How were the kids? How was breakfast? What are you doing now to prepare?

    I'm checking OZB instead. :)

    • +1

I had breakfast, dropped the kids off at the pool and had a shower.

  • +11

    I don’t have kids.
I don’t eat breakfast, but did make a carafe of black coffee.
I changed a wound dressing in preparation for going out for lunch.

    • +2

You don’t eat breakfast at all? When’s your first meal of the day

      • +38

Breakfast is always the first meal of the day, in which you break your fast from the night before. Doesn't have to be in the morning.

        • +5

Why the neg? They’re technically correct.

          • +16

@mapax: because those people are annoying and know exactly what they meant but choose to be purposefully difficult.

        • +2

          What about second breakfast?

        • 🤓🤓🤓

        • +1

Whoa… So I mostly only have breakfast, often at dinner time.. Here I've been telling people that I don't eat breakfast.

          Mind blown.

  • +6

Had to return all the presents I stole last night to people who were making a lot of noise.

  • +3

rock solid, now to get cooking
my children are late teens so 8am presents
    .

Waiting for my son to wake up to continue watching Alice Birdrland 2. Some games are pretty awesome so far. Merry Christmas.

    • +2

Do you mean Alice in borderland 2 or is that a meme I’m being whooshed by?

      • +1

Yes AB2 in Netflix right now all 8 episodes not one per week :)

        • +1

Thanks, my wife liked that series and didn’t know the second season was available.

    • +1

Thoughts? I'm 5 in and it seems terrible compared to season 1

      • +1

Too early to discuss, don't want to ruin or spoil it to anyone.

    • +1

On a side note, do you watch with subs or dubs (assuming you don't understand Japanese of course)?

As much as I prefer watching with original language, I feel like I'm missing most of the show since I'm looking at the bottom of the screen the whole time..

      • +2

You don’t need to have your eyes focused centrally on the subtitles. You can focus on the main action and read the subtitles using your peripheral vision. If you miss a few words here and there it’s not a big deal as you can generally fill in the gaps yourself. You’re not studying for a law exam where every word needs to be analyzed

Everyone who comments will receive an upvote from me. Merry Xmas:)

    • Now go pee.

  • +8

Frosty… members of our family are not talking…I really do need to get out of here

    • +2

      Oh the joys.

  • +1

We all have the coof so are lying in bed, listening to neighbours start the frantic fuss of racing to family.

  • +3

How were the kids? Shot the cat with a Nerf, toy has been nerfed
How was breakfast? McDonalds, very tasty, very busy, ice cream machine broken…
What are you doing now to prepare? Cleaning

    • +1

Wait. McDonald's is open on Christmas? That's so horrible for staff. I don't care if it's double and a half, that's so sad (not you. Maccas)

      • +5

Why? Plenty of people don't celebrate Christmas Day

        • Because I'd say a large majority of people do. Either religious or just cultural. And by being open it makes it difficult for mostly younger staff to enjoy what is one of the only closure days of the year.

          • +2

@cookie2: Yeah, I felt bad when I saw how young the staff were, and especially hoped people wouldn't be cracking it as their ice cream machine is still broken.

      • +1

If you go to certain suburbs they will open as usual, no sign of Christmas.

  • +12

Been up since 6.30am. Had to take my partner to work as he slept in. As he is working all through Christmas (Age Care) we had our Christmas dinner on Friday. Did a load of washing, had breakfast, and been sitting and reading most of the morning. Checking my emails before I make a turkey sandwich for lunch and get back to my book.

Enjoy all the hullabaloo folks, but no thanks. I just can't be bothered with it. Peace and quiet, and not having to deal with family arguments and all the other shit, is the best Chrissie present you will get in you life.

Have a great Christmas, and don't forget to get your Hot Cross Buns tomorrow.

    • +1

      Sounds perfect to me. Enjoy.

  • +7

The worst one yet, tested positive via PCR yesterday afternoon. Not Sick, no symptoms. Fridge full of food, cancelled a Christmas Night and Boxing Day events being held at mine. Mrs is upset.
    Great

    • +9

Upset about what? All yours to eat now!
I would be more upset if I turned up and ended up getting sick from covid haha.

My parents just tested positive too and my mother is all upset. Can always catch up again when both parties are healthy!

    • +1

You got tested despite not being sick or having symptoms???

      • +23

Yes, my father who I visited was sick, and we were due to have a lot of elderly and young guests. So it was a just in case I dont become a spreader scenario

        • +16

Well done, you absolutely did the right thing.
          Big Merry Xmas to you

    • +1

Similar here. My parents. Sounds like you got the lottery. Screw it, do something outside if you're not sick. I've recently found out that many others are just going about their normal lives once they get covee. Anyway crappy timing and I guess mrs is upset as long as not with you. You didn't ask to have your covee friend along for the ride. Why did you test yourself in the first place though if you're not sick and no symptoms?

      • +10

My father who I visited was sick, and we were due to have a lot of elderly and young guests. So it was a just in case I don't become a spreader scenario

        • +8

It's a tricky situation but you made the selfless decision. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • +7

Just a lame comment so I get an upvote

    • +1

      @iNeed2Pee - um where's my upvote please?

      • +4

Pretty sure I’m meant to report you for soliciting votes or something…
        /s

        • +1

Where is your xmas spirit! For that comment, take my +.

      • I am here!! Sorry fell asleep from all the food I have eaten!

    Here for my upvote

“I have done that,” said Jimothy, and he crossed out:

    wake up

  • +2

Boxing Day deals should be slowly leaking now but nuthin. Guess the Inflation grinch stole OzBargains Christmas.

