance companies want to maximise profits. That's capitalism.

No, you wrote "you can have as many policies as you like but you can't claim on all of them"

An insurance policy is just a contract between two willing parties (a free market, aka capitalism). If the contract doesn't exclude multiple policies and claims then yes you can claim on all of them. You are free not to enter into this contract if the terms do not suit you. Hooray for freedom!

Maybe you should read all of what you wrote rather than just some of it…

My point is that insurance will do a lot to not pay out a claim

Sure, but there is no law that prohibits multiple policies and/or claims, contrary to what you said. ie "So if you say yes then they will deny your claim". This is 100% false.

Pretty much everything to not pay out as insurance companies want to maximise profits. That's capitalism.

Capitalism is when two parties enter in a mutually agreeable contract for exchange of goods or services. Have you ever entered into an agreement without wanting to maximise your gain? I mean you are literally on a website that is designed to take advantage such things, but you think it's bad when someone else does exactly what you are doing? Does the word 'hypocrite' mean anything to you?

  • Just like your credit file there is also an insurance file, insurance companies can and do check this when assessing claims. And like others have said FRAUD :-)

    • Ah right, thanks. I didn't know this fact. Anyway, we can access it like credit history? Thanks

And like others have said FRAUD

It's not fraud to hold two policies, it's only fraud if you are asked if you have more than one and lie about it.
