Budget TV $1000 (Max $1500) - 55''/65''

Hey everyone,

I am looking to purchase a 55" or 65" TV for my new place. Wanted recommendations on what is the best value for money, around the $1000 price tag. Will be mainly watching Netflix, but also want to play some console games on it.

Thanks

  • Wait for an aldi TV to come up. You can get them for like $500-$600. People dis on the aldi tvs but they are pretty good for the price. They usually come with WebOS which has netflix. You may need to pair it with a sound bar to improve the audio on them.

But if you want a non budget TV. Then all the major brands sell 65" between 1K - 1.5K. Like hisense, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic etc. If you want one of them I would look up some reviews of the models and compare them but they would all be great.

  • I bought couple of years back 65 inch 4K HDR from BigW for less than $700. Paid using the discount giftcards to pay too. It works well without much issues. However, if you find the interface too slow, you can always invest in boxes like Apple TV or MiBox etc to get the best outcome. $1000 in TV world for watching Netflix is plenty. On the other hand if you need 120Hz for gaming then you will need TV which will be a bit more expensive.

  • +1

I'd buy a second hand big name TV over a cheap new generic one - the build, interface and speakers will drive you mad. The smart tv apps can often be annoying, I'd just get a FireTV/Google Chrome device as well.

  • If you're in no hurry just wait for good TV deals to pop up on Ozbargain. Picked up a TCL C727 65" for $700 after GCs last week. Not bad for a $1999 RRP TV. Very noticeable upgrade in comparison to the basic 50" 4K I had previously

  • Base model Samsung is best value/reliability for money in my opinion. Usually on sale between $1000-$1500 for 55 inch. My 4-year-old model, which cost $1000 on sale, does stunning 4K, and the internal processor is fast enough for me to run Netflix, Prime video, Apple TV, Google Play, etc., without needing a Firestick or Chromecast. Even YouTube in 4K runs smoothly. So a current model should be even better.

  • Anecdotally, I've noticed the feedback on Samsung support when issues arise is pretty bad if you search the forums though…
