      Everytime someone posts a Heymix deal there's always someone who says that they bought chargers and they are fine. And that makes sense. If all of their chargers were rubbish then they would be out of business.

      But keep in mind that the reports aren't just people causing trouble for no reason. Myself and many others have bought Heymix chargers and had them catch fire. Even if it's only 0.001% of the chargers doing it, that's still many people who are at risk due to dodgy chargers. Fortunately I haven't yet heard of any really bad issues due to these products but there has been major issues with similar poorly made products from other companies that resulted in deaths.

      So I am glad that you haven't encountered a problem yet but, is it really worth the risk?

        I think they started out good and then when it picked up they changed to shoddy manufacturing. I got 2 about a year before all the fire comments started appearing on Ozb and it's been fine

        I returned my Heymix charger as it was making whining noises and charging at high power would start and stop.

        But the thing is, problems also happen with reputable brands like Anker. e.g.

        The charger blew up after 3 uses. It got extremely hot when charging Go Pro batteries and an Apple Watch (both at the same time) and eventually blew up (we heard a loud mini explosion sound) and stopped working.

        Plugged in the charger and sparks came out of it, then a puff of smoke and it tripped the circuit breaker in the fuse box! Dangerous and disappointing.

        Plugged unit in and was met by an immediate shower or sparks, very lucky it didn't burn my house down.

        *I like Ankr products but this unit shorted out the first time I turned the power on (could smell it too) and the unit is now dead.

        I just purchased this product today in addition to Anker lightning cables. I plugged the lightning cable into my usual wall plug to charge the power bank. Good thing I was in the room because after less than 10 minutes, it started smoking.

        Has this product for about 6 months. Stopped working at after the first charge and yesterday caught fire!
        Glad we were home, this could have started the house on fire!

        I think if you just focus on the negative comments, you'll never buy anything. You have to take the positive comments into account too, and remember that people who have no problems are less likely to bother leaving a positive review as the item just works.

        Personally if the price difference isn't large I'd go for a different brand as it does seem like Heymix has a QC problem, although there might just be a more vocal minority here.

          @eug: If you narrow it to a smaller sample set of users - Ozbargainers - it looks something like this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12887847/redir . You can also look at the comment by the user who disassembled a powerboard.

          That particular charger you've used as an example may be one to avoid. Though, of interest there don't seem to be many complaints posted about Anker by Ozbargainers.

            Yup, the problem is you don't see the people who have no issues with their chargers. I have friends with Heymix chargers and they never talk about it because it's an extremely boring product that just works.

            You could say more OzBers buy cheaper brands like Heymix than more expensive brands like Anker. :)

            If Heymix has a 1% defect rate and 10,000 are sold, there will be 100 dissatisfied buyers, a percentage of which will post about it on OzB.

            If Anker has a 1% defect rate and 2,000 are sold as they're more expensive, there will only be 20 dissatisfied buyers so you'll see far fewer complaints. But the defect rate could be the same.

            That was just a made-up example; it really does feel like Heymix has a higher defect rate than Anker - but we can't draw a definitive conclusion based on the limited information we have. I would expect bigger brands to use higher quality components, although that's not always the case.

              Looking at review quantities it does seem that Heymix is more popular locally. Anker is however sold globally, so going to Amazon US, you can see thousands of reviews for the region specific versions of their products.

              When you look at the reviews/comments for various Heymix products, the alleged issues are more concerning eg: 120vac on the USB ground, tingles, car charger catching fire, likely missing functionality on power boards, etc.

              But agreed, we can’t definitively say for sure. For me, what we do have suggests they should be avoided.

              Looking at your linked reviews also makes a strong case for first-party chargers.

              I would expect bigger brands to use higher quality components, although that's not always the case

              Ditto. Ideally chargers should have reviews with tear downs, design, components, measurements. For first party chargers and more popular brands, these exist for some models.Though obviously that doesn’t help if there are revisions.

              Some users with their basic power testers checking voltage/amps think that is sufficient but that’s only one scenario and doesn’t account for degradation if cheaper components are used.

  has built in E marker so should charge over 60W , unlike cables without inbuilt E marker chip, only does 480mbps ….so no video,preddy much charge cable and usb 2 data.

      You'd likely need a USB-C power tester. It's not something you'd generally need to worry about if you're buying from reputable brands or products with a decent number of reviews.

    i have their cable and chargers, never had a problem, not sure why other people do.

    to get 100w charge you need E chip and the right wire thickness …..not sure what people are charging above 60w ….

      Every product has a certain number with issues. Heymix just appears to have a higher rate than other brands based on what i've seen on Ozbargain and Amazon. I've had issues products from much better/established brands - Samsung, Microsoft, Apple, Logitech, Asus.

      Are faulty products really that difficult to understand?
