If only the 7900XTX was this price

    • +2

I thought this was XTX until o read your comment lol.

      • +1

        me too. Hahahaha

    • +1

      Or 4090

      • +5

i am fine with even 4080 this price.

  • +1

Personally I think the reference design looks boring this gen so I'm hanging out for some of the nicer cards to be in stock in aus, but figured its worth sharing the deal in case someone was keen on these

  • +12

This should be the normal price for 7900XTX

  • +4

I wouldn't buy at this price but good to see the forces of supply and demand finally having some consequences in this market, so I'll upvote it for that.

  • Not saying it's a good price because I don't think it is but at half the price of a 4090 is it half the performance?

    • depends on what youre using it for

    • +1

No but it's significantly less, something in the 30% range at 4k.. Way way more with RT. I shouldn't have to say this but I usually buy AMD gpus (although my current card is a 3060 first nvidia card ever lol).

  • +3

I'm seeing free shipping which is a W

    • +3

A Big W. They should use that in their marketing campaign.

  • Really considering this deal because from what I've seen most partner cards won't fit in my case (Meshify C)

  • +6

With the high incidence of coil whine I would be hesitant to pull the trigger on any of the reference models unless I were a mosquito fetishist.

    • dont want to catch Japanese encephalitis

    • +2

I have this card and the coil whine is minimal. My build is right next to me and it is open air.

  • +11

    US$899 > AU$1343 > AU$1477 inc GST

So this is still over the RRP in my book, and given that the XT is the less desirable model, and the performance is less than promised, I'd suggest the base price before it becomes a bargain would be $1150

    • US899 is greater then AU 1343 is greater then AU 1477 ?

      • +2

Poor use of the greater than sign. I think OP means equals. Converting USD to AUD and then adding GST comes to 1477.

        • +6

Stages in the translation process - exchange rate and tax.

Although given we are closer to the source, and without the tariffs, you could well argue the price should be less than the yanks pay.

Either way, north of $1k is just too much for a graphics card.

          • @sane: difference is america has a population of 331 mil bordering canada (39 mil) and is on the main trade routes, aus is off the beaten course of trade, with a pop of 26 mil, Bordering NZ (5 mil). supply demand

            • +4

@Pugkin: That isn't a genuine reason though. Australia isn't a backwater with the occasional ship passing by, China is our biggest trading partner. The small national population is also irrelevant, Melbourne and Sydney are large cities, by any standard.

The only reason is distributors profiteering.

We don't seem to have any trouble getting cheap TVs from China

              • @greatlamp: When i was speaking about shipping, im talking about the standard shipping routes, which australia is not along
distributors have to make money, otherwise they wont distribute it.

              • +2

@greatlamp: Speaking of distributors, there also seems to be minimal competition there. I think Ingram Micro is the only AMD GPU distributor in Aus, so I would start scrutinising them a little more re pricing woes…

                • @SailorGoon: Exactly. Blaming shipping routes is not correct.

Until we had people like MSY grey importing stock directly, everything was overpriced here.

    • +1

Factor in likely increased shipping to get stock to Australia, etc. and $1499 would have been a fair RRP to begin with.
Kinda regret not getting one of those $900 6900xt deals.

      • -2

people forget australia is not america, as much as the pointless subs might show

  • +2

Get some cheap ear plugs for the coil whine too.

    • +2

As someone who lived with a 970 GTX with terrible coil whine, never again.

  • +1

no deal here. average at best. wait for AMD to get it fixed and if they don't, skip it. buy ampere or rdna2 instead. all the performance you really need.

    • +1

I don't think most people are paying attention to the fundamental flaws currently with these cards.
On top of many driver bugs, there are idle watt issues and broken VR components to name a couple.

Yes NVIDIA is asking for blood money, but at least their drivers and the cards work just as they said they would.

      • But all the forum experts told me AMD was going to blow all Nvidia cards out of the water.

  • +3

Hmm.. Iwould get this.. if it was $200 lower. HODL

    • +2

      HODL

  • I wonder if there's a price drop coming and retailers know… I definitely would love to get his card though… Still can't justify paying this type of money for a GPU.. 😔

  • +4

Funny they sell and MSI 6950 xt for $100 more still..

  • I think this is a fair deal honestly, using the 7900XTX at 1789, the same price to performance for a 7900XT (using HUB 4K numbers), is $1488 so, this is pretty much that. It's not amazing, I'd personally hold out for a sub $2k 4080 or a sub $1800 XTX AIB card.

  • If you need a new GPU and you absolutely have to buy a new this is an alright deal! Better than you're really gonna find elsewhere otherwise I think used 3090's are approaching $1000 I'm seeing a few sell for that on the forums.

    • +1

I need a new GPU but Im on the fence between buying a 3090 or waiting for the 4070ti (recently rebranded 4080 12gb). Should be releasing first few days of Jan and hoping it will be around the 1k pricing mark, if memory serves me right.

If that is the case, it should (?) out preform the 3090 and put some more downward pressure on second hand 3090s..

Just my layman 2c based on my surface knowledge - More than happy to be corrected!

      • +1

Possibly but I would be prepared for it to cost well over a thousand. Probably in the region of the 7900XT

      • +2

The 4080 12gb was going to release in Australia at $1659 for reference cards, so I think it's extremely unlikely they're going to surface near $1k.
Rumour has it it's going to be priced exactly the same as before (Although, that price was before the 4080s sold extremely poorly)

      • +1

Current rumours have been that it'll be either $800 or $900 USD. Given how mad Nvidia go on their AUD pricing, I'd wager $1500 at a minimum personally.

      • +1

Around 1k on release for the 4070ti? Bruh….

        • Yeah in hind sight maybe I read around 1k (USD). So you are all probably right, that would make it closer to 1600-1700 when factoring the exchange rate and added Aus tax.. dammit. Maybe ill wait until the 6xxx cards release before I upgrade :(

  • would not recommend buying from this mob

    • What's wrong with Computer Alliance?

  • So according to tomshardware benchmark, 6950 XT is on par with 7900 XT, but 7900 XT is $400 more than the 6950 XT's low price. Why would people even consider 7900 XT if it's exactly the same as the last gen?

    • Absolutely laughing I nabbed a 6900 XT for under $1000.

    • It's only for 1080p res but it's still very surprising. Another reason why AMD are always behind the curve with their shitty drivers. Then again, I doubt anyone is buying a $1k graphics card to play on 1080p and it's 30%+ faster at 4K for rasterisation.

  • 'Hot' deal.
