40% off Snow Helmets @ Ruroc

111

I don't think these go on sale that regularly, whether they're worth this price to you or not, I'll leave up to your discretion. RG1-DX (full face helmets) include the lower mouth covering part and goggles as well so seems like a decent price.

Discounts on some accessories as well, not the 40% of the helmets though.

  • Joker full face helmet advertises a bonus 'RIDING ESSENTIALS BUNDLE WORTH AUD310'.

Can't find any further details about this though. Otherwise would be interested.

  • Helmets are mandatory in NZ or at least everyone wears them, can’t remember which. I noticed that when I was there a few years ago on the slopes. Here it’s not really done much but I reckon it’s a really good idea. The amount of times I’ve hit the deck and my head was close or was minor. I need to get one but I’m not yet convinced of these prices or quality.

Almost everyone here in Australia wears a helmet to ski, sometimes Snowboarders are a bit looser and prefer a beanie but these days you see more and more snowboarders wearing helmets. Both of my sons board, one is a current APSI Instructor and he has always worn a helmet. I'm a member of a lodge at Mt Buller, I've skied all over the world and it is rare anywhere to see anybody skiing without a helmet these days, even if for no other reason than it keeps your head warm, holds your goggles and it's easy to attach your Gopro to it. I've been skiing long enough to remember when everyone skied in a beanie, these days the only time I ski in a beanie is when I'm overseas somewhere very cold (going to Revelstoke in Canada in 3 weeks' time) and the beanie is worn under the helmet. My Son has worked a couple of seasons as a Snowboard Instructor and it is policy that anybody working for the resort must wear a helmet.

Outside of people that are members of the local race club at their hill and actively race, it is rare to see anyone with a full-face helmet, most people wear the open face helmets. Even the race club kids normally wear an open face helmet unless they are actually racing. Common brands everywhere I've been are Giro, POC, Salomon, Smith, Anon etc. These days the tech from high end bike helmets is coming across and MIPS technology is common in the top end helmets (or the proprietary version such as POC's SPIN).

      • As an beginner-intermediate level snowboarder, I'd never not wear a helmet, personally. I've stacked hard a couple of times and my Aldi lid has saved me from serious concussion. If it's super-cold a balaclava goes under the helmet.

    • I'm from NZ and I've never seen that helmets are mandatory at any ski resorts I've been to.

Their motorcycle helmet is rubbish. If that's anything to judge their products' quality I'd say this is also rubbish.

Never owned one from this brand, but a couple of my mates have bought their more expensive motorcycle helmets and have all said they're terrible, the brand is nothing more than a gimmick with eye catching aesthetics for people who don't actually ride. The quality and safety of these helmets are questionable at best and downright terrible at worst, trading blows with knockoff fakes. I'd warn everybody to steer clear of this brand in general as I can't imagine their snow helmets to be any good either.

    • Can you elaborate on what makes/has made their safety questionable?

      • +1

For their motorcycle helmets I can, can't say anything with regards to their snowboard lids. The bike helmets my mates got were from a couple years back, their top of the line lids though. Supposedly ECE and DOT approved, however when we looked at the lids they never had those certifications. The padding inside was also the thinnest padding I had ever seen, coming from mostly higher end helmets it wasn't fair to compare them to a $1000 Japanese lid, but Ruroc helmets were all made in China and seemed on par with Aldi's $60 bike helmets, which I personally wouldn't trust to save my head in a potential crash. Lastly what you see is not what you will get, there's a couple of posts online and videos online showcasing the difference in the product you're buying and the product you're recieving. Now for the snowboarding I will mention that it looks they cost the same as other big name brands yet don't offer anything extra, such as MIPS which is pretty useful.
