  • i thought it was worth the post. probably not the best quality but i'll be picking one up

i bought a drill a while back from Aldi… I hadn't even used it for 5 minutes before I decided to return it because the drill chuck was wonky… i tried another in store and it was the same… really poor quality…

Also, put the PRICE in the title…

    • yeah, i bought one, drilled though one pine sleeper, and the gears where destroyed. whats the use of 18V if the drills not good enough to use it, or it just grinds out the internals…

It would be good if it was lithium battery

    • I was almost excited with this deal until I you pointed that out.

Not that I have even unboxed the corded jigsaw i bought from aldi over a year ago…but I have a task that needs it finally, so this weekend might be it's time to shine….or be proven worthless.

except that lithium batteries only last a few years, used or not.

These might last 20 years if used once a year :-)

The problem is that high-drain li-ion cost a lot more than nicads. You cannot just use standard laptop-style cells in a powertool.

Ok…now it's time to compare with apple to apple.

How does it compare with the brand called Ozito from Bunnings?

    • I have a Li-Ion Ozito drill and it is great, but honestly I wouldn't bother with non Li-Ion, they will never be charged when you want them and every time you use them you will get frustrated and probably end up upgrading anyway.

      • I find the opposite. My NiMH drill is always flat, much lion one is always ready to go

        • That's why I said "I wouldn't bother with non Li-Ion" ;)

ozito brand is great value.. you will not be disappointed!

    • Thanks guys I will stick with my ozito then

  • These look identical to one I bought in Kmart (just drill) about 5 years ago.

    crap battery.

    no real torque.

bought it to replace the almost brand new ryobi that was stolen in a burglary from my house.

    no comparision in quality.

My brother in law plumber was helping me around the house a few weeks ago with a $400 professional cordless drill that he bought 5 years ago. still going strong.

  • You never regret buying a good quality tool.

About the only thing going for these is that nicads have a relatively low self-discharge rate so there is some chance these will be charged when you go to use them

That said, cadmium is highly toxic, so shame on Aldi for selling these that will end up in land fill so soon.

  • I was tempted to pick one of these up. I purchased a hand sander from Aldi a few weeks back and it has been well worth it - coming in handy with all the renovating I've been doing.
