ALDI Mobile Family Plan for Four People. The Best, Easy, and Hassle Free Path?

So I am looking to get four people on a mobile plan.

For $80/month you get:

  • 88Gb to share between four people.
  • Continuous data rollover with no limit?
  • 100Gb bonus for the first 6 months. Meaning that we get 1128 Gb in the first 6 months.
  • Unlimited calls and text within Australian and 20 international countries.
  • 100 Min calls to other international countries.

The international stuff is not really an important point for us. I am aware that you can get cheaper 12 month sims on woolworth, belong etc but those require buying a new sim every 12 month and porting through, which adds complications.

Any criticisms?

I put our 4 person family on this plan about 6 months ago. Works faultlessly. Great value. Uses Telstra network.

    • Can I ask if you have ever experienced any network issue or is it the full Telstra?

I need Telstra as I regularly visit several areas that can only get good Telstra coverage. I've never had any issues other than those that anyone directly with Telstra would have. It's full Telstra 4G (not 5G).

        • oh, do you know if 5g is coming?

          • @Specificagent1: Aldi offer Telstra 5G, but it's a premium price and you get less data. I wouldn't expect that to change in the immediate future.

It's not full Telstra, it's the Telstra Wholesale network, which is sometimes worse than Optus. Choose wisely.

        • It's full Telstra 4G (not 5G).

It is not full telstra 4G, you get wholesale telstra. Other than telstra, only other provider to get full telstra is Boost.

  • A cheaper option is Belong Mobile $15 / 5GB per month ($60 per month for 4) which has unlimited data banking & data gifting.

Old post here for more info. If you activate on the $45 plan you will have 400GB between the 4 accounts in the 1st month, then drop down to the $15 5GB plan.

This is much more flexible because you can change plans once per month if you're getting low on data & the data slows to 1Mbps if you use all your monthly allowance. So it's kind of unlimited data.

      @WatchNerd
All good until you need support.
Their support team based in India may as well be speaking Mandarin to me because I can't understand any of them. 😕
Also, the grammar in support email messages is appalling.

  • How much are the Aldi ones?

Pretty expensive TBH. 4 x catch connect prepaid plans would give each person 18gb and only cost $60 total.

  • Very expensive in the long run, if 2 of them are underage better cut them off tiktok and slap them with a $150 boost sim with 200gb data a year and start to learn about quota (aka financial) management.

  • I've been on the family plan for ~18 mths. Currently got > 300Gb banked data, even with 2 teenagers!
The only issue we have is that the service 'dies' during the automatic 4 weekly recharge window, ie at ~11:30pm for ~1 hour
