Amazon Delivery Times - Prime delivery 22 Days from today??

I made an order before Christmas of a frypan, in stock, which still not even shipped. I thought a bit strange but oh well holidays and stuff. But then today I ordered some containers and didn't really pay attention until order confirmation email shows Jan 24th - 22 days away??

What happened to Amazon?? Are other people seeing this? I'm regional but prior when actual 2 day shipping was a thing would have that happen most times.

No weather conditions. The items just aren't shipping. I contacted support about the frypan ordered before Christmas Dec 20 why it hasn't even shipped yet and was told "you will receive an email when the items ships" and nothing they could do.

Why aren't they shipping if its regional lol. Like if you ordered they'd have to ship the next day to get there then? Why not ship to me the next day and it take a couple days the same : /. Literally shat on for being regional wtf.

          • @deelaroo: Issue might not be with amazon.

They could ship it next day but gets held up because the transport to your regional area is only once a week or something? It is just an estimate and it will change as things progress.

They are price matching woolies btw

            • @CodeXD: Yes had cancelled and bought at Woolies locally but thanks!

        • Same here, 5th jan for Melb

      • it depends on what you order i guess, some items i have looked at lately had a couple of weeks delivery time, but that being said, i have ordered about 10 things over the last 2-3 weeks and every item has either been 2 or 3 days, mostly 2

      • "No weather conditions. The items just aren't shipping."

Most likely items are backed up at the warehouse waiting to be processed/shipped.

I have read comments from people working at Amazon AU explaining this. Especially during BF/Xmas time they have and endless amount of way too many packages and struggle to get through them everyday.

e.g. with limited staff the processing speed stays constant, but the amount of orders just keeps growing.

        • Ive bought one item now marked Jan 24th delivery the same, I'll see how long this one takes to ship. But from comment above about expected Jan 5th for them it seems for regional customers Amazon AU are shipping later?

          • @deelaroo: Yeah many things can affect it I can't speak for your particular case.

For example I have had packages slow to ship because they are coming from the otherside of the country. I have also had packages slow to ship because I ordered a few things before and after which were close in order date. I imagine if you do this they try to "bunch" items together for delivery, e.g. some items will stay put until things line up and they can deliver them all at once (a decision made by the system not the staff), even if they come in different boxes. I live close to the city and I have this happen occasionally.

I imagine the further away you are from a major city, the more likely they will bunch them together and deliver them together on the same day. Which is usually aligned with the "last" item you ordered. Kind of frustrating if some items don't meet the estimate, but at the same time it makes sense to be economical during peak shopping periods.

Just trying to explain there is a process going on. Every package is going through the same process and at the end of the day it just needs to get through the system.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: If ordered together in a cart it usually asks you if you would like to receive the fastest shipping or the least amount of shipments…
Ordered separately I always get more than one driver even if on the same day.

              • @dasher86: Yeah I get that but sometimes it seems Amazon system has a mind of it's own. I can order multiple items and have them arrive in a different way to what I requested.

Also one time I had a delivery person pick up a box of toilet paper which I assume was not meant to be "on it's way" yet. I think there was probably a mark on it saying "don't deliver yet" but someone loaded it into their car by mistake.
Basically what happened was tracking showed "it's arriving today" but then there was no attempt at delivery I was able to see on my doorbell video, and then the tracking changed to "attempted/delayed".
So seemed like the driver noticed the mark on the box and they didn't want to make a mistake so they took it back to the warehouse without even heading in my direction. Then the next day it was "arriving today" again but together with 2 other items. They were all left by a single driver.

          • @deelaroo: "But from comment above about expected Jan 5th for them it seems for regional customers Amazon AU are shipping later?"

Yes maybe regional packages are in a different queue to be processed I'm not sure.

I have been caught in these unusually big delays before as well, maybe 2 or 3 months ago not even during a peak shopping period. Started Prime, ordered something and it took more than a week to arrive. My guess would be just an unexpected back up or orders (unexpected flood of orders).

      • My delivery time varies. If it shipped to street address, it will be 5 January. If it shipped to nearest parcel point which is in the same street, 3 min walk - it will be 13 January.

      • Not sure if it's your liking, I love Kmart glass one. Link here.

      • 20th January for me, 29th is 'fastest'. metro postcode
        .

  • If it's 22 days away then they probably don't have stock yet in their local warehouse. Happens all the time with Amazon. If you're not happy just cancel the order, you'll get a refund.

If the frypan had a delivery date prior to Christmas have you contacted Amazon yet? They're usually pretty quick with sorting things out that are late.

    • Might be it with the delivery times I guess, doesn't change it used to be two days they'd express things if they had to, now this? I can't wait almost a month for items like a drink container lol.

