best ISP I've ever been with!

    • How many have you been with?

      • -2

from my very first dial up connection… about 7 or 8…

        • +5

So Launtel are better than dial up.

          Thanks…

    • even better than ABB and SL?

      • +2

I would say Yes. You have control to change your speed tier daily on my account portal and also you can lease a dedicated Static IP for just a $100 deposit which is fully refundable. Speeds are similar when I was on launtel on the HFC gigabit plan compared with ABB (890/45)

        • Wait, why is there a deposit for a static IP if it's fully refundable? Why not make it free?

          • @lightfoot: You could certainly ask their sales team why the static IP is lease only and why not free.

          • @lightfoot: I believe there is a reason for it, its basically reserving the IP for you and if you don't want it anymore (or leave) you get your money back - its a good deal compared to many ISP's that charge extra for a static IP and some that don't offer them at all unless you're on a business plan

          • +7

@lightfoot: We charge for the lease as IPv4 addresses are in short supply, so we want to make sure the customer really needs a real world routable address and felt that holding $100 as a refundable lease was the best way to balance this.

          • @lightfoot: Due to limited amount of IPv4 addresses, especially young ISPs struggle with securing enough for each of their customers. Having refundable deposit means it does not cost anything but only serious customers will buy it. If its free, too many customers will use it without any need and deplete launtel's pool.

But pay more for the privilege…

          • @jv: I am not sure about other plans, but when I am with ABB the gigabit plan is $149 a month. Launtel is around $10 cheaper, even if I keep the speed tier the same for the whole month.
Not sure what service are you comparing with.

            • +1

@cheersvb: he's not comparing to anything, he's just a (profanity)

            • @cheersvb: 50/20 Mbps (Opticomm/LBNCo) with Launtel is $3.50 per day which is $105.00 for a 30 day month. ABB are doing the same speed for $79.00 per month.

              • @elecpurch: they aren't good value for the lower speed plans, 400+ is where the value kicks in

              • @elecpurch: agree, for low-tier speed plans Launtel seems to be expensive.

for 250/25, they charge $122 per month. I'm currently paying $83.90

            • @cheersvb:

              Launtel is around $10 cheaper

Pretty much every plan I checked against, they are costing more.

      • never tried SL, but I have been with ABB and while they are a close second I much prefer Launtel, the daily billing and speed changes is great, they offer 400/50 which ABB don't last I checked (I don't need gigabit despite being able to have it, but if I needed it for 1 or 2 days i could easily get it) and after just recently moving houses I have to say I had the absolute best experience in moving an internet connection ever, it couldn't have been easier. Where as when I was on iinet and moved it was a bloody nightmare (FTTP to FTTP, you'd think that wouldn't be hard, but it was)

      • For the short period with them (~2 months, then back to ABB) I'm quite happy. I love their customer services and the fact that you can change plans daily (I assume this really should be the way how NBN wholesale works?) It's just that the pricing isn't competitive unless your plan exceeds 100/20mbps. The higher the speed the better deal it becomes.

    • +1

I can concur, they are hands down the best ISP I've been with and I've tried most of them in Aus (and UK). Excellent speeds, and their customer service is second to none

    • +1

Same. I moved from ABB to Launtel and they actually have better latency and routing both within Australia and overseas. Great for gaming. Slightly cheaper than the others with the daily rate. Very impressed with them so far.

    • I second this

    • I was with them briefly a few years ago. They use CGNAT so i couldn't remotely access my NAS, VPN or Home Assistant. Does anyone know if that's changed?

      • It has. you have to pay for a static ip though which means putting in a $100 depoist

  • +2

    Just offer some discount

  • +1

I've been with Launtel for years and feel they are the best I've ever been with! they have that Internode back in the day feel

  • So I pay $200 + Daily charges for the 1000/50 plan get the Pro 6 and I can cancel anytime? sounds like a pretty good deal!

    • +1

Yep, that's right - you can cancel at any time and keep the eero but would lose the $200 fee. You are not locked to 1000/50, rather the speed tiers above the minimum (250/25 for FTTC, 100/20 for FTTN).

      • I assume you get the single unit? not the 2 or 3 pack?

        • +1

Yeah that's correct it is a single unit Eero.

