Relax, it’s just the dock. Not the other stuff pictured with it

    Edit: cheapest here: https://www.thetelecomshop.com/au/polycom-realpresence-group…

Edit 2: negging as cheaper elsewhere.

    • Relax, it’s just the dock.

      What makes you say that?

      • +2

Not reading the description and jumping the gun is what makes someone say that…

  • What is that? Can it be used standalone? Does it have any input such can be used as a monitor?

    • +5

      Lol RRP $7,979

  • Sorry, is monitor display included?

    • -3

      No. It’s a glorified stand.

      • +4

Did you actually read what it includes before you started negging?

      • +2

the description in this link suggest otherwise.

        https://www.thetelecomshop.com/au/polycom-realpresence-group…

seems to come with a 27" HD display. It may have a hdmi input…….

        • +1

The description says that the monitor does have HDMI. $14 for a 27" hd screen is pretty crazy. My only concern is if Polycom has put some proprietary crap on it that stops other HDMI sources working on the monitor. Fingers crossed it accepts any HDMI.

          • +1

@Sancho123456: exactly my thoughts, the camera might even be useless without the right additional hardware or software :(

            • @pichxlonco: Yeah more than likely that will be the case. However I'm a gambler and willing to have a punt.

          • @Sancho123456: Could also be HDMI output only

Is there such a thing as HDMI input and output? I guess this still depends on the firmware to decode any input sources

            • @I know nothing: Yes some monitors will have a HDMI out to loop out to another monitor.

I did find an instruction manual with FAQ's and it is definitely an input not an output.

              • @Sancho123456:

Yes some monitors will have a HDMI out to loop out to another monitor.

                What monitor is that?
There's monitors with DisplayPort MST support that lets you connect a second monitor to the first, but I haven't heard of an HDMI computer monitor equivalent. It's common on camera video monitors though.

In this case it's definitely a HDMI input. You can read the label on page 4 of the setup guide.

                • @eug: I've used Samsung commercial displays at work that have HDMI out.

                  • -1

@Sancho123456: OK, but we were talking about computers monitors here.

  • +2

The link NDjokovic provided from the telecomshop states it includes a display:

    FEATURES
    • 27-inch screen and full 1080p60 video display

But this description sounds like it's a dock.

    What is the product?

  • +3

So many people jumping on this without reading what it actually includes…

    As per the description:
"Inc (includes) Desk/tabletop Stand, 27"led Display, Audio Sys, Po"

If you check the model number on Google, it's clearly a kit that includes the monitor (monitor has HDMI)

  • I'm interested, even if it is just a stand. But the description is very vague, is it Vesa and if yes is it 75 x 75 or 100 x 100 or proprietary?

  • +1
    • Commercial VC equipment is stupid expensive. I'm assuming that Polycom has ceased this model or found some major issue with it hence the fire sale.

You should see the price of a group series codec, which still needs to be added to this kit for it to work for video conferencing.

  • +3

It appears to include a monitor, BUT the low price is strange. I assume the display can only be used with some specific hardware that is no longer available or scheduled to be phased out soon. Here is a video showcasing the whole thing: https://www.dekom.com/en/video-conferencing/product/polycom-…

    • +1

Spot on. In guessing it's either been a massive failure or has some decent issues (or both), hence why the cheap price. My biggest concern is that it might have some proprietary crap on it that stops the use of different HDMI sources. But as a gambler I'm willing to roll the dice.

      • In guessing it's either been a massive failure or has some decent issues (or both), hence why the cheap price.

It was released 7 years ago and has since been discontinued. I guess in the world of expensive proprietary systems, that makes new stock worthless. It does seem unusually cheap though.

  • so you really think you'll get it for $18 with the display…. so vocally confident.

    • How did you come to that conclusion? The low number of upvotes shows people aren't confident.

      • talking to the hopefuls.

  • Normally these type of systems, you have to registered with the Video Conference servers to use it properly . Otherwise getting dust in the corners

    • +1

I don't think anyone's interested in the video conferencing system at all, it's the 27" monitor that people are interested in.

      • The software is imbedded in the system and when you turn on the system . It asks you to registered with server . Normally you have to click on the icon to activate the attached video unit via HDMI. Please read on page 10 for info https://www.poly.com/content/dam/www/products/support/video/…

        • +1

that is if you have installed the codec which is NOT included with this monitor. Pg5 shows the codec installation

        • +1

As EricWong mentions, the software is in the codec unit and not the monitor. You can see the HDMI input on the monitor here.

          • @eug: Doesn't look like VESA, so will have to use the included stand (if they send the monitor).
I'm so confused by this deal.

            • +1

@wetwork: Yup, but with the number of screw mounts there it should be easy to screw in a sheet of metal or even a piece of wood to make your own VESA adaptor.

              • @eug: Yeah good idea - I did that w ith an old monitor that wasn't vesa. But I'm not wanting this unless they send a monitor.

  • $41 shipped to Victoria, still a lot to waste if its a paper weight.

  • $14.20 with $17.95 shipping to Vic from Megabuy ($32.15 total for a 1920x1080 27" 60mhz display)
    https://www.megabuy.com.au/polycom-realpresence-group-conven…

(edit: + 1.5% Paypal/Visa/MC Surcharge, haven't bought from them for a while, forgot)

    Thanks OP , bought 1

    • Obviously, you haven't heard of the Megabuy reputation. Well, only one way to find out. Although this is another topic altogether.

      • No, I OZB lurk very attentively and well aware of the Megabuy negs. I've bought from them before and no probs, for 32 bucks, I don't care if there is a prob. It's the cost of bargain. Like the Kogan and Kogan support negs - I've had nothing but a great year buying low cost items from them and their support replaced a keyboard twice because the carriers lost them. Risk Vs reward

(edit:I support your warning comment, it's a decent thing to do when the retailer has a reasonable number of negs and some people may not be aware. TY)

The RealPresence Group Convene media center is designed as a videoconferencing display for the RealPresence Group Series and does not support the direct connection of other video inputs. To use the display for displaying content input it would be necessary to use the RealPresence Group codec as the ‘input’ via a hardwired connection or via People+Content IP.

    source

    • That could mean you cannot connect other video inputs to the display because it only has one HDMI input. But who knows.
