I have the Magic Keyboard … am I insane for wanting one of these too? Still salty that apple made a design where you can’t use the iPad MK folio style for when you want to sit back on a couch and draw/write out some quick notes

I love the idea of having the iPad with the Surface Pro-style kickstand as well as the case protection when you don't need to use the keyboard, since I don't trust myself with the naked tablet.

And at a third of the price of a Magic Keyboard, it was a no-brainer for me!

    • I got the Magic Keyboard too and I love it, very high quality. Quality is very high, it feels like a steel plate wrapped in sturdy rubber. Glass trackpad works great, keys feel like a real keyboard. But the price of it makes my eyes water even all these years later. It's enough to put me off upgrading the iPad Pro in case the new model doesn't fit the old keyboard.

Absolutely not crazy. The Logitech has use cases where it is better than the Magic Keyboard and vice versa.

I have both, although I picked up the Magic Keyboard used and had my Logitech refunded after a defect, so didn’t actually pay RRP for both.

Logitech is great when you want to use the kickstand without the keyboard, if you want a full function row (which the MK lacks), and if you have more extreme viewing angles you wish to use (with or without keyboard) than what the MK allows. Also much better to write on (with the Apple Pencil) than the MK.

The MK is much more portable so is my go-to when travelling or out in general, and is better on the lap. The Logitech works better on the couch (without keyboard), in the kitchen etc.

      • what was the defect?

        • Read further down in the comments, I and others have commented on it…

I had one of these, and really, really loved using it. Unfortunately the thin silicone protection was not enough for my clumsiness. I'm now using an Otterbox, but still a bit wistful about the Logitech.

      Removable keyboard was so cool.

I wish they'd make one with the same sort of protection as a heavier case. I don't mind the extra weight if it's going to prevent me from cracking the screen on my shiny new M1 iPad!

Got one of these, highly recommended. Feels premium and actually offers protection unlike the apple options

    • Got one too - used it for about 2-weeks and now it’s siting in my draw never being used.
      I found:
      * could only use keyboard/stand on a flat surface (which I am rarely around when on my iPad)
      * the USB-C opening too small, so struggled connecting charging and displays
      * otherwise ok
Surviving with a folio case now… previous had the Logitech Professional Portfolio Case which was perfect, but their new design is poor and doesn’t allow the iPad to be easily undocked from the keyboard which is such a key feature for an iPad case. Brydge was underwhelming too, especially for the premium…

  • Are these also compatible with the ipad air?

    • +2

Yes, although the camera cutout at the back is for the Pro so does look a little odd. If you don’t mind that, it fits just fine.

      • I have the same question, is that for the iPad Air 5th generation?

        • +2

All iPad Pro 11 cases, across all brands, will fit all 11 inch models (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022) and the iPad Air 4/5.

The iPad Air 4/5 and the iPad Pro 2018 only have a single camera, so will look a bit weird. Also, cases for these devices (the 2018 Pro, Air 4/5) won’t fit the newer iPad Pro models because they have smaller camera cutouts.

I think one of the biggest issue is that the Touch ID on the power button will not work. This will cover it.

      • +1

Ahh yep thanks! I think thats the main downside.

  • +4

The rubber near the speakers start rippling upward after a few months.

    • Can confirm. This is the same issue I had on mine.

    • +1

Same, I dont rate it. It's damn heavy too, $40 value product that you pay top dollar for because apple made it proprietary.

      • that said I don't rate ipad os either. Use my Ipad pro for Apex legends, youtube and occasionally a TV show, nothing more.

    • This is news to me as i have not had this issue yet. I will keep an eye out!

    • +1

Had the same issue, and Logitech offered me a full refund under warranty even though I purchased the product at JB Hi-Fi and not directly from Logitech.

If you do have this issue, it starts with the rubber bit fraying/bending outwards. Try to catch it at this point first, and grab a hairdryer and run it hot (not too hot) directly at the rubber, then whilst it’s still warm, bend it inwards. It will look ugly without an IPad in it, but once you place the iPad back it will sit perfect straight as the iPad will push it back.

Better it bend inwards than outwards, where it sticks out and looks ugly.

    • I agree.
This happened to me also and I got a replacement from Logitech.

I have avoided this so far with the new one by grabbing the iPad where the pen charges and there is no rubber there.

      • Just had a look at my case bought 10 months ago - just noticed the rippling. How long did it take to organise a replacement from Logitech via warranty? Guess I'll kick off the process before the 12 months runs out!

        • They were actually really good about it.
I got it within the week

    • Cut them off. Makes no difference and looks neater. You can find examples on the web.

Great keyboard/case, sister uses it for school.
This has an extra function key row (compared to iPad magic keyboard), big difference if you want audio, brightness, media, unlock/lock etc shortcuts.

FYI, not all time low for sand colour, was $150/$175 back in 02/22: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/685632

apple value is getting hammered and sentiment is very negative, expect discounting on ipads

    • omg hopefully it is really true. I’m looking to buy one and just waiting for the back to school promo

    • Tech shares in general are down out of supply fears. I doubt it will have any retail effect other than unavailability.

      • also demand fears due to rising cost of living

  • I've tried one of these cases for the 12.9 iPad and didn't like it. The area around the speaker is fairly rubbery and soft and it's actually the area I will hold the ipad in hand most of the time. I can't see it last long before permanantly deformed.

There is also a review with photo regarding the area I'm talking about in the review.

  • Whats everyone using the keyboard for? I'd like to buy one but I can't find good reasons why I'd need one aside from typing emails in the go.

    • Lots of things. Excel, word apps and Onedrive make this like a laptop. Emails are a breeze. Notes on OneNote.

Also really recommend the Apple Pencil too.

  • Have one and love it. With this and a Bluetooth mouse I can leave the laptop in the office when I am in the field. The touchpad is good for when i don’t have a mouse. Both this and the Apple Pencil transform the iPad completely.

I don’t have any issues with stretching around the port holes but have seen others that have simply cut this off with no problems.

    Highly recommended purchase.