  • -1

Can i sign up but defer the start date by 5 years? :p

    • Technically yes, we could schedule an upgrade order 5 years deferred, but the eero is delivered after the nbn completes the upgrade process, so I doubt we would still have stock of the 200 free eero…

      • +1

Just having a whinge at my garbage 50Mbps max nbn. Wanting FTTP not because i need it but because i feel shortchanged by the ridiculous NBN that was rolled out

        • If it helps with expectations my suburb was in the second batch of those announced to be able to upgrade from FTTN to FTTP. Around 18 months later it's available to order. Current isp (iinet) unsurprisingly don't offer the upgrade (they've just been shit for years, but once they got a stable connection (took 18 months, numerous formal complaints, 2xTIO) I daredn't ask them to do anything as they'll undoubtedly screw it up. Superloop's website 500'd when I tried to sign up with them, various others wanted to move my FTTN to them straight away while waiting for FTTP installation and that sounded a recipe for disaster (iinet involvement). So went with ABB in end. Installation tomorrow. Hopefully.

          • @hotphil: If it helps, you can current more than 1 NBN connection concurrently if upgrading to FTTP

Recently completed FTTP upgrade from FTTN (TPG) to FTTP (Aussie). Had the two running side by side temporarily. There were a few issues with faulty NTD and incorrect NBN MAC addresses which caused some initial problems. Luckily I could fall back on FTTN internet connection. Otherwise I would be without internet.

            • @hoey888: Oh yep, FTTN not getting disconnected until I'm sure FTTP is working/stable. And depending on where the NTD gets installed I may need to get a cabler in, or some sort of bridge up and running first.

        • but because i feel shortchanged by the ridiculous NBN that was rolled out

Much of Australia would think likewise I assume (myself included), but we did vote for this nonsense (well, not me specifically but "we" did in in large numbers) even people who get FTTP now should feel aggrieved, as eventually they are likely to move ad they may not get it when they do.

          I use Launtel

  • -1

Yeah too expensive, not worth it.
You could go with another comlany and buy the erro with the money saved.
    Currently paying $80 for nbn250
    Save $40 each month

    • Good luck with whatever crap ISP this is with (sounds like TPG)

      • Nope, it's been great, have been mostly getting over 250, definitely better than Launtel

    • Which ISP is this? $80 for 250 is great price.

      • it was with More commbank offer, 12 month plan but think it has gone up to $90 now

  • Good deal for new customers who want a premium service.

    Why Launtel?
    1. Best customer service (comparing to Telstra, Optus, Aussie BB, Superloop, Exetel)
    2. Speed change
    3. Pause service if you're away
    4. Best customer service (sorry did I mentioned that already?)

OK IPSs all use the same NBN connection but points of difference for the average customer will be less congestion and help from local, friendly support staff. If that's not you then look elsewhere. Simple.

  • Can you pause the service for a week in this deal?

    • +1

Nope, can't pause during the 12 months as a pause is technically a disconnect order in nbn's eyes.

  • A couple of notes and questions
    1. There don't appear to be any "spare" ipv4 addresses available right now (so can't lease one for $100 refundable)
    Can rep confirm?
    2. https://residential.launtel.net.au/ is currently down.
(this is where the sign-in page lives)
    https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/residential.launtel.net.au.…
    Is this a regular occurrence?
    3. If we select the 1000 plan and get the eero pro, can we downgrade to 250 at a later date?

    • +1

      Hey great questions!

      1. We have spare ipv4 addresses at the moment & I was able to purchase one in my own account just now as a test. Are you receiving an error when trying to lease one?

      2. The residential portal is back up, we are investigating what caused the down time and at this point believe it was related to AWS. It is not a regular occurrence…

      3. For an upgrade from Fibre to the Node, the minimum you can change to is 100/20, if it's a Fibre to the Curb upgrade the lowest is 250/25 - The starting speed you choose doesn't affect the minimum speed you can downgrade to.

      • Thanks for the reply.
        1. I apologise, I need to read better, it stated, "You currently have no spare addresses available", I read it as "We currently have no spare addresses available", Doh!.

        Thanks, exceptional service, would recommend.

Fingers crossed we can get NBNco to push fibre under the road :)

  • Nice, I would have taken this up but NBN are dragging the chain on upgrading, despite seeing fibre rolling out physically around the place haha

  • Wanted to install your service at a house at the beach because we could turn the service on and off when we are not there. Instead now having to pay $70 a month plus power charges to Optus because BIL was upset his Telstra mobile did not work over Christmas. All he had to do was switch from 4G to 3G as nobody used that service and he would have been able to stream the cricket live.

  • I assume this offer is still available, but couldn't pick my equipment. I've submitted my order - when will I know which Eero I will be receiving? I signed up for 1000/50 (FastAF).
