    These are pretty good… Time to stock up.

        No, just for reading shitty replies….

    Thanks for sharing, haven’t had these before and unfortunately they have maltitol so won’t be trying now.. Very common for folks to have a gastric upset from maltitol intake (actually any artificial sweetener ending in -ol). Not sure why companies use it when sucralose tastes better and has no calories with no risk of gastric issues

    • +1

      Good point and thanks for sharing. Id assume it is the potency of Maltitol and cost effectiveness vs Sucralose.

      I'm not in the game of sweeteners but I empathise about not being able to consume something for health (being lactose intolerant i cant have Isos and use plant based)

    • +2

      use of sucralose at high temps has been questioned before… as a manufacturer you don't want the product to be dead by PR before it hits the shelves.

      most of the driving factors on these sorts of decisions are $ though.

      would be nice if people put stevia/monk fruit instead. then again $.

    • +1

      Sucralose has its own issues - I get severe acne from it

      • i don't have an immediate reaction but everything sucralose tastes sickly sweet (same with HFCS) to me so i avoid everything that has that in it.

    fwiw Reject shop is selling grenade protein bars for $1

    • +2

      Double the carbs at 23g ~ and double the cals at around 400Cals ~

      May be cheaper but for people actually looking for caloric options its not a good choice. Good find though.

        Sadly Muscle Nation Custard Protein Bars are not great either. A huge amount of the bar is maltitol.
        Not good for keto and misleading for everybody else as studies have shown that a large % breaks down and is absorbed in the small intestine.
        As a sugar alcohol, it does add to calorie intake without being accounted for in the nutritional panel.

        • +2

          If the nutritional panel is not correct then where is the source of truth and the law/guidelines? Surely this would be in conflict with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code – Standard 1.2.8 – Nutrition information requirements and the reporting requirements?

          Also not having a go - curious to see facts and science behind it so we can all learn from this rather spread information without basis.

            @newti: There is a lot of info on the web but here's a quick find…

            sugars:
            (a) in Standard 1.2.7, Standard 1.2.8 and Schedule 4 (except where it appears with an asterisk as ‘sugars’)—means monosaccharides and disaccharides; and
            (b) otherwise—means any of the following products, derived from any source:
            *(i) hexose monosaccharides and disaccharides, including dextrose, fructose, sucrose and lactose;
            (ii) starch hydrolysate;
            (iii) glucose syrups, maltodextrin and similar products;
            (iv) products derived at a sugar refinery, including brown sugar and molasses;
            (v) icing sugar;

            (f) raw sugar.

            And Is Maltitol Keto-Friendly?

      • +1

        Not sure where you’re reading they’re double the calories. The nutritional table puts then around 230 calories per bar.

    • +4

      How about not eating them

      You still have that choice.

      • the man was too stunned to speak

    • +6

      Sometimes I want to eat a protein bar that's tasty than 100g of cow. People have reasons to eat these and most of the time its not because its fun - let the people eat what they want.

      • +2

        let the people eat

        imo, people can eat whatever the hell they want. they don't need permissions from self-righteous food dictators.

    I find any protein bar that has the fake chocolate on the outside leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and gives me an upset stomach. I reckon quest and smart bars are the two best on the market. These muscle nation ones have very poor macros. 8 grams of fat for only 15.7g of protein is not good at all.

    • it's the *tol sweetners that's often the culprit.

      yet to find a bar that has 0 sweeteners/sugars. it would be great.

      • The smart bars are pretty good but they are never on sale. 5 bucks a bar is too much

        • yeah that one is good, but i would like it more if they didn't use corn.. but that's just my personal thing. 5 bucks is a lot of chicken breast i can get though.

    • +1

      When you take a look at the actual numbers - its 4g of protein difference for a snack or less than 1 egg. I will say that its 60~ cals more than a quest bar which can be placed elsewhere.

      At the end of the day it is very much up to the individual's tastes but the macros are still within acceptable parameters.

      Edit: Also price point - cant go wrong with $2.25

  • +1

    BSC bars also on sale at the same price, which are generally nicer IMO

  • +2

    These taste great and the texture is one of the best I've seen for protein bars, but its the maltitol that is the deal breaker for me here (does not agree with me, Im fine with sucralose though).

    Musashi range from Coles is also 50% off atm, the "Protein Crisp" ($2.25) bar range are my fave (sucralose) and the wafer bars ($2) are also great but a bit smaller so not as filling: https://www.coles.com.au/browse/pantry/health-foods-sports-n…

    • Catalogue special? Expires tonight, new catalogue tomorrow??

      • Yes, appears to be catalogue weekly special (both the muscle nation and the musashi stuff), expires with the new catalogue out tomorrow (wed 11/1)

      • +1

        Yep catalogue special, ends tonight. I grabbed a bunch of the musashi to try, mostly wafer and crunch. Tried a wafer this afternoon and just went back to Coles to grab some more haha. Have a few muscle nation bars already at home, they are nice too but taste a little more artificial than the musashi i tried.

    • i'm re-reading the ingredients, i'm confused. Musashi range has maltitol in them….

  • +1

    Cheers OP - i've been waiting for these to go back on sale.

    What about POWERSAUCE. UNLEASH THE POWER OF APPLES! A bushel of apples packed into each bar, plus a secret ingredient that unleashes the awesome power of apples.

      love the reference. :)

      but 2400 calories of kale (~2.5kg) is still 1000 calories too many for people trying to lose weight.
