first time posting a dealio, think they where slightly cheaper 2years ago? but inflation go brr. Note: I'm not an expert i only just ordered one, i just have nothing better to do on boxing day than googling budget purifier information apparently.

Arovec AV-P152 non pro .. up to room size 15m², CADR under 200(?no info?)m3/h, Dimensions: ø228 × H400mm, Genuine filters $23 on ebay
Arovec AV-P152PRO .. up to room size: 45m², CADR 250m3/h, Dimensions: ø228 × H400mm, Genuine filters $40 on ebay
Philips 1000 deal here .. up to room size: 63m², CADR: 270m3/h, Dimensions: L325 W210 H543, Genuine filters $59.95 at Myers +$9.95postage

have a think about your specific needs, your room size, will it be for hay fever? smoke? dust reduction? pet allergies?

for the AV-P152(non pro) model due to its size reduction it's filters are a lot smaller overall probably just good for small rooms/studys? but filters are only $23 on ebay, just note a handful of amazon au reviews mentioned that model didn't make a difference for them so YMMV

i went for the AV-P152PRO while spec/price wise it's very close to the philips but philips lacks a 'Polypropylene Net' however that appears to be a fancy name for a plastic filter netting?

for my specific situation i needed one that fits ontop a desk for soldering so the smaller size and cheaper yet beefier than non pro filters was why i chose it, however the Philips 1000 'should' be better performance if you want more room coverage. Philips was a tad too big for a desk in my case.
also noticed on the official Philips website it lists the 1000 model as discontinued? https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/AC1215_70/1000i-series-air-pu…
so we don't know how long they'll keep selling filters for em?

the Philips 2000i would have beefier performance than all of the above:
up to room size: 98m², CADR 380m3/h, Dimensions: ø274 × H585mm, Filter replacements $119
however there's no current deals, there was a cashback deal when it was on sale 4months ago at $355 down to $255 but they're currently around $600

Do note: do not buy these for the 'auto-mode operation' said mode 'ideally' detects smoke or whatever then turns itself on, however in reality all these sub $500 models typically use the same standard honeywell branded particulate sensor or variants of it so unless the particulates in question are right ontop of the purifier the automatic function isn't very helpful, you're best setting up the timers functions instead.

if anyones used an AROVEC or Philips 1000 please do let folks know your experiences below.

  • Where do you get CADR of 250m3/h? It would most likely be much lower. Possibly as low as 70m3/h. CADR is not the same thing as fan speed/airflow.

Similar or rebadged version of this: https://levoit.com/products/lv-h132-compact-hepa-air-purifie…
    CADR of 40cfm = 68m3/h

    • on their website in the user manual page3 lists 250m3/h https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/5755/9217/files/User_…

edit: just want to add that anyone looking at budget purifiers for the 'automatic' modes will want to save up and get something better, all models around this price range appear to use standard honeywell branded particulate sensor or variants of it, so they'll only detect particulates Very close to the sensor. ones that can detect a larger volume cost a lot more. that said automatic mode 'should' work if its very close to whatever you want filtered so just keep that in mind.

It's incorrect and misleading. There's no way a small filter and fan will do 250m3/h.

Edit: apologies, I was referring to the non PRO which you listed first but then spec'd last… 😁

        • ah yep sorry about that ill edit the post to fix some formatting
edit: fixed formatting should be more sane reading now

  • Are these effective? Only asking as I bought 2 last year and am now considering a more expensive Samsung model as I haven't seen much benefit from these, many of the Amazon reviews seemed off too.

    • the pro model seems to be more highly reviewed on sites outside of amazon but since i only just ordered mine i don't honestly know yet, again it will depend on your specific use case, what particulates are you purifiying? how large is the room? where will it be in the room? etc.

for my use case I'm soldering electronics so i plan to have this right next to my soldering area, primarily to reduse smells and any left over particulates my fume extraction setup doesn't grab, while i have a exhaust fan out a window it doesn't get everything and my room doesn't have good airflow.
for others they might use these for hay fever, cooking, reducing dust etc

while the AROVEC claims to be australian it looks like a rebage/redesign/clone of the Levoit branded purifiers but i think those are a clone of something else so it's clones all the way down lol. But if you have two very similar models in terms of size and filters then it sounds like you'll need to look at beefier models

Since you mentioned Philips 1000, I got Philips 2000i a month ago and I'm not buying cheap air filter again.

I bought it mainly because of my 3D printer, it pushes air like crazy, our bedroom feels like the balcony door is open due to how fresh it gets, the little 3D printing room feels like there's a thunderstorm due to how fresh and the wind you can feel.

I have a cheaper Breville too and do not recommend cheap air filter. Breville did help wifey sinusitis but yeah, stick with more expensive and well recommend ones.

    • yeah the philips 2000i model should smash these in performance but they have the pricetag to match of $600 although they've appaeared on ozbargain for $255 with a cashback deal 4months ago? dunno when or if that'll pop up again hopefully it does, otherwise $335 still sounds good.
      Philips 2000i: up to room size: 98m², CADR 380m3/h, Dimensions: ø274 × H585mm, Filter replacements $119

the filter ebay replacements mentioned in the op are genuine ones as arovec has an ebay store

Thanks OP. Got a pro. With cashback it should come to $188.79.

Didnt make it on the list from Choice Magazine March 2022 in which 60 models were looked at and many were very poor performers. Samsung, Phillips, Blueair, Sharp, InovaAir, Winix were the top performers

yep these are budget models, seems the $500-$600 range is where the better quality is if you can pony up. Especially if you want a set and forget automatic setting. so either wait for a sale on the Philips 2000i which was on that list, or risk buying used on facebook marketplace, used in my area (ballarat) prices wern't that much less than new so after you buy a replacement filter ya end up saving maybe $20 at best? but maybe there's deals and haggling to be had.
