I think you may be better going with the 3 pack of 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Edges for $10 at Dick Smith:

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XM5160/sandisk-4gb-cruzer-ed…

Edges have writes speed that is almost 3 times faster.

    • 3 times faster? OK thanks will get one from DSE then

    • Drats…read that too late and have already purchased. :-(

    • I think they are the same thing inside.

      Nope.

      SanDisk Cruzer Edge USB Device
      4.02 MB/Sec
      18.21 MB/Sec

      http://usbspeed.nirsoft.net/

      • The Edge seems to perform better than the Blade

The writing speed for Edge is around 7mb/sec
        Blade is around 4mb/sec

not as good as the 8Gb for $3 delivered, deal earlier today…

    • this is triple pack tho. someone may need 3 seperate 4gb flash instead of 1.

      • what JV meant was, he bought a 'triple' pack of 8gb instead of these today.

        • +2

wow, you surely understand him well. unfortunately, it's already gone!

        • we mind meld

        • Is it the Verbatim 8Gb for $3(single pack)?

Although it's a good price, but I picked up a Sandisk Cruzer Edge 8Gb for $5 from DSE - which is a better flashdrive imo.

I never got why someon would need 3 tiny sticks instead of 1

        • +1

Like other's here, I use them like DVDs - put installation ISOs on it.

i remember the days when 128mb/256mb were $30/40…

    • +4

i still remember when 5.25" floppies cost that much young fella !!!

    • My first USB stick was a 128MB Kingston that cost $60.
      It's still going strong!

      • Yep, I remember when camera memory cards were about $1 per MB. Far out.

        • I paid $100 for extra 1MB (yes 1 megabyte) of RAM for my first PC.

        • I recall paying $280 for 4MB once upon a time :x

    Limit 3 per customer

Does that mean 1 triple pack or 3 triple packs ?

    • +2

I would think that it means 3 triple packs. If it had limit 1 per customer, i doubt it would you could purchase 1 usb in the pack of 3.

These cheap 4-8GB drives are fantastic for writing bootable ISOs for Windows or Linux distros.

    • but useless for OSX

      • -1

OSX is a terrible, bloated, dated OS anyway.

      • How is it useless for OSX? I've made bootable USB install disks for Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. All quite trivial but Lion is the easiest because the .dmg for writing to USB has already been created by Apple.

        • sorry, only read the "4" in onebutters post.

my comment should be inferred as "4gb thumb drivse are useless for OSX as 4 gb is too small for creating a install disk thumb drive".

        • it's only useless for apple's latest cat i think? IIRC i created a bootable version of lion using a 4GB flash drive.
