Well, they have DVI so you can just use something like this to connect it. Only effective difference for you is DVI doesn't support sound so you'll need to sort that out another way, continue to use the laptop speakers if you want :)
looks good but I was thinking of getting samsung 27 inch 120hz tho. unless ultrasharp gets 120hz model then i will definitely go for dell

Also, how does the panel compare to the dell's IPS? Does it have backlight bleed issues etc.?

From korea, using panels apple rejected to use on their cinema displays. Dell uses a newer panel than apple/korean models but they are both made by LG (also apple and dell have better quality control).
Playing russian roulette with quality, I must say mine does glow a little. But this maybe due to the inherent flaws of ips and just the sheer size of the screen.
If you want a 27" ips @ 1440p for ~$350 then this would be it. you would have to do a little more research if you want one that overclocks to ~100hz as they were only done on the first generation models.

Was going to bite this deal, but I'd rather pay a little over $300 (or even $279, the usual special price) for the added warranty!

What is the difference between buying from outlet and standard dell. I see the reduced warranty but what other 'benefits' is there is any from buying from the standard website to cause the large price difference

Dell outlet delivers faster, esp for laptops and systems. Meh! Hearing about each item on there is going to get boring.

Dell outlet store is great, recently I bought a Inspiron m102z sub notebook (refurbished, 11 inch, 4GB, 320GB 7200 rpm, AMD Dual Core Fusion processor, Win Home Premium) for $170, with one year warranty.
The machine was delivered in 3 days!
If these units are new, why only 1 year warranty?

I called up around 1900 last night when there were 6 U2412s showing. Was told they had to speak to a manager and took my details, promising a call back in the morning. Well, no call and no U2412 in the outlet. Not very impressed Dell.
