Setting up a Mesh Wi-Fi System with Opticomm Network

Hi guys,

A bit of an assistance here. Moving to a new house (and we already have ABB with 1000/50 plan) and it's quite a big house.
We already have established two ethernet access point areas (alongside the connection box area for the main router to be connected).

I am a bit confused about mesh Wi-Fi systems and was initially thinking about going with a deco x68 2 pack (from an earlier deal around $350) but I am a bit undecided at this point.

I've already got a router from ABB (the standard mesh Wi-Fi router - NetComm NF20MESH, but only the basic pack with no satellite points). I was thinking of combining this with the deco x68 (via ethernet to get the most capable and stable speeds).

Do you guys have any recommendation of what I can go with? I'm not too fussed right now since it will be a few more weeks until I properly move in but would like a really good mesh Wi-Fi system that can get to all spots (currently the Netgear router reaches most areas, except for a corner upstairs). I just need assistance on what to buy and how to set it up (i can configure router settings and stuff, but just needs some advise and guidance on buying the best wifi mesh system that gives me control, something that the deco mesh system is limited to - since you need to pay for the extra features, at least from what i've read).

I'm trying to not waste too much money and try to use the Netcomm router along with a mesh Wi-Fi router (or something like a Deco to extend the connection) and use the ethernet backhaul for the most optimum speeds for the 1000/50 speeds.

All help will be much appreciated <3

I have a deco system. Kinda dont like it because you can only configure it through the app…. the web browser interface is $hit.

The app is really nice, but damn its frustrating having to use your phone

    • Thanks for the reply and sorry for being so late, I think that's the only reason from me getting the Deco at this point. I really don't wanna pay for a subscription to unlock more features.

use your Netcomm as the modem > connect via ethernet > to mesh system

Since you said you have ethernet ports in the house use them as wired backhauls for the mesh nodes

If you want to save money then get Tendo Nova MW6, under $150 on sale for 3 nodes

Here you go found a 4 node pack https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/746574

    • That's the plan, trying to use them as wired backhauls and trying to use as many nodes as possible.

Like I said earlier, money isn't necessarily an issue; I just want something that gives me more contr ol + doesn't end up me paying extra (e.g. for a subscription).

But thank you for the information as well 😊

Your NetComm NF20 isn't needed at all. Plug in a Deco to the OptiComm box and spread out the other Deco's throughout the home. Tenda Nova controls are similar to the Deco's. For more granular control there is the Asus ZenWifi mesh series.

    • How does the Asus Zenwifi mesh series compare with Deco's btw? I'm still new to these things so figuring out which is the best option so I don't have to pay for extra stuff

      • That depends on which Asus and TP-Link Deco's you are comparing.

Asus has more control and no subscription fees. The downside to Asus ZenWifi is the upfront cost and you can't purchase single packs to expand the setup like you can with the Deco's. You'll want the Asus ZenWifi XD6, XT8 or XT12 for Gigabit.

TP-Link Deco HomeShield free vs paid comaprison
