Was about to pull the trigger on Hisense U8H (55") for around the ~$1000 mark. But this OLED seriously has me considering stretching the budget..

    • +10

Hope you didnt go by reviews for that Hisense.. AU models are gimped compared to US.

    • +5

Don't be fooled by Hisense reviews. They sell an inferior tv in Australia but has the same model number. Dodgy pricks.

  • +1

Ordered this from JB on Christmas Eve, cancelled it on Boxing Day to go with TGG because it was $100 cheaper, and now two days later it's another $100 cheaper.

At this rate they'll be free by the end of February.

Great TV BTW, as someone new to OLEDs the picture is incredible.

  • The CS would be a decent upgrade from the C8 I assume? I'm lacking VRR, 1440p and 4K@120Hz

    • Depends if you play games. If you don't, probably the higher brightness and better processor would be the best thing about it.

      • That's the thing. I have a PS5, XSX and PC with an RTX3080, so I'm missing out on some cool functionality :)

        • On PS5 God of War Ragnarok is very awesome with VRR at 120Hz. The reason it can run at such a high frame rate is because it's a cross gen title though, and I doubt we'll be seeing many, or any, games that will run like that moving forward. (On the consoles.)

That said, it would still be a good upgrade. VRR is pretty great.

  • Makes me wonder when 77" would be around 3k

    • keep dreaming.

      • Mate, I would like to have a word with you in 2024 ;-)

Seriously though, until now LG was the only OLED panel manufacturer supplying to Hisense, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and Vizio etc. But with Samsung also manufacturing their own QD-OLED panels, competition is only going get fierce and not to mention competition from some good mini LED TVs. I would only expect prices to keep coming down.

    • +2

Keep an eye out for LG spin to win competition, I spun 40% off and got the C2 77' for $3645.

Not sure how often they do it but I think there was one in November and then December.

  • I can’t believe how much the price on these puppies has dropped in less than 18 months. Wouldn’t trade a day I’ve had with my CX despite the higher price, but excellent to see these becoming more accessible. I see a 77 inch in my future! 😉

    • +3

      There were always over priced.

  • +4

Peope are trying to sell their old used and abused OLEDs for more than this

  • +1

    Hurts seeing this as a c1 owner i bought at $3k :(

    • I bought a C7 at $4k! Albeit over 5 years ago

  • Anyone know if ebay gift cards purchased via shopback can be used for this? 2.5% cashback on those.

    • Yeah can be used. I’m tempted to buy gift card. Will offset delivery fee

  • How does this compares to C1, CX and C2 ??

    • +3

      It's a C1 panel with C2 internals.

      • Sooooooooo, breddy gud?

      • Is there a huge difference in C1 and C2 panels ?

        • +3

Not really. It is a single digit improvement from c1 to c2 panels.

  • +4

not sure why anyone would hesitate on these or even ask questions. I have the C7 from 2017. It craps on images from all current other non OLED TV's. The viewing angles are amazing, I can sit and watch from an extreme angle with little to no loss in colour and quality at all. This TV is better than the C7 as things moved on somewhat and I would buy another one myself for other room except right now if I did that, wife would kill me so I have to wait :-(

    • -2

I can sit and watch from an extreme angle

But why tho? 🤔 It's like buying a Fischer Space pen so it's possible to write upside down…just because you can, doesn't mean you should or it's better?

right now if I did that, wife would kill me so I have to wait :-(

Got kids? Just get them to break your current one 😂

      • Got kids? Just get them to break your current one 😂

Why not friends from OzBargain ?

      • +5

Lol, well I would like to replace my 15 year old Pioneer Kuro Plasma with one but I guess I wait.

As for viewing angles there are circumstances when it comes in handy especially when 5+ people would like to watch the TV in the lounge. Just had 11 people for example and we were all able to see the screen even though I sat at an extreme angle which wouldn't be possible to almost all of the LED/LCD/QLED etc TV's out there. IPS panel TV's would give the best viewing angle but they still degrade fast after 45 degrees.

    • Totally agree My B7 from over 5 years ago is fantastic. The clearest picture I have ever seen including newer TVs even on FTA

  • Good deal

  • So after buying a ps5 i have to ask:
    Auto low latency mode?
    10 bit hdr full rate?
    VRR?

Because I'm peeved my not very old lg oled doesn't even do hdr with ps5 (the other features i understand are new tho)

    • Which model is it? I have a C8 and it does HDR on the PS5. I just can't do 1440p, VRR or 4k @ 120Hz

      • B7

        • Weird, I thought that should work

          • @chromium: I get 4k non hdr, that's it

            • +1

@justtoreply: B7 has HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Something is wrong with your setup. Possibly an old AV Receiver? You may also need to make sure you have HDMI ultra deep colour enabled.

  • looks like Cheddar has 3% cashback

  • Bought the 65 inch on Catch for 2108 and with free shipping on Boxing Day but a good price, regardless!

    • How'd you get it that low? Shows as 2699 right now

      • +1

It was sold on Catch via Appliance Giant for 2292 AUD and I used the 8% off for Catch Gift cards on giftcardexchange which brought it down to 2108.64 AUD incl. shipping.

      • +3

There are a couple of dodgy sellers on Catch of the Day

  • +5

For some context (based on youtube videos on people with good information) LG manufactured more panels than they should have. With the economy as it is they haven't sold as much as they anticipated.

Basically next year's model will be very similar to the C2 (their new tech has issues). This is an amazing deal and I am shocked how far the CS has dropped considering it isn't that much worse than the C2 (much heavier though). I am happy I swapped my C2 for an A95K for not much more. Would have felt sad to keep it when the CS is such amazing value.

    • Which has better picture quality … C2 or A95K ?

