    Needs eBay plus I assume?

  • Are the new i7/i9's better value to performance?

    • Depends on if you want ddr5, if you compare a ddr5 board these have really good value, but the i7’s/i9’s can use ddr4 and a cheap mobo

Depends on your need. For gaming, even i5 13600k can beat or match R9 so Intel is the pick without doubt. For productivity, it's 50/50 depending on the type of task.

I choose the R7 as it runs cooler, even more so in eco mode. I find Intel platforms more stable however they make so much heat/consume so much power these days - reminds me when AMD had the Athlon 1Ghz chip…

    • If am5 is anything like am4, the short answer to your question is "yes" , but the long answer is "perhaps not".

Because anyone who bought an am4 board years ago can run all the way to the ends of the 5000 series with a bios update.

Intel are more likely to move sockets, adding cost to upgrades in a few years time.

Also, "E Cores" that Intel uses, have been known to cause crashes with any early DX7-9 games. Odds of old games getting patches is low, so if you like to play the classics, amd might be smarter.

Lots of ifs and buts in this one….

  • This or i need to wait without a computer for 3D?

      wut

      • There will be 7900X3D released later, which is expected to have a significant performance boost over these just like the 5800X3D.

        • Ahhh 3D cache. I thought he was wanting to upgrade to 3D games lol

    • Do you mean X3D? We're expecting announcements of up to three X3D models for this generation in just nine days' time (on the 6th, at CES), with rumoured availability towards the end of the month. Personally I'd be really surprised AMD might have been able to move the launch date forward so far and so quickly, as we were originally talking Q2? By next Friday we should know one way or the other anyway.

This time around we're talking about an X3D variant of the flagship product, with overclocking enabled to boot, making for an incredibly compelling platform, price notwithstanding for those who can't afford to get in on the game, of course.

    • Probably just wait till after CES at this point, these prices are decent but you're still going to be paying a lot for the motherboard.

  • On your experience how long does it take for an AMD to be available to purchase after announcment? I'm completely new to AMD ecosystem

    • Supposedly (according to leaked slides) the non-X SKUs will be launching mid January. I haven't seen any leaks about the X3D release date other than rumours of it being early 2023.
