Hi all,

Thought I might share this one as I have been looking for a decent vehicle battery tester. I had not found any previous discussion around these on here and not many deals other than a eBay coupon for a TopDon battery tester.

After searching through eBay and Amazon and doing some light reading / watching YouTube comparisons I had decided on the ANCEL BST200 which is popular on eBay Australia and Amazon and well reviewed. However I would pay a little extra and go for the ANCEL BA301 which has a colour LCD display, much more decent quality clamps, and tests batteries in the 100 - 2000CCA range (BST200 tests 100 - 1100 CCA). The BA301 can also test the starter cranking and alternator charging.

Just before I was about to pull the trigger on the ANCEL BA301 I thought I would search around on AliExpress. Turns out the ANCEL BA301 is a direct rebrand of the KONNWEI KW650 (from what I can tell).

I was then able to find it on an AliExpress 'SuperDeal'.

I am certainly no expert on these. There may be better options out there. It seems like a good deal to me so I thought I would share to help out any others looking to pickup one of these tools.

  • So I use this to check if my battery needs to be replaced?

upvote for the info, but i use a multimeter to test my car battery.

      A multi-meter can't test a battery, only show you a batteries voltage.
You could argue the definition of 'test' but knowing the difference in electrical potential between 2 points is of limited use in understanding the condition of a battery.

        Yes
To reinforce the point, batteries have a false floating voltage at zero load, and thats what you measure when you use a multimeter. The voltage drops as you draw more current from the battery and the battery struggles to supply it.. and the average starter motor puts an incredible load on the battery. Much more than a kilowatt (albeit for a very very short time).

    Thanks OP.

This does everything but a load test. A load test makes sure a battery which talks the talk, can walk the walk. They're cheap enough from Bunnings.

Or you can do a quick and dirty load test, plenty of YT explainers for that, but make sure you have a jump starter battery or battery charger on hand.