      • +4

At first I couldn’t tell and once I set the picture mode to custom and the colour profile expert 1 I was wow’d.

Me, my partner and a mate who have seen both said the A95K blows it out of the water. Just white alone. My C2 had an issue of a pink tint on the left and greenish in the middle. A95K is pure white. Colours REALLY pop and in general it just makes TV watching way more enjoyable than the C2.

I got the A95K for $4001 and returned the $3309 C2 (kept the $450) in vouchers. I’d say for $1000-$1200 difference it is worth it. More than that and it’s a harder sell

        • They still have pink tint issues? I returned a C7 for that after a long fight with LG trying to tell me they couldn't see it lol

          • @chromium: I went to JBHIFI. They made me contact LG for them to confirm it (within the return period). LG messed me around with a technician to “fix it” when I said just verify. Then they tell me if they don’t fix it and don’t verify it i might have to pay.

In the end the manager at JBHIFI just refunded it since it was clear as day and LG support was just trash

Edit: the pink tint was bad but I didn’t even realise the rest was greenish. White just wasn’t white. The C2 gaslit me into believing I just didn’t know what white was 🤣

            • +1

@jennytools36: This is why I just can't bring myself to buy lg again. Had a similar experience with a mobile phone and they were crap to deal with. Prob for the extra difference would go Sony just to save hassle in case of having an issue

        • Now, you have confused me 😁

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: Depends how much you want to spend 😉. The A95K is currently on special for $4995

Does JB or GG Instore ever price match an eBay plus deal?

    • -1

My local HN has one in stock, going to ask them tomorrow. Don't like my chances…

    • They price matched their eBay deal for me on Boxing Day. I went in this morning and they refunded me the savings of this deal.

    • I called GG, and they price matched it for me

  • This is low, I've never seen OLED this low…so tempting…but my BX is still going strong…bought!

    • -1

I've never seen OLED this low

Philips have been lower, eg. this crazy deal, they use LG panels and add Ambilight :)
They're my go-to for regularly half price OLEDs. But these LG CS markdowns are very surprising.

      • +1

I've been using my 55 BX as a PC monitor (and ps5/xboxsx) for almost 2yrs now logged 6000hrs on it still working flawlessly, wouldn't really touch a philips OLED since they've officially dropped support for AU with their TVs.

        • they've officially dropped support for AU with their TVs.

Not true because they're brought here by Philips TV & AVA (now sold by Amazon AU) and officially imported for Harvey Norman, with the expected Australia-specific warranty info and power cable in the box. Amazon AU and HN don't parallel import stuff.

Quality of the panel doesn't differ from what you find in an LG OLED, and I'm not certain of specifics but there's a chance Philips use better integrated power supplies and don't quickly break like some LG OLEDs still do.

  • Hm.. i leave the nba on in the background whilst working for long hours. High risk of burn in? should i avoid this tv?

  • +3

The 55 is $1395 shipped (depending on location) from Powerland.

    PLUSFLASH4

Shocked how quick new OLEDs have dropped this year. Still have FB sellers trying to flog their old OLEDs for more!

  • +2

It is just me or has The good guys now removed click and collect option from their ebay store? Where I'd normally select "click and collect" it just says: "item does not post to you"

  • any idea if the LG G2 will get back to black friday prices anytime soon?

  • And yet the 42" is still $2300…

    • +1

42" C2 is $1440 from powerlandau on ebay, but not an amazing deal when it was like $1200 recently on BF and the 55" CS is cheaper at $1395.

  • How is the warranty with image retention on this model?

  • Can anybody comment if this TV model is compatible with Google TV? The Specification for this TV notes that it has Smart TV Platform: webOS 22 Smart TV…. and I am wondering if I can download and install Apps found on the Play Store, or just limited by the WebOS store (if there is such a thing). Thank you

    • +1

WebOS is its own platform. So you are limited to its very selective level of WebOS apps in its "store". A lot of the streaming services are on there (but not all).

      • Thank you very much! Yes, I was thinking this may be the case. I had a Sharp TV years ago with WebOS that was not being updated and YouTube after a few years stopped being supported by the TV, so I had to buy Google Chromecast. Is there a way that I can check if a particular App is available on the WebOS platform? Cheers

    • If you want an Android OLED get a Philips, they use the same panels as LG.

    • Get a Chromecast

  • Through Shopback the ebay gift card limit is $1000, Could I buy 2x $1000 and 1x $201.5(including the $55 shipping) gift cards and use all three to buy the 65" and get 2.5% cashback from that or is there a limit to the number of gift cards on each transaction?

I do not want to get stuck with $1000 of ebay gift cards obviously

    • +3

Don't make the same mistake I did. eBay limits you to redeeming $1500. So now I'm stuck with a $500 card lol

    • +1

You'd have to call GG, price match from the eBay store, they'll email and text you the invoice, then pay with gift cards in-store. 2 cards is the max limit on GG site

  • Anyone interested in 77” A80K- Sony have them listed at $5488. Not eBay but brand new

  • Can I use 2 ebay gift cards for this purchase together with the PLUSFLASH4 code? Shopback ebay gift card is $1000 max so I'd need to buy a $1000 and a $400

    Powerland ebay store $1394.10 shipped.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185704955760

Ends up costing $1394.10-2.5%=$1359.25 shipped (after cashback).

  • 95.5% eBay feedback rating is getting into AliExpress quality!

  • Called up local GG but they couldn't price match :( Said it was an ebay only sale.
Will wait for a while more and hopefully these will be even lower by March-April

  • Harvey Norman did 4020 delivered for 77"

  • Ordered Wed night and Powerland delivered today Friday, will install over the weekend.

    • Didn't foresee this problem but I now have the CS and BX both in the same room and cannot separate the remotes…but the CS is awesome!