  • +1

Bed at 1.30am awake at 5.45am, so tired but have to push through to tonight. Hopefully lunch will wake me up… Or make me sleep.

    • +1

      Take a nap my dude.

      • +2

Hard to do with the kids being extra hyper today. If I sleep now then I won't sleep well tonight and the cycle starts again.

  • +2

just had my ham n cheese croissants, now to start on massive black tiger prawns…yummmmm

    • +2

      Wait, what? Sharks eat prawns?
      .

  • +4

No kids here, so it's just a normal day. No relatives over either, as I'm honestly sick of the arguments and squabbles that break out within minutes of sitting down at the table.

Today is a really nice day.

  • +5

I woke up a little seedy from drinking the day before. But a bit more drinking fixed that right up. I think I have enough booze to keep this up until next year.

  • +16

Was OK, but the neighbour on the left has been killing mynah birds all morning while he neighbour on the right wants to come in an access my property to install some sort of mouse proofing.

    • +5

Your English is excellent compared to what your neighbours have been suggesting.

Is your other neighbour building a massive roller door that will cause your property to suffer from a permanent solar eclipse?

      • +1

Oh yes, I’ve given up on that. Construction has almost finished but I’m looking for bargains for those solar powered led ‘skylight’ to replace my lost sunlight.

        • 😂😂😂

  • best thing about Christmas for me is when it's over - that being said… if you like Christmas - have a blast :)

  • +20

I helped save the life of a young person who tried to commit suicide.

    • +4

Thank you. It's a tough time of the year for some.

  • +3

Stuck in a miner’s work camp, the mine closed for 2 days, so practically the only person here. No interest in rushing home (even though mine offered to pay for it, but it’s >1000kms away) for xmas. The mess here put on elaborate special meals for a few still around, sat in my AC donga watched movies, played coop games with partner/friends. Was fk’n awesome. Might be aiming for more of these Xmas’s in future.

    • +2

Weren't really "stuck" when you refused to leave?

  • +2

I used my old santa claus costume and gave gift to my kids.

    My kids are happy.

  • +1

Stuck at home with covid. Missed a special day. Kinda nice taking it easy though.
Wondering how many others caught covid ~1 week ago due to all the crowds.

    • Yep, Xmas eve. I suspect I got it at a funeral I was at last Tuesday

  • +3

    Alarm went off at 6.30am.

Made a coffee, fed the cats, watered the fruit trees and went to work lol.

It was my first year working on Christmas day and it sucked. I'm happy working basically any other day of the year, but missing out on Christmas morning and lunch was terrible.

  • I spent time with my family, my wife cooked oyster mornay and marinated prawns. The day before it I drove my family to darling harbour where my 5 year old played in the water park, we went to the waters edge to watch fireworks at 9pm.

  • +3

To be honest, Christmas was hell

I think I can speak for most people when I say that, prior to becoming parents, we hoped and expected Christmas to be a magical time. We might even have felt that Christmas without children was missing something.

Well, our LOs are 4 and 6. My four year old is an exceptionally difficult child. He’s extremely ADHD and while too young to be diagnosed, I suspect ODD. He routinely has my wife literally suicidal. (She’s medicated and going to therapy and I try to give her breaks and outlets but the bottom line is our situation isn’t changing any time soon: life we chose).

This morning he woke up at who-knows-when and opened ALL the gifts, for everyone. My wife was miserable from the word go. His sister was crying because Mommy was upset. She drew a heartbreaking picture in her room of a fire presumably representing her emotional state or the chaos in the house and tearful stick figures.

My MIL is an emotionally stunted 78 year old pubescent who tried to make the day about her and lay into my wife about how “Christmas isn’t how it used to be” (When she hosted, before we were married, before we had children whose needs take precedence over hers). I came home from 3rd shift to a household in chaos. Spent the day managing my son’s meltdowns because he was overstimulated and overwhelmed. Then cooked my MIL dinner because she wanted a Christmas meal together as my wife sat silent in tears of exhaustion and exasperation, only wanted to retreat to a quiet space, but felt she couldn’t because her mom refused to leave.

By the time the day was over, we held each other and sobbed. Why do people do this?

    • +3

      3rd shift?

      I feel for you.

Instead of giving wife "breaks" find physical support for your children so she can not be at breaking point constantly.

Life is hard. I hope your next Christmas is much nicer.

      Be thankful for your health.

      • Great suggestion but cost might be an issue unless NDIS or someone can come to the party.

    • +2

Darn that sucks, sorry to hear. Hope you and your wife can find some time to yourselves over the next week, and the help you need for the next one!

    • +2

Dear lord, thats horrific. Im sorry things aren't going the way you planned. Hope it gets better for you all.

    • I’m really sorry to hear that. It sounds like such a draining day. I hope you and your wife can get through this together.

  • The FIFO life 😭😭😭 worked on Christmas day!!

    • 🤑

  • +1

Started the Christmas in Sydney and ended up in Melbourne by evening. Kids are loving every bit of it. Looking forward to start New Year Day in Melbourne and end it back in Sydney.

  • Preparing for what? Boxing day sales?

  • +1

Is it acceptable to be an OzBargainer and have children?
What is the ROI on a child compared with a high yield BMW?

    • +1

Children are terrible financial investments, definitely on par with “high yield” investment vehicles. But the emotional rewards are good from time to time!

  • +2

I got Rona on Xmas Eve, so isolated from everyone so we can still go away at NYs

  • +1

Santa was so kind that he give me covid.
