  • As per awph comment - Reminder for iOS users that the linked SKU is the Chipolo ONE, the Chipolo ONE Spot
(A$124 for a 4-pack, around 30% off at the moment). If you use Apple devices you probably want the latter so you don't have to install their app.

The range of the Chipolo One is a little disappointing, as we had a hard time keeping our phone connected to the key finder beyond 50 feet. That means the Chipolo One is best suited for finding in a small area like your home as opposed to more spread out locations. Still, at $25, the Chipolo One costs less than the Tile Pro and has better features than the similarly priced Tile Mate. We think its the best key finder alternative if you don't want to pay up for the Tile Pro

    • Bring on Tile Pro bargain on Boxing Day… :) Will pass for now.

      • where's the best price for this? Amazon.com.au only has links to Amazon UK site but they arent shipping for some reason

    • @jeffr i felt the same at the beginning but after watching these guys tested in a football field i changed my mind.
The air tag range is pretty disappointing

At the same price as Airtags, why would anyone bother?

    • +2

The Chipolo ONE Spot has a hole for attaching itself to keyrings, with AirTags you would need a holder which makes it bulkier. I think it also can't do UWB so precision finding might not work.

      • This comparison below shows the chipolo is a much larger diameter than the airtag, probably because of the hole.

Also the chipolo is thicker, and no precision tracking.

Chipolo does appear to be hardier / less 'pretty', but I'd probably still go an airtag over the chipolo, if they're similarly priced.

  • I was going to buy Chipolo, but found a bargain for Tile Mate:

    https://www.tile.com/en-AU/product/down-tempo-starter-pack?c…

    minus 15% subsription by email…

    • thanks - they dont have the Tile Pro though

      • no, its not at all at their website

    • I was about to buy them too until i saw their subscription fee, which hurts 😒.
Need that alert me function once i walked away from the tag

Reminder for iOS users that the SKU on sale is the Chipolo ONE, not the Chipolo ONE Spot (A$124 for a 4-pack). If you use Apple devices you probably want the latter so you don't have to install their app.

    • thanks @awph let me add your comment in the description

I have a bunch of these they work great, they replaced a bunch of Tiles and some other generic tag before that.

Best part is easily replaceable battery which is important otherwise you're throwing out your bit of plastic every two years.

Only caveat is that they don't have a screw that closes the tag, so if there are little kids that have access to your keys there is the potential they could prise it open and get to the battery inside.

So Tile and Nuttag do the same for cheaper, I don't see the sale in this thing or it's unique feature. Also the idea that a Four pack would be sold at $160 (more than an airtag), with less brand support, less features, and I'd imagine less everything than an Airtag is also hilarious.

I'm not saying the Tiles are perfect, but at least they can be found locally at Jb Hifi as well. Nuttag's pretend they are in australia when they are not, and while the battery is replacable, they tend to have a high failure rate in the second year (I suspect it's intentionally dodgy battery contacts).

These could not be comparable to an Airtag, as it has no UWB / U1 Chip in it.

    • True about the UWB / U1 chip for the Airtag :)

Tile's subscription cost hurts me when I need to get notifications if I leave something behind.
This make the Chipolo One (not the One Spot) an alternate option for us to compare and to make Tile work harder for a better product.

  • At the moment use code FAMILYMAN for additional discount for the One Spot 4 pack bundle. Brings it down to $111.60. Doesn’t seem to work with the non-iOS 4 pack bundle.