Yes two days ago contacted. Nothing changed. But understand it is new years. It was going to buy something else and seeing this huge expected delivery time.

    • Definitely last mile issues with the 22 day projected. Tried metro addresses in 3 cities and get ETA of 4/1-5/1 on the containers.

  • Bit of a mixed bag at the moment, currently have one order with an ETA of 30th January. Order was placed 3 days ago. What's interesting is this was a short dated product, so cheap…. but ETA means it'll barely be in date still….

Most orders still averaging about 2-3 days.

You always have to check the delivery date before ordering.

  • Fulfilment>distro>metro (within flex network) 24-48hrs

Fulfilment>distro>regional (last mile carrier ie. Aramex/CP) is where the delay occurs. They often overstate the delay due to lack of integration.

Supplier>fulfilment (varying delays due to lack of transport)

    Just how "regional" are you?
Melbourne network has a very small catchment compared to Sydney.

    • Just how "regional" are you?

East Gippsland. But prior address I have on account middle of Traralgon is Jan 22nd even. It really seems the delay is Amazon just not shipping until later for regional. The distribution network from when Amazon ships is generally pretty quick, arriving Morwell sorting a day or two and usually to local the following day. Last step is just the Aus Post contractor and timely. Like a couple years ago I could get Prime delivery in 2-3 days easily.

      • Strange..not that far out.
Not sure how they're moving from fulfillment/supplier to auspost sorting at morwell these days .
Lack of demand out there maybe?

Any parcel lockers/pickup point options available?

Vaguely remember those sort of delivery times to Bairnsdale pre Amazon.

        • -1

Any parcel lockers/pickup point options available?

No. Its actually a joke when I've dealt with Amazon for returns for them to use their "pickup points" and closest will be some Melbourne suburb 3 hours away.

  • I'm in metro area and have noticed the longer delivery times i.e approx 3-5 days longer. I just assumed it was due to the holidays. 22 days is a long time for Amazon Prime though

  • Sounds about right. I ordered something last night (sold and shipped Amazon AU) and estimated delivery with Prime is 20th Jan.

    It is what it is.

  • Its only an "estimate", you will absolutely get it before then but they are just playing on the safe side. I ordered an item on 26th December. Estimated delivery is Febuary 23rd. It arrived in my state this morning. I have had this happen numerous times and Amazon Customer service has assured me I will receive it before the date specified and I always have…

Wait till it ships and put the tracking number into Aus Post, I just did for my "late February delivery". Delivery is expected 08 January - 11 January.

    • Item ordered Dec 20th hasn't even shipped still so idn about that.

  • I managed to pick up a frypan at my local retailer the same day. #winning.

  • I'm regional too (4 hours north of Sydney) showing as 18 January for me.

  • It's the last mile carrier.
My usual Amazon orders are always max 2 days, as there as a Amazon flex warehouse locally for distro

But during busy season some of my orders have gone via aus post, fastrack or couriers please , which have all had longer delivery estimates due to the less guaranteed timeframe for their pickup and delivery networks.

    • Looks like East Gippsland is Auspost all the way.. probably explains the peak period delays..

    31 Jan for Perth (prime).

Mind you, my last delivery was several weeks before the promised date.

  • I bought some baby formula that was next day delivery 30th December. Now it's showing me expected by 16th Jan, f'n annoying as I'm now down to my last tin

  • They must have changed over to fastway/aramex.

How a “courier” can be slower than auspost is beyond me- what’s the point of using a courier service if there is no benefit!

    • Its Auspost the whole way except technically the van driver doing deliveries from the local PO is a contractor I believe but there's never any delay there.

Having moved back from the UK where next day and even same day is standard it's like stepping back to the dark ages in Oz. I get distance is an issue being here in the west and population isn't huge but weeks to get something delivered is embarrassing for a modern country. I get stuff quicker from china everytime so go figure.

  • Exactly my experience too, an hour out of Perth, ordered prime item in stock beginning of December, had an estimated delivery of 5th Feb . To be fair Amazon dispatch was within a couple of days, then Australia Post was dragging their feet. Item was sitting in Perth distribution center for a week before delivery. In the UK i could order at 10pm at night and get it the next day and i was living “rural” there as well.

Do they even have a warehouse in WA?

    • They have one in Jandakot, never noticed it before then one day I was like holy crap, no wonder I get (some of) my stuff quick

      • I don't think the Jandakot warehouse is in operation yet, but they have a warehouse near Perth airport.

So yeh if it's in stock in WA warehouse it's usually next day or 2 day. From eastern states ETA is usually 3 weeks now (but generally arrives before).

