Honestly, 1TB QLC doesn't make sense, especially if you look at the review based on 2TB or higher model. The issues to be aware of:

      • The QLC sustained write performance is really poor. If you want somewhat acceptable performance, you want to ensure at least 25% free space on the SSD (so factor that in). If you want reasonable amount of SLC cache, you need to keep 50% of the SSD free.
      • One review I read, the sustained write dropped to 65MB/s.
      • 256 MB DRAM cache on this, so it isn't exactly great (ideally, it should be 1GB DRAM for a 1TB SSD). However, to be fair, a lot of SSD makers do cheat on DRAM nowadays.
      • The warranty complain for Sabrent. Some Amazon users reported they had to send the SSD to Sabrent USA. This is sold by Amazon AU so hopefully, Amazon AU manages the warranty for the 5 years.

If it is for gaming, shouldn't you be looking at 2TB SSDs? There are currently a lot of discounted SSDs, but majority of them are not quite right. Now, if you want to save $20, you certainly can get this. For gaming, since it is mostly read, this SSD is okay.

That was a lot of word to just say 'yes' to the original question question lol

Jks I know nothing about SSDs

You can get QLC SSDs. However, in general, you need to calculate the GB/$ differently. Essentially, you want to keep 25% free if possible. You could go all the way up to 90%, but the performance does degrade a lot. Let's not forget there was a 1TB NVMe SSD Amazon was selling recently, which was $85 if you combined it with another discounted product and that's TLC.

While this SSD has DRAM, it does have cost cutting in place (it's only 25% of what a mainstream DRAM SSD should have). It's still larger than HMB default for 1TB, but it is still cost cutting.

Generally, for gaming with QLC SSDs, you prefer to get a larger size one (as you don't hit the performance drop that early). Ideally 4TB, but 2TB is okay too.

      • Already have 1 NV drive isntalled, this would be secondary.

        Thanks for the reply :)

      • Can you recommend a cheap 2 gig model ok for gaming?

        • 970 Evo plus 2tb works fine for me

somehow I got this show up on purchase page "Prime Savings $10 off with promo code 10PRIME"

    • If you sign up for Prime (so basically you are not logged in to Amazon or your current Amazon account doesn't have prime), Amazon is offering $10 off.

  • Is this better than Crucial P2 or P3?

    • +2

Having a stab at it; better than P2, bit worse than P3

  • Best half decent alternative then at similar price? Gen use C drive, not gaming
