How exactly are you the hero going to fight back against any army ?

One or two against the army that can bring in 100s or 1000s ?

@Rod M: Those countries are not Australia, and history also tells us that people used to shit outdoors under a tree before. Neither of those circumstances are relevant today in AU.

The AU police and army do not go around killing anybody, and if the army did come after you, your pissy gun wouldnt have a chance when you are outnumbered 50 to 1 by people with actual skill and significantly better firepower.

              @CowFrogHorse:

your pissy gun wouldnt have a chance when you are outnumbered 50 to 1 by people with actual skill and significantly better firepower.

Yet history is littered with examples of exactly that. Do you think before you type, or just immediately write whatever pops into your head at the time because it feels good?

              • @1st-Amendment: You forgot to mention that most of those people also died in their civil or whatever wars.

What makes you think you and your gun with your average marksmanship can really take on the Australian army or Police ?

                • +2

@CowFrogHorse: You mean like those wars where rag tag groups of sorta trained irregulars took on sophisticated, well equipped armies?
Afghanistan (alllllllll throughout hustory), Boer War, American War for Independence, Vietnam all ring any bells?

              • @1st-Amendment: History is not full of heros with guns, its full of dead heros with guns.

Next time give actual examples in a modern society where guns actually make things better.

I can list 100 examples of mass shootings in america, do you know how many times a gun hero like you stepped in to stop the madman ? 99 out of 100 they did nothing.

                • @CowFrogHorse: History is full of dead heroes. Thats history.

I already gave recent examples of where a gun hero stepped in. And there are many examples of mass shootings in places where guns are restricted…so yeah nobody will have their gun except the criminal.

And like I said, this isnt the USA. And this is a deal on ear muffs.

                    @PCHammond: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_shootings_in_the_United_S…

A New York Times study reported how outcomes of active shooter attacks varied with actions of the attacker, the police (42% of total incidents), and bystanders (including a "good guy with a gun" outcome in 5.1% of total incidents).[33]

In what world is 5% good outcomes when guns caused the other 95% a GOOD outcome ?

Would you fly with a pilot that only had a 5% safe landing ?

      • The state has a monopoly of violence. Capitalism, fascism, communism, it doesn't matter. The government can use force against you but it is illegal to fight back.

Given what happened in Queensland this is in really bad taste.

What happened in Qld was terrible but had nothing to do with earmuffs.

For Army/Military people - If you cant wait for issued 3M Peltors or dont want to use manky shared ones; these are great for range and high noise days.

Comments about large calibre weapons, Standing next (1 - 2m) to 2 x 7.62mm machine guns undercover was fine.

    • also at this price, almost disposable

take it out field and have on you when you suspect you'll be 'bumped'
and you'll be able to fire and move and still hear your secco yelling orders at you

  • People might be wondering why use these, instead of cheap ear muffs? These have microphones and amplify the sound around you (volume adjustable). They cut out any really loud noise however, making them ideal in intermittent noisy environments where you still need to hear what's going on around you.

I have this pair and it's really good at the range. I also use it for motor sport events, where it nicely cuts out really loud noise and lets you hear the track commentary via plugged in FM radio.

Note however that you may still need extra earplugs if someone next to you is firing factory 9mm rounds. Those are loud AF.

  • Don't forget Shopback/cashrewards. I had $1.29 track for these from Shopback.

  • I have a pair of these and they are very good for the money.

I wear a set of foam plugs underneath for extra protection - Someone fired a shot near my ear with my ear protection off once and since then the foam plugs underneath have been a must.

As a result of that event, I now appreciate good ear protection. Per a post above, these (on their own) really don't have enough noise suppression to make a 145-170db gun shot 'safe' - With foam plugs they are safe for a short period of time.

I'm wondering if someone can recommend me a good set of ear protection with the capability to cut out 30db or more? Thanks!

Impact Pro is the model up from this. It hasn't got the greatest electronics in the world, but it's pretty cheap and has high NRR.

  • I have these and the 3M Peltor ProTac II. I find the Peltor far more comfortable as the earcups are deeper than these.

Fit is subjective though, these might be totally comfortable for other people. These are much cheaper too; the Peltors are $130. There's a Bluetooth one for $131 as well.

If you don't need audio passthrough you can get 30dB NRR Peltors for $49.

    • I agree on the ear cups. I find them too shallow and after a couple of hours the ear tips become pretty uncomfortable. The problem with all the deeper ear cupped ones that I’ve tried is that they interfere too much with cheek weld.

  • Thanks OP! Been looking for a set for the range and these are perfect.

This deal is sold and supplied by Amazon US. You're far more likely to receive a genuine pair from them than one of these.

    I run these on Tarkov

  • So you can mow the lawn, with the mower noise muted, while listening to music or talk at normal volume? Sounds too good to be true - a miracle of modern science - but I will give them a go.

    • The voice gets lowered when other sounds get over 85db. Dummy think that it just cures the loud noises and leaves anything that is under that.

    • If you've ordered primarily them for lawnmowing or other tool noises then I would cancel.

Please see my other comment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13120107/redir

      • I use them for tools. You can adjust the volume with the dial on the side, or turn it off completely - it would just function as regular 22dB earmuffs. Being able to hear your tool working can be helpful to know how it's doing.

They don't work great as regular earmuffs though. I find the 3M Peltors more effective and comfortable.

    • I actually manage to do this by wearing bone conduction headphones, with earplugs inserted at the same time. The earplugs block the mower, but I can still hear the bone conduction headphones clear enough.

  • Anyone know if these are real or fake?

    Based on: https://youtu.be/WXz13qF_4So

    • Because it is Amazon of they end up being fake it should be somewhat easier to return them

  • I'm guessing these won't fit over a facemask like this one.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/3m-200mm-visor-and-brow-guard-fa…

  • I received mine. No idea if they are genuine or not. I got two pairs in the order, and they came in different packaging and don't have all the same markings. I've watched that video and it doesn't seem to help as my pairs don't match either one.

    • Are the markings on the muffs themselves that you received identical to each other or are they also different?

      • Different. One has the AS 5 ticks, CE EN352 and a don't put in the bin markings.
The other has none of those.
The font used for Impact Sport is also different.

        edit:

One pair looks like this: https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/honeywell-shoo…

The other is likely a fake as it has a different font and none of the markings.

        • +1

Sound like you got a fake.

You could send pics to Honeywell and they will confirm or you can could just contact Amazon and they will likely refund you anyway.
Supposedly Amazon sent out a batch of fakes a few years ago and contacted everyone impacted and refunded them without people having to request it.