It's the wait times before it ships that sh!ts me.. Many orders are taking like a week before it ships, then the wait for Auspost (which admittedly isn't too bad for them these days) or if you're really unlucky Aramex. Change destination to Sydney or Melbourne and delivery is next day so there is stock available. Definitely not the Prime service of past…

  • Hastings, VIC. Amazon Prime. I've been getting deliveries up to a week earlier than promised. I got one last Wed that was promised for today. Same before Christmas I was getting deliveries early and not just from Amazon. From a place in Sydney: ordered 12 Dec received by post 19 Dec. From my perspective I see them promising later and then delivering early. What's not to like?

    • What's not to like?

      • When Amazon AU lauched Prime shipping was 2-3 days even to regional areas.
      • It appears they are purposefully delaying shipping just to regional areas.
      • The convenience of online shopping is mostly eroded when you have to wait weeks.
    • If I even got my Amazon orders in a week it wouldn't be so bad. Sure they are saying 3 weeks ETA (for non WA warehouse stock) and usually it arrives before but it's supposed to be Prime fast delivery. Before they had a WA warehouse and everything came from the east, pretty much everything came via Express Post and would have it within 2 or 3 days.

Nowadays, place an order, wait a few days at least before it ships, then wait for Auspost Parcel Post. Even ordering from Aliexpress with their fast shipping I'm getting some stuff faster than Amazon.

  • Having read your comments about it used to be a few days, and they are confirming to you now it still hasn't shipped (you will receive an email when it ships) then it sounds to me like while there may or may not also be delays with couriers - Amazon is choosing to not ship to you on purpose because it knows it will loose money (must cost them more than $6 to ship the $6 item) so it is setting stupid dates to encourage you to not shop or to cancel your orders.
Out of interest, if you go incognito or private browsing as a new user and try to buy say 10 does it still show that date? I'm wondering if they just don't want to ship to your postcode, or if it is account specific based on your order history.

  • Their Flex workers are on leave. They sent something via CouriersPlease 2 weeks ago. I think they lost it. CouriersPlease are awful. You can't even call them.

  • Ordered a kindle on 29th, meant to have been delivered via Amazon Flex on the 31st, still waiting..

Seems like they're lacking flex drivers and customer service is absolutely useless.

    • I agree they are late, but I will say when I contact their customer service, after giving you the normal "it's on its way" spiel, if you push for an outcome, they will come to the party.

After CouriersPlease lost my monitor, they replaced it very quickly. CouriersPlease are shocking.

  • I'm regional (but only an hour from a major regional city) and normal delivery times used to be 2-5 business days, probably averaging about 3 days, with pretty much all items shipped the day after ordering.

Leading up to Christmas, 3/4 of what I ordered locally (i.e. not Amazon US) took 2-3 weeks, with 3-4 days before items were even shipped, and the rest of the delay being Aramex or Auspost.

Post Christmas, it's been much much worse. I've got over a dozen orders placed on or shortly after Christmas day, and only two of them have even left the warehouse (and only in the last day). Clearly Amazon don't have nearly enough staff in their warehouses at the moment.

Amazon used to be my go to for fast delivery times, but they're the slowest of any Australian business right now, by far. If I can help it I won't be ordering anything from them for at least a few weeks.

  • Merged from Amazon AU delivery times blowout?

Just wondering if it's just me and what we're buying… Leading up to Xmas everything was fast delivery mid December that I finally signed up to Amazon prime trial to buy a router.

Recently everything small on Amazon au we neeed when I ordered before Nye had ridiculously long estimated times e.g. anywhere from early or mid Jan through to ,27 Feb.

I ordered a pack of Bic pens and the seller and supplier are Amazon AU on 31/12 and it shipped on 12th Jan according to the order tracking. Estimated delivery 27 Feb?

Normally bits and bobs are fast delivery but even with prime everything seems weeks to a month out. I know up north in WA there's flooding but is there something I'm missing causing this massive blowout?? Or coincidentally are all our items just long lead items ? Perth based. But in past I swear the items came a day or two or even at the earliest part of their date range. All the mid Jan to Feb time bands given evended up updating with end of of Feb delivery dates?

Why even bother paying for prime when it's slowed than the old Aus post even?

Edit: all the Mrs iconic and other packages continue to arrive like no tomorrow ? Seems Amazon specific?

    • All my stuff has been delivered same day or one day. No delays/issues at all. Ive noticed theres way more stuff being sold on amazon coming from overseas with long lead times though.

    • I get the usual next day or day after next day in Adelaide. The only time I get same day delivery is when I order something from Telstra.

  • 4 days delivery this week for a set of car mats. Prime and Couriers Please. Amazing.
